The X-Files

E.B.E. - S1-E17

Corrected entry: When Mulder and Scully pull away to follow the truck, if you watch in slow motion, you can see the reflection of a piece of equipment on the car. (00:31:05)

Correction: Per submission guidelines mistakes that require slow or stop motion are not considered valid mistakes.

Tempus Fugit (1) - S4-E17

Corrected entry: At the crash site of Flight 549, Scully says "The plane came in nearly vertical at 300 miles per hour." yet the fly-over view of the debris field shows it spread out over hundreds of feet. Unfortunately, on 9/11 we learned when large commercial aircraft crash straight into the ground, they leave massive, smoking holes. First responders at Flight 93 were not even aware they were looking at a crash site.

stevewaclo

Correction: The appearance and shape of a crash site depends on many factors, such as the exact angle of impact, density and composition of the ground, landform, airplane construction, amount of fuel, and more. Since we have virtually no information regarding these factors, the comparison between Flight 549 and Flight 93 seems to be far-fetched.

Correction: There's no mistake here. He's still technically an agent with the FBI.

Sein und Zeit (1) - S7-E10

Corrected entry: Up to this point in the series, Samantha has been shown by the Smoking Man to Fox. In this episode it appears Fox has completely forgotten the fact that he already saw his sister alive on more than one occasion and appears to back on the belief that she's missing and has accepted the fact that she is dead.

Correction: That wasn't actually his sister he saw on those previous occasions, but rather clones of her. The Smoking Man was only trying to trick Mulder into believing his sister was still alive in order to manipulate him.

Squeeze - S1-E3

Corrected entry: Tooms is sneaking into the room through a vent by unscrewing bolts. The problem is that the bolts should be attached directly to the wall and it would be impossible for Tooms to unscrew them. (00:02:00)

Chop Luftmysza

Correction: Not necessarily. The vent cover could just as likely be secured to a support plate, in which case, the screws would be inserted into holes in the plate that would leave The End of the screws exposed.

The Post-Modern Prometheus - S5-E5

Corrected entry: When The Great Mutato is lured out by a peanut butter sandwich, he puts down the sandwich when the agents give chase and we see he has taken one bite. When Scully picks up the sandwich, there are two bites taken out of it.

Correction: Yes, we saw him take one bite, and yes, Scully picks up the sandwich showing two bites were taken out of the sandwich; but what you fail to observe is that The Great Mutato has 2 mouths.

Squeeze - S1-E3

Corrected entry: At The End of the episode Scully handcuffs Tooms to the bathtub and Mulder says "he's not gonna get his quota this year" and Tooms seemingly accepts his capture. Given that he can stretch his whole body (and as specifically shown in the episode, his hands/fingers) couldn't Tooms have escaped from the handcuffs?

Jack Vaughan

Correction: He probably could have, but it's not something he can do instantly, and he also has a gun drawn on him. He likely decided it would be better to bide his time and escape later, which he eventually does.

Phaneron

I doubt that's what the filmmakers intended you to think though. It's a slip in the writing.

Jack Vaughan

And how do you know what the filmmakers were thinking? They obviously intended to use the character again since he appears later in the season. If you could slip out of handcuffs, but a federal agent was pointing their gun at you, would you risk death or try to escape at a later time?

Phaneron

Yeh, I'm not gonna pretend that this mistake was solid. Fair enough.

Jack Vaughan

Correction: This is not true. He never grabs his left arm and always grabs or favors his right arm.

Bishop73

Correction: Already submitted and corrected. He can't slip out of tight spaces instantly, and when he is arrested, he is surrounded by people with guns who could shoot him on the spot.

Herrenvolk (2) - S4-E1

Corrected entry: After Mulder retrieves the metal spike right after stabbing the alien bounty hunter, he chases Jeremiah, who has boarded a boat. The shot cuts back soon after to the bounty hunter's body and the spike can still be seen in his neck.

Correction: The metal spike Mulder picks up belongs to the alien bounty hunter. You see him holding it before Mulder stabs him.

Herrenvolk (2) - S4-E1

Corrected entry: When Mulder stabs the alien bounty hunter and the body rolls down the hill, we see the metal spike in the back of his neck, surrounded by his green acid blood. Yet when Mulder climbs down after it, it is suddenly lying on the ground away from the body.

Correction: The metal spike he picks up belongs to the alien bounty hunter. You see him holding it before Mulder stabs him.

Correction: Mulder and Scully are FBI partners in the middle of an investigation. He can't wait around while his partner tends to Belt so he obviously needs a doctor OTHER than Scully.

Damian Torres

Rain King - S6-E8

Corrected entry: In the scene where Daryl Mootz pulls up in his SUV for the rain-making event, there is a shot of the SUV with a front Kansas license plate. Cars in Kansas only have rear license plates. (00:12:55)

Correction: Cars in Kansas do have front license plates if they are personalized just like Daryl Mootz's RAINKING license plate.

