The X-Files

The Walk - S3-E7

Corrected entry: When Lt. Col. Stans tries to kill himself by submerging himself in boiling water using the hydrotherapy tub, he sets the gauge to 200 (where it stays). The water boils as planned, but water doesn't boil that low. This takes place in Maryland; assuming an elevation of 3,360 feet, water shouldn't boil until 206°. (00:01:25)

Correction: That's not the water boiling, it's the massaging jets of the hydrotherapy tub (like a Jacuzzi or hot tub).

Bishop73

Small Potatoes - S4-E20

Corrected entry: Eddie's ability to shape-shift is attributed to every muscle in his body being striated. While that's a reasonable explanation as to how he can change his face, it doesn't explain how he is able to change his hair. He has short hair and is balding, but when he mimics Mulder, he is able to match Mulder's longer and thicker full head of hair.

Phaneron Premium member

Correction: When "Mulder" Eddie drops by to Scully's apartment, she says, "We discovered an additional anomaly relating to the hair follicles in his scalp." That would account for the change in hairstyle.

Zero Sum - S4-E21

Corrected entry: Misty finds the cabin Jane was in open, however when Jane went to the toilet, she locked the cabin. Because of the bees Jane could not have unlocked the doors. (00:02:55)

Chop Luftmysza

Correction: In fact, Jane managed to open the cabin's door even though she was attacked by bees.

Musings of a Cigarette-Smoking Man - S4-E7

Corrected entry: The CSM wants to publish his book. It is quite odd that he has to submit it to some publishing houses and suffers from being ridiculed. Using his practically infinite power he could publish or just order to publish the story whenever he pleases. (00:23:10)

Chop Luftmysza

Correction: CSM's writing means a great deal to him, and while he must certainly be aware that he has the power to have his stories published, it's highly likely that like many creatives, he simply wants them to be wanted on their own merit.

Purple_Girl

The Host - S2-E2

Corrected entry: Surprisingly, it takes the well-educated Scully quite a long time to realize that the tattoo on the victim's forearm is in Cyrillic lettering. (00:24:00)

Chop Luftmysza

Correction: Cyrillic bears similarities to Greek, Slavic, Russian, and some Middle-Eastern lettering. Considering the tattoo was on the decomposing skin of a body that had been submerged in water, it's reasonable to assume it would be difficult for anyone to recognise. Also, nothing is ever mentioned about Scully's education to suggest she should have any particular knowledge about multi-cultural writing styles, the most we know is that she had a decent grasp of German.

Tempus Fugit (1) - S4-E17

Corrected entry: At the crash site of Flight 549, Scully says "The plane came in nearly vertical at 300 miles per hour." yet the fly-over view of the debris field shows it spread out over hundreds of feet. Unfortunately, on 9/11 we learned when large commercial aircraft crash straight into the ground, they leave massive, smoking holes. First responders at Flight 93 were not even aware they were looking at a crash site.

stevewaclo Premium member

Correction: The appearance and shape of a crash site depends on many factors, such as the exact angle of impact, density and composition of the ground, landform, airplane construction, amount of fuel, and more. Since we have virtually no information regarding these factors, the comparison between Flight 549 and Flight 93 seems to be far-fetched.

Pilot - S1-E1

Corrected entry: When Mulder, Scully and the other police officers are digging Ray Soames's grave, one strap of the coffin breaks and the coffin falls and starts to roll. When it hits a tombstone and opens, you can see there's a normal size body in the coffin. When they look into the coffin, there's this small alien body. (00:13:35)

sam68

Correction: When the coffin opens, it is impossible to notice what sort of body is located in the coffin. Moreover, the rules says that "If a mistake can only be noticed using slow motion or pause, it won't be accepted."

Die Hand die Verletzt - S2-E14

Corrected entry: Scully does a internet search for Miss Paddock's prior teaching experience and this search claims "Substitute; Grossmont Union High School Dist. 1998 - 1994." I suppose it should have been 1988 - 1994, or 1994 - 1998.

Correction: The text reads 1990-1994, not 1998. The font used places a diagonal line in the 0, to distinguish it from an O. You can see the same style 0 in the next line where it says 1980.

Bishop73

Drive - S6-E2

Corrected entry: Watch the odometer in Mulder's car. When we first get a shot of it the counter is at about 2092, the when he runs out of gas it is at 2043. (00:16:00 - 00:28:55)

Correction: The digit under the indicator is not 0 and the number is not 2043. It is probably 2, 7 or 9. It is especially clear when compared to the shape of other 0s on the odometer.

Hollywood A.D. - S7-E19

Corrected entry: After Mulder storms from the cinema at the end, Scully finds him sitting in the messy, deserted graveyard movie set. However, since the movie was premiering, which happens months after filming is completed, it makes no sense that the set would appear as if it was finished with that same day or that week.

Purple_Girl

Correction: If the studio wanted to reuse the set for another movie, which happens all the time in real life, then they would keep the set up to save on production costs rather than deconstructing it and having to rebuild it.

