Factual error: In the PALOMINO scenes, Anthony Perkins wears a long lab coat. In most of the scenes, it hangs straight down; but in the low gravity aboard the ship it should be flattering about (that's why such loose garments are not worn by real-life cosmonauts; they would be a hindrance).
Factual error: When Wilbur tosses Lewis onto the time machine, he should have broken or hit the glass covering the back half. And he is on all fours when the machine becomes visible, which shows he would have had his face hitting the driver seat, yet he scrambles back into the passenger seat without a problem, then is seen barely leaning forward to talk to Wilbur in the future.
Factual error: When Fat Albert and Reggie are racing around the school track, there are palm trees visible over Fat Albert's right shoulder in the background. The problem with that is the movie supposedly takes place in Philadelphia, PA.
Factual error: When the family is beginning their trip, Bob has difficulty putting the RV in gear. We hear gears grinding despite the fact that the vehicle obviously has an automatic transmission (as evidenced by the column shifter). Automatic transmissions do not contain the same type of gearbox as manual transmissions, and it is impossible for an automatic to create a gear-grinding noise. (00:13:30)
Factual error: Although the movie is set in 1962, when Rodriguez jumps the fence of the junkyard, a red door from a '73-88 GM pickup can be seen in the background.
Factual error: Near the end of the movie, Raul is telling the hunter to not kill the tigers. Throughout the scene, you can hear a bird call. The bird is a grebe. Grebes do not live in the jungle- they are only found near large bodies of water.
Factual error: In the drugstore scene where Mary whispers in George's bad ear, there are several shots showing a Coca-Cola thermometer on the wall where George hangs his jacket. This particular scene was to have taken place in 1919, but this particular thermometer wasn't produced until 1939.
Factual error: When Bunty is the first to test the 'thrust' with the elastic, she is attached to a rope, which winds on for metres and metres, attached to a post at the other end. Why then, does it take a second or two for Bunty to be flung from the roller skate (or whatever she was travelling on) from the point we see the rope at full taughtness?
Factual error: When Santa is shown the miniscule print on the 'Santa Clause' card (that he is supposed to be/get married) the Elf holds an enormous lens in front of it, to make it easier for Santa to read the print. From the distance Santa is standing at, from his point of view the card should appear upside down.
Factual error: In the scene where Robert Duvall, Michael Caine and Haley Joel Osment are in a general store/coffee shop and the young punks come in, there is a Coca-Cola machine shown that has the "Wave" logo and a slogan that was used in the 1970s, not in the time period in which the movie took place (1950s/60s). Factual error: Hot Air Balloon's have no lateral control. They fly in the direction the wind is blowing, so it's rather impossible for two hot air balloon's very close to each other to be flying in different directions, let alone fly exactly to the desired locations.
Factual error: Sharks don't float when they're dead, they sink. While it did initially sink after being thrown out of the "casket", when the shot changes to Don Lino and Lenny consoling one another, you see him float back up. (00:33:50)
Factual error: Near the end of the song "One Of Us" when Kovu is exiled, the beisa oryx at the front of the animal chorus (the one shaking her head slowly) has incorrect facial markings for her species. The other beisa oryx in the background has the correct markings. When she sings "He is not one of us," solo, she has correct facial markings, but lacks the correct leg markings, which she had when her facial markings were incorrect.
Factual error: Orville says that he born on September 13, 1913, a Friday. That was actually a Saturday. (00:46:10)
Factual error: When Stephanie gets in the back of the zoo wagon, she discovers a zebra back there. Then all of a sudden the zebra toots and the flames go way out of the back of the trailer. In real life that wouldn't happen because the gas doesn't come out of your rear end fast enough to have that happen.
Factual error: John Smith's (voiced by Aussie, Mel Gibson) accent changes and also fades in and out during the course of the movie.
Factual error: After the VW van hits the tree stump, steam is coming from the front of the vehicle. Those vehicles have the engine in the rear. (00:05:53)
Factual error: During the second half of the film, set in Britain, Peter Mitchell is hiding away from a woman. She opens the door and asks "What are you doing in my closet?" She seems to talk with an upper class British accent, but she wouldn't use the American word "closet," but use either "wardrobe" or "cupboard."
Factual error: In the 19th Street Parade, it shows the Budweiser Clydesdales pulling their famous wagon. Even though this movie is set in 1897, Budweiser did not start using Clydesdales until April 1933 when the sons gave their father, August Busch Sr., the owner of Budweiser, a 6 team team of Clydesdales to celebrate the end of Prohibition.
Factual error: Stanley's parents say they can't afford a lawyer, and go to court without one. A lawyer should've been provided for them free of charge, as it's one of your rights, which he would've been read when he was arrested.