Pilot - S1-E1

Corrected entry: When Mulder, Scully and the other police officers are digging Ray Soames's grave, one strap of the coffin breaks and the coffin falls and starts to roll. When it hits a tombstone and opens, you can see there's a normal size body in the coffin. When they look into the coffin, there's this small alien body. (00:13:35)

sam68

Correction: When the coffin opens, it is impossible to notice what sort of body is located in the coffin without using slow motion, which invalidates the mistake.

Chop Luftmysza

Zero Sum - S4-E21

Corrected entry: Misty finds the cabin Jane was in open, however when Jane went to the toilet, she locked the cabin. Because of the bees Jane could not have unlocked the doors. (00:02:55)

Chop Luftmysza

Correction: In fact, Jane managed to open the cabin's door even though she was attacked by bees.

Hollywood A.D. - S7-E19

Corrected entry: In this episode, Mulder and Scully are watching a film about them that was shot sixteen months ago. But that would have been sometime in late 1998, when Mulder and Scully were not on the X-Files. But yet they're in Skinner's office at The Beginning. If they had shot the film in consistency with the current timeline, (2000) then the film would have been shown in late 2001. But in that time, Mulder was missing and Scully had a newborn. if anything, she would have seen the movie with Doggett. Somebody didn't plan ahead... (00:04:05)

Correction: The X-Files were closed at The End of season 5, but Mulder and Scully were still working under A.D. Skinner in the first X-Files movie, which takes place in the summer of 1998. It wasn't until The Beginning of season 6 that they were reassigned to A.D. Kersh. Plus, the case they were working on in this episode wasn't officially an X-File, it was a church bombing, so there's no reason they couldn't have been working on a domestic terrorism case under Skinner. There's no error in the timeline here.

Anasazi (1) - S2-E25

Corrected entry: After Mulder has his tantrum and goes to see Skinner, he does not have or reach for his suit coat, but when he walks up to Skinner, he has it on. (00:11:20)

Correction: Not necessarily. When leaving his office, Mulder is not heading directly toward the doors. It seems as firstly he goes up to the hanger to take a suit coat, and only then he leaves. He probably grabs his coat and carries it with his right hand, which is not presented in this shot.

Chop Luftmysza

Pilot - S1-E1

Corrected entry: When we first see Scully, going into the office at The Beginning of the episode, we see when she is on her way to the office and when she enters it she is wearing her badge, yet when the shot changes, it is no longer on her, then when she comes out she is wearing it again. (00:02:20 - 00:04:35)

Chaz1003

Correction: That's because she is never "wearing" her ID badge. It is clipped to the strap of her purse, not her jacket. You can see this in several shots and you see the badge move with the strap as opposed to moving with the jacket. When she removes the purse the badge comes off too.

Bishop73

Pilot - S1-E1

Corrected entry: Mulder takes out spray paint from the trunk. The problem is that the car isn't his but it was rented. It’s not plausible that all the cars in the rent-a-car company were equipped with spray paint. It is also doubtful that Mulder anticipated the paint use and bought it on purpose. (00:10:40)

Chop Luftmysza

Correction: He does expect it from other similar abduction cases. I believe he takes the spray paint from his own pack and not from a rental car supply kit.

Ice - S1-E8

Corrected entry: The worm is supposed to increase production of a violent hormone, making The Host incredibly violent and unable to control it. Yet the infected member of the group manages to hide it perfectly between making their first kill and being discovered by the rest.

Correction: It's explained that The Host becomes violent because of the parasitic worm attacking the hypothalamus gland of the brain. When the infected person is finally discovered, the worm is shown to be making its way back towards their brain, indicating that the worm makes its way around The Host's body, and that The Host can behave normally if the worm is not near the brain.

Paper Clip (3) - S3-E2

Visible crew/equipment: When Mulder and Scully enter the abandoned mine through a doorway, the viewer can see at right in the distance a number of people sitting on a wall, and one crouching in front of the wall with what looks like a dog. They are sitting still, but there is still movement there. (00:16:00)

Question: In a vast majority of the episodes, whenever Mulder and Scully investigate some mysterious or paranormal phenomenon, Mulder believes that some unknown force is responsible but Scully always has a rational explanation for what is happening. In other episodes, when Scully herself is caught up in something mysterious, she is the believer but Mulder is the skeptic. In those episodes, why would Mulder be skeptical about an unexplained phenomenon considering that he a was witness to his own sisters abduction and he saw many strange things that defied explanation while working for the F.B.I.?

Answer: As he stated many times throughout the series, Mulder needed Scully to be sober and skeptical. Whenever Scully's skepticism wavered and she started questioning her own rationality, Mulder would try to restore her sense of skepticism, because he needed her to be clear-thinking.

Charles Austin Miller

Answer: A variety of reasons. Just because Scully saw something unusual does not mean that it was. Mulder always needs concrete proof before he'll believe there's some otherworldly explanation for unexplained phenomena. He's too experienced to take a novice's explanation as fact. It is also a plot by device by the writers to switch the tables on the characters to make it more interesting and to let viewers see another side of their relationship.
