Continuity mistake: As they leave Colonel Kilgore on the beach at Vin Drin Dop the boat sails off to the left of the screen towards the bridge that was destroyed earlier in the attack. If you look at the far left of the screen there's a small Vietnamese temple with no fire anywhere near it. As they pass closer to the temple a large fire is now burning in front of it.
Factual error: Captain Willard narrates to himself, "I am beyond their timid lying, morality, and so I am beyond caring" as we see a downed helicopter burning in a tree. The main rotors are detached and would not be sitting on top of the helicopter had it actually crashed and not just been placed there. In an actual helicopter crash the rotors fly off.
Continuity mistake: Captain Willard reads on uninterrupted from "Commitment and Counterinsurgency" by Colonel Kurtz who says in his report, "if they were committed this war can be won with a fourth of our present force". The weather changes from not raining to raining, back to not raining again between shots.
Continuity mistake: After speaking to Bill Graham in the tent Captain Willard comes back and tells the guys, "I negotiated two barrels of fuel for a couple of hours with the bunnies". As he walks back to the boat the hills in the distance can't be seen because of the rain but in the next shot when Chief Phillips comes over to talk to him the hills can be seen.
