The X-Files

The Blessing Way (2) - S3-E1

Continuity mistake: When Mulder experiences his near-death trance state his body is lying, apparently lifeless, in a star spangled sky. As the camera tracks in on him the toes on his right foot twitch, just after Deep Throat begins to speak. The foliage covering his chest also changes position between shots. In the wide shot he is covered up to the armpits. But the first close up shows his chest is exposed. Then in later close ups it is covered again. (00:14:25)

Paper Clip (3) - S3-E2

In the previous episode she is listed as Samantha T. Mulder and her birth date is 1/22/64. Here we see her name as Samantha Ann Mulder and her birth date as 11/21/65. (00:20:40)

D.P.O. - S3-E3

The List - S3-E5

Continuity mistake: Later in the episode a man bangs on an air conditioner to try and stop it from making noise. In the first scene you can tell air is moving because the streamers are moving. After he bangs on the unit the streamers stop moving. The air conditioner is still on. (00:32:30)

Nisei (1) - S3-E9

Continuity mistake: When Senator Richard Matheson tells Mulder about the four Japanese Nationals had been murdered, he says that the murders had occurred several weeks ago. Syzygy - S3-E13

Continuity mistake: When Scully arrives to investigate the kid who was crushed by the bleachers the time stamp says 5:10AM. It seems strange that the investigation would start the next morning, unless the high school holds basketball practice at 3:00 in the morning. (00:16:35)

Paper Clip (3) - S3-E2

Visible crew/equipment: When Mulder and Scully enter the abandoned mine through a doorway, the viewer can see at right in the distance a number of people sitting on a wall, and one crouching in front of the wall with what looks like a dog. Show generally

Question: In a vast majority of the episodes, whenever Mulder and Scully investigate some mysterious or paranormal phenomenon, Mulder believes that some unknown force is responsible but Scully always has a rational explanation for what is happening. In other episodes, when Scully herself is caught up in something mysterious, she is the believer but Mulder is the skeptic. In those episodes, why would Mulder be skeptical about an unexplained phenomenon considering that he a was witness to his own sisters abduction and he saw many strange things that defied explanation while working for the F.B.I.?

Answer: As he stated many times throughout the series, Mulder needed Scully to be sober and skeptical. Whenever Scully's skepticism wavered and she started questioning her own rationality, Mulder would try to restore her sense of skepticism, because he needed her to be clear-thinking.

Charles Austin Miller

Answer: A variety of reasons. Just because Scully saw something unusual does not mean that it was. Mulder always needs concrete proof before he'll believe there's some otherworldly explanation for unexplained phenomena. He's too experienced to take a novice's explanation as fact. It is also a plot by device by the writers to switch the tables on the characters to make it more interesting and to let viewers see another side of their relationship.
