Factual error: The Doctor sets the atmosphere on fire, but only the upper part burns. The atmosphere extends from the Earth's surface (where it is densest) upwards, and so the flames would come right down to the ground, burning everyone to death. Of course that wouldn't work with the plot, so artistic licence has been applied.

The Last Of The Red Hat Mamas - S17-E7

Factual error: Milhouse says he speaks fluent Italian, but his Italian is full of basic grammatical errors. He says that "insegnante" means "masculine teacher" when the same word is used for a male or female teacher. There are errors in Lisa's Italian course too ("barca piccola" instead of "piccola barca"). Despite Lisa's understandable mistakes, as she is a learner, Milhouse never corrects her (there is no such word as "idioto"). Even Milhouse's grandmother, who is Italian, makes many grammatical mistakes.

Factual error: Barbara takes an ancient document out of a filing cabinet. One of the words in its title is HIFTORIE, for "history." The old-fashioned way of writing the letter "s" was the so-called long s (ſ), not the letter "f", and this was only ever used as a lowercase letter. So the word would have been written as HISTORIE.

Factual error: Characters sometimes talk to one another on video calls, and a character (A) often watches these from an angle rather than face on, allowing the viewer to see both character A and the character on the call (B). When this happens, character B is shown turned a little to one side, to give the impression that they are looking directly at character A (as they would be if they were present in the same room). In reality, this means that character B is looking off to one side of their monitor and not at the image of character A, something that it makes no sense to do. No matter what angle the laptop is shown from, provided character B is visible, they should appear to be facing the viewer.

The Impossible Planet (1) - S2-E11

Factual error: The graphics depicting the black hole show matter falling directly towards the centre of it. This would only happen if all the matter happened to be heading in that direction already. In reality, matter approaching the black hole at any other angle would swirl around the event horizon, like water going down a plughole.

Factual error: A character is referred to in German as a she-devil, which is given as "sie teufel." This is German for the two words "she" and "devil" but not for the word "she-devil", which is "Weibsteufel." Or just "Teufelin." (00:32:15 - 00:33:20)

Factual error: A shipping container has a sign on it written in French, part of which reads "Attente cinq minutes...", which is intended to mean "Wait five minutes..." "Attente" is the noun "wait", not the verb, so the sign should instead read "Attendez cinq minutes..." Another sign reads "2.5m", but this should be "2,5m" as French uses a comma as a decimal point. Factual error: Owen resuscitates Tommy using a defibrillator. The heart monitor shows a flat line, indicating Tommy's heart is not beating. A defibrillator has no effect in this situation. This is a widespread error in many films and TV shows.

Triangle at Rhodes - S1-E6

Factual error: Throughout the episode there are sections of dialogue in Greek, which are deliberately left untranslated. The subtitles frequently transcribe the Greek inaccurately. For example, the Greek girl who assists Poirot and Lyall in finding out about the poison says "Elate!" to them, which means "Come!" said to more than one person, but this is transcribed in the subtitles as "Ella!", the form used to a single person. Later on, the girl's grandmother says "Ohi enas Anglos anthras. Mia Anglitha yineka. San esena" ("Not an Englishman. An Englishwoman. Like you"), but this is given in the subtitles as "Ohi enas Anglos anthras, che yenika. Son ethena", which doesn't make sense. (00:40:45)

Factual error: Poirot and Lyall speak to people in the street of Rhodes, looking for someone who can tell them about the poison. The people they speak to all shake their heads, but Greeks do not do this to say "no" - they tip their heads back. (00:39:40)
