Remember the Monsters? - S8-E12

Plot hole: A couple episodes prior, Deputy Marshal Clayton stated that he shared Hannah's picture everywhere after receiving a tip that she may be in Miami. In the same episode, Hannah was spotted at a hospital and Clayton was called in about it. This should have only increased public awareness concerning her, but at the beginning of this episode, she somehow made it through airport security and all the way to her gate before spotting Elway and hiding from him in the ladies room.

Are You...? - S7-E1

Plot hole: It's out of character and against his code for Dexter to kill Viktor at the airport. Airports have security cameras everywhere (you can see one on the ceiling when he is wheeling Viktor into the unclaimed baggage storage), and using the unclaimed baggage storage as the kill room is equally unwise, because any airport employee could walk in at anytime and catch him red-handed. Dexter was caught murdering Travis Marshall by Deb just hours before, so if anything, he should be even more cautious.

Crocodile - S1-E2

Continuity mistake: When Dexter and Deb are celebrating her promotion, just before they toast and you look at them from the side Deb has her hands free, when the camera changes she has a crab leg in her hand, and when the camera changes again her hands are empty once more. (00:46:45)

Road Kill - S4-E8

Continuity mistake: Arthur and Dexter make a u-turn to avoid a DNA checkpoint. The view from outside the van shows no oncoming traffic, but the view from inside the van shows several cars waiting for them to complete the u-turn. (00:53:20)

The Angel of Death - S6-E5

Continuity mistake: Dexter browses the book shelf at Travis' house. The camera pans across, revealing a book titled "Apocalypse Bound" situated at the right on the shelf. When Dexter takes the book off the shelf, it is then shown as the fourth book from the left. When he puts it back, the empty gap where it used to be now appears to the far right on the shelf. Ricochet Rabbit - S6-E10

Continuity mistake: In Season 6, Episode 10, Dexter and Harry are in the motel room where Travis was staying (timestamp 1). Dexter decides to post on Gellar's blog (impersonating Gellar), and the screen on the computer shows the post date as Sunday, November 24, preceded by a Sunday, November 20 post. Aren't Sundays supposed to be a week apart? Then in episode 12 (timestamp 2), Travis is in Dexter's apartment and sees the poster for the Noah's Ark school play. The date posted for the play is Saturday, October 8, ie. in the past compared to the earlier episode. Plus If November 24 were on a Sunday, then October 8 should have been on a Tuesday. Born Free - S1-E12

Continuity mistake: When Rita is talking to Bob outside the house, she is carrying a box. A piece of tinsel keeps moving from hanging over the edge of the box, to being tucked inside.

Father Knows Best - S1-E9

Other mistake: Doaks says he saw the man's gun and chased him, lots of questions arise about what happened, but no-one mentions how a cop has no right to ask a person about a gun they have on them without probable cause. Doaks has no reason to even go after the guy.

Suggested correction: Florida is not an open carry state, so if the man was displaying a gun, the cop had probable cause to pursue and question. Even if the man had a permit to carry a weapon, per Florida law, that weapon must remain concealed. If the cop could see the gun, it was a violation of the law and the cop could not only question, but arrest him.

The British Invasion - S2-E12

Continuity mistake: In Paris, when Dexter grabs the knife off the table in the close-up, he's wearing the black glove on his right hand, but it cuts to the wide shot and both of Dexter's hands are bare; then in the next shot the black gloves reappear. It's rather odd that the actor was even filmed without wearing his gloves in the wide shot.

Hungry Man - S4-E9

Visible crew/equipment: When Dexter rings Arthur Mitchell's doorbell Sally opens the door, and in the next shot facing Dexter, the reflections of equipment and crew, such as one crew member standing on a ladder (appears orange), are visible on the door's glass at the left side of the screen. Monkey in a Box - S8-E11

Other mistake: When Deb is dropping Hannah off at the hotel, after she pulls up to the entrance, you can hear her car idling while she and Hannah have a brief chat. When she pulls away after Hannah exits, she starts her engine.

Season 8 generally

Deliberate mistake: Season eight begins roughly 6 months after the end of season seven. However, at the end of season seven, Harrison is around 3 years old, and season eight has aged him up at least two years.

Those Kinds of Things - S6-E1

[MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" playing.]
Former Classmate: Come on, Dexter. It's hammer time.
Dexter: [internally] I have no idea what hammer time is. Or how it differs from regular time.

About Last Night - S3-E9

Question: Dexter tests the blood on Miguel's shirt, to see if it's Freebo's. It looks like he's just using a DNA sequencer and the blood result comes back "bovine." Can a DNA sequencer differentiate which species the blood came from like that? Or perhaps he was using a different type of blood analysis machine? Is there an analysis machine that's capable of that? I thought the way to test if blood is human or not, "anti-human serum" is mixed with the blood to see if it will clot. So wouldn't the only way to tell it was bovine blood is to inject it with "anti-bovine serum"?

Bishop73

Answer: The short answer is yes, it could. but, it would have to be set up to analyze results to differentiate species. The sequencer will report the base pairs for any properly prepared sample, but interpreting the results is a software package. The software is available, but I would think it unlikely that an analysis package used in a forensics lab would have the capability to be so specific. More likely it would report "Non Human Sequences Found."