Hollywood A.D. - S7-E19

Corrected entry: In this episode, Mulder and Scully are watching a film about them that was shot sixteen months ago. But that would have been sometime in late 1998, when Mulder and Scully were not on the X-Files. But yet they're in Skinner's office at the beginning. If they had shot the film in consistency with the current timeline, (2000) then the film would have been shown in late 2001. But in that time, Mulder was missing and Scully had a newborn. if anything, she would have seen the movie with Doggett. Somebody didn't plan ahead... (00:04:05)

Correction: The X-Files were closed at the end of season 5, but Mulder and Scully were still working under A.D. Skinner in the first X-Files movie, which takes place in the summer of 1998. It wasn't until the beginning of season 6 that they were reassigned to A.D. Kersh. Plus, the case they were working on in this episode wasn't officially an X-File, it was a church bombing, so there's no reason they couldn't have been working on a domestic terrorism case under Skinner. There's no error in the timeline here.

Sein und Zeit (1) - S7-E10

Corrected entry: Up to this point in the series, Samantha has been shown by the Smoking Man to Fox. In this episode it appears Fox has completely forgotten the fact that he already saw his sister alive on more than one occasion and appears to back on the belief that she's missing and has accepted the fact that she is dead.

Correction: That wasn't actually his sister he saw on those previous occasions, but rather clones of her. The Smoking Man was only trying to trick Mulder into believing his sister was still alive in order to manipulate him.

Anasazi (1) - S2-E25

Corrected entry: After Mulder has his tantrum and goes to see Skinner, he does not have or reach for his suit coat, but when he walks up to Skinner, he has it on. (00:11:20)

Correction: Not necessarily. When leaving his office, Mulder is not heading directly toward the doors. It seems as firstly he goes up to the hanger to take a suit coat, and only then he leaves. He probably grabs his coat and carries it with his right hand, which is not presented in this shot.

Beyond the Sea - S1-E13

Corrected entry: When running, Lucas Henry grabs his left arm instead of the right one in which he was shot. (00:38:15)

Chop Luftmysza

Correction: This is not true. He never grabs his left arm and always grabs or favors his right arm.

Bishop73

Pilot - S1-E1

Corrected entry: When we first see Scully, going into the office at the beginning of the episode, we see when she is on her way to the office and when she enters it she is wearing her badge, yet when the shot changes, it is no longer on her, then when she comes out she is wearing it again. (00:02:20 - 00:04:35)

Chaz1003

Correction: That's because she is never "wearing" her ID badge. It is clipped to the strap of her purse, not her jacket. You can see this in several shots and you see the badge move with the strap as opposed to moving with the jacket. When she removes the purse the badge comes off too.

Bishop73

Squeeze - S1-E3

Corrected entry: Tooms is sneaking into the room through a vent by unscrewing bolts. The problem is that the bolts should be attached directly to the wall and it would be impossible for Tooms to unscrew them. (00:02:00)

Chop Luftmysza

Correction: Not necessarily. The vent cover could just as likely be secured to a support plate, in which case, the screws would be inserted into holes in the plate that would leave the end of the screws exposed.

Pilot - S1-E1

Corrected entry: Mulder takes out spray paint from the trunk. The problem is that the car isn't his but it was rented. It’s not plausible that all the cars in the rent-a-car company were equipped with spray paint. It is also doubtful that Mulder anticipated the paint use and bought it on purpose. (00:10:40)

Chop Luftmysza

Correction: He does expect it from other similar abduction cases. I believe he takes the spray paint from his own pack and not from a rental car supply kit.

Ice - S1-E8

Corrected entry: The worm is supposed to increase production of a violent hormone, making the host incredibly violent and unable to control it. Yet the infected member of the group manages to hide it perfectly between making their first kill and being discovered by the rest.

Correction: It's explained that the host becomes violent because of the parasitic worm attacking the hypothalamus gland of the brain. When the infected person is finally discovered, the worm is shown to be making its way back towards their brain, indicating that the worm makes its way around the host's body, and that the host can behave normally if the worm is not near the brain.

Wetwired - S3-E23

Corrected entry: In this episode, Mulder says that he's red/green colorblind. Colorblind people cannot be F.B.I. agents. (00:28:10)

Correction: Agent Mulder's brief mention of his condition reveals nothing of its severity. Colourblind people can become FBI agents if they can pass the Farnsworth D15 test.

Bishop73

One Son (2) - S6-E12

Corrected entry: At the end of the season 1 finale, The Erlenmeyer Flask, CSM is seen placing the alien embryo (pickled in a jar) in a box somewhere deep in the Pentagon's storage facility - yet in season 6's One Son, the embryo is back in the flask, in the freezing solution where Scully found it in the first place. (00:30:35)

Chimera Premium member

Correction: The Smoking Man, who put the embryo in the pentagon's vast storage room in season 1, has direct access to the pentagon at all times and is extremely high up in the ranks of the conspirators, it's more than plausible that he could have taken the embryo back from storage and returned it to the freezing containment if it was needed for further tissue/testing.

Purple_Girl

Bad Blood - S5-E12

Visible crew/equipment: I don't know if this is visible in all formats, but on the newest UK release on DVD, watching in widescreen, it's amazingly obvious. When Mulder recovers from the vampire attack, he gets up from the floor and breaks up a chair to make a stake. There is a shot of his feet as he smashes the legs off and bends to pick up a piece. In the bottom left hand corner of the screen, you can see a crew member's hand carefully and quickly placing a piece of wood on top of the pile for Mulder to pick up.

Trivia: Scully's father and the man Mulder thought was his father were both named William. Mulder's actual father, Cancer Man, was played by William B Davis. Scully and Mulder's son was also named William.
