CSI: NY

Vacation Getaway - S6-E23

Character mistake: In the scene in which Stella, Adam, and Hawkes are trying to get clues from the $1 bill left by Shane Casey at the bar, Stella notes that the Latin phrase "E Pluribus Unum" has had its word order changed and now reads "E Unum Pluribus". From this, she deduces that the meaning has changed from 'from many, one" to "from one, many'. However, Latin is a highly inflected language, in which the meaning of a word changes not from its position in a sentence, but from the ending that is attached to the word. Therefore, both 'e pluribus unum' and 'e unum pluribus' mean exactly the same thing.

Unfriendly Chat - S7-E2

Factual error: In the shot where Mac discovers Adam's details on the killer's desk, under Adam's name is what is supposed to be Adam's computer IP address. Although the first two octets 172.16 are a plausible address, within a private address range, the third octet is a little too high at 450 (the largest number in an octet is 255) and the fourth octet at over 1000, well.

To What End? - S7-E11

Factual error: During their investigation, the CSIs learn that their murder suspect is in the witness protection program, under FBI protection. WITSEC falls under the jurisdiction of the United States Marshals Service, not the FBI. And considering how many protected witnesses the Marshals Service relocates each year, it's doubtful they would be shorthanded enough to need help from another agency to locate a missing witness.

Nothing for Something - S7-E20

Continuity mistake: In the coffee shop, Don & Mac are having breakfast; Raymond arrives, looks down at Mac's belt & sees his gun & badge beside each other on his right hip. A minute later, after Raymond leaves, Mac exits the coffee shop looking for Raymond; his badge has jumped to the opposite side of his belt. (00:09:30)

Brooklyn Til I Die - S8-E12

Other mistake: Danny & Hawkes see a customer list on a shopkeeper's computer. Computer issue: Not only can she print the list and bypass a print option popup window with a single keystroke (implausible), but there are no icons/links on the page for software to do anything with that list. As well, the window scrollbar shows that there are nearly two pages of content on that screen, yet it appears to be a single complete page for the camera. Technical issue: The list contains 27 customer names - but one is repeated (Ryan Jackson). Later in the episode, they cross-reference that customer list (then printed on an opaque board in Mac's office, with that same duplicated name), against a company's employee list on Lindsey's pad computer. She was "able to notice one last name in common," yet there are three last names on the employee list also on the customer list, and one of those last names has two people listed - so that's four people who could have connections, yet only one was checked.

The Ripple Effect - S8-E13

Visible crew/equipment: When Delafont tells Mac, "None of it would have happened if he delivered what he promised," Jo figures out the connection between the cases. It then cuts to Jo with the Post-its, and at the start of the following wide shot, as she turns to walk over to the computer screen with suspects, a red T-mark is visible on the floor. It becomes visible again in a following shot. (00:35:30)

Flash Pop - S8-E14

Continuity mistake: After Danny assists Lindsay with the multiple footprints issue, when Danny gets the phone call from Don, his dark shirt's right sleeve is unbuttoned and loose, but it cuts to a wider shot and suddenly his dark shirt sleeve is buttoned up, covering his watch and the white shirt. Reignited - S9-E1

Factual error: Towards the end, Eva Mason blows up Leonard Brooks' flat in an attempt to kill him, by heating up gas from the stove using an uncovered light bulb. This wouldn't work as shown as the filament from the bulb would burn out before igniting the gas - and besides, a spark from the light switch would have ignited it first.

The Lady in the Lake - S9-E6

Other mistake: Mac is leaving a message for Christine. There is a close up of his cell phone. The keypad on the phone has the numbers in the wrong order. On every phone in history the first row of numbers is "123". On Mac's phone it is "789", like a computer keyboard.

The Lady in the Lake - S9-E6

Continuity mistake: The dead body of a girl is in the autopsy room. There is a closeup of her face on a TV monitor. Her hair is wet and tucked under her head and the v-shaped stitches on her torso are reddish in color. Next shot her hair is spread out and the stitches on her torso are blueish.

Chosen answer: Probably to broaden the scope of the show's plot and give the audience a chance to see the characters in a different setting, People act differently at home from the way they do at their workplace. By the ninth season, the characters would have become overly familiar and predictable. It gives the writers a chance to do something different with them.
