Continuity mistake: When Dexter is killing Stan Beaudry, the drop of Beaudry's blood encompasses the width of the blood slide when the two pieces of the slide are pressed together, but then goes to being roughly half the size when the shot changes.
Make Your Own Kind of Music - S8-E9
Continuity mistake: Scene with Deb and Joey having lunch. Their water glasses switch between having ice and lemon wedges, to having no ice and a lemon slice floating at the top. (00:20:15)
Continuity mistake: When Doakes is carrying the packs of cocaine out of the cabin, the position of his arms and the cocaine varies wildly from shot to shot. Notable examples are that the cocaine goes from being arranged in neat, accurate stacks, to being haphazardly and irregularly stacked, and back to neat again. His grip on the cocaine also varies a lot; he starts out with straight arms, then suddenly has a 90-degree bend at the elbows, and back to straight again, all depending om camera angle. All of these changes happen too fast to have been natural, and Doakes is on camera the whole time.
Dirty Harry - S4-E5
Revealing mistake: After the intro at the start, it cuts to Dexter passing the fire engine, and the next long shot with a firefighter lifting the yellow tarp is a flipped shot; note the backwards licence plate, sign, etc.
Continuity mistake: When leaving his home at the end of the episode, he locks the door, then sees a big storm and walks back inside without ever unlocking the door. (00:49:30 - 00:49:52)
Continuity mistake: Dexter kills Jimenez with a chainsaw and is wearing an apron. But he gets blood all over his shirt. He leaves in a hurry after getting a call from Rita about her door being unlocked and him having the only other key. When he shows up, there is no blood on the same shirt he was wearing.
Factual error: When Maria is looking at Miguel's file, we see his Florida Driver's License. The expires date is wrong. FL driver's licenses expire on the person's birthday, not on the day the license was issued.
It's Alive! - S2-E1
Continuity mistake: When Batista is saying to Dexter "Did you even take my advice, Jose?" Doakes is not in the background. The next shot he is back in his spot. (00:10:00)
Continuity mistake: Dexter's hybrid SUV changes often. Sometimes it has satnav, sometimes it doesn't.
Continuity mistake: When Lumen stabs Dexter with his knife in the swamp, she hits right above his elbow which he grabs promptly. When the camera angle changes, he's now grabbing his upper arm that's bleeding from a different spot than where he was stabbed.
Character mistake: Searching for clues to identify a suspect, Masuka takes fingerprints from the interior of a truck. Back at the lab, he says he had two dozen prints and they all belong to the same person. Unless the prints are all of the same FINGER, there is no way he could know the prints were all from the same person without a suspect to compare them to. Masuka is a forensic expert and should know better. (00:15:40)
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Dexter is playing a video game on Miguel's office computer, Miguel is shown to close the game down. But in the next shot the game is visible on the screen before disappearing again in the shot afterwards. Additionally, the video game shown is Halo 3, which is only available on Xbox 360. When Miguel 'closes' the game, he is actually alt-tabbing from a "TWVidpla" window to "Plaindesktop.bmp," and a laptop battery indicator is visible. (00:12:55)
Continuity mistake: When Shanda is sat on Debra's desk, her handbag keeps moving from on her lap to at her side between shots.
Continuity mistake: When Dexter wakes up in front of Rita's house, he has a sweat patch on his shirt. When he gets into his car a minute later, it's gone.
Character mistake: When Dexter is looking up Travis Marshall on his laptop he mentions he lives at 1742 Vanderan Street, but on the licence details on screen the number reads 1026 Vanderan Street.
Character mistake: Louis Greene, Masuka's new intern, is asked to find the person who purchased Rudy's prosthetic hand. He is unable to do so; however, as a consolation, he says "I installed a modded-up Intel chip to overclock your CPU." You can overclock your CPU, but you don't need another chip to do so. (00:44:00)
Suggested correction: Only K series intel CPU's can be overclocked so a CPU upgrade is understandable if the previous one was not overclockable.
The Lion Sleeps Tonight - S3-E3
Continuity mistake: A man in a blue t-shirt and holding two beer cups is seen walking in front across Dexter and Miguel. In the next shot the same man is seen walking behind them. (00:15:40)
The Big One - S5-E12
Continuity mistake: When Dex gets the phone-call from the city archives he steals a red Pontiac Grand Am GT. When he crashes it at the camp it's a badly-painted orange Chevrolet. (00:21:00 - 00:28:00)
Suggested correction: The car is a red Pontiac but it is a Grand Prix, not a Grand Am.
Continuity mistake: Quinn brings Deb into the interrogation room and puts his coffee cup down about 6-8 inches from the end of the table. He then moves his chair and begins to talk to Deb without touching the coffee. In the next several shots the cup has moved to the middle of the desk, and the amount of steam rising from the cup keeps increasing as it sits there.
Seeing Red - S1-E10
Visible crew/equipment: When Dexter is walking towards the entrance of the Marina View Hotel to examine the crime scene, a boom mic is visible in the glass of the window on the right. (00:07:35)
