Mission: Impossible (1996)
Answer: Perhaps he planned to kill her all along. He was planning to escape via the helicopter but how was she to escape?
She was never supposed to go to the baggage area. She would have just got off the train like a normal person.

Blast from the Past (1999)
Question: When the transvestite is propositioning Calvin, he says "I'll even throw in some lawn furniture." Later, when Calvin tells his wife about the encounter, he says "they offer lawn furniture as a come on!" I have been puzzled by what they were referring to for years! Urban Dictionary has been no help at all! Does anyone know what s/he was referring to?
Chosen answer: I think this is a reference to two things: home shopping networks (which often offer free inducements such as lawn furniture or steak knives to shoppers who "call now" or "act now"; it's also probably a reference to Calvin's age - elderly people liking lawn furniture.
Years ago, there were TV commercials of used car salesman that would throw in lawn furniture or other desired household items when you buy a car from them. Pretty sure that is the reference here.
Answer: He is talking about what he thinks is the sub race of people created by the atomic blast. The "new human race" that he was telling his wife about.

La Confidential (1997)
Question: Ed Exley recommends that the LAPD shift the blame for Bloody Christmas to men whose pensions are secured, and he names Bud White and Richard Stensland as two such men. But when Dudley Smith later tells Bud White that Stensland has been forced to retire, White says "A year from his pension!" So was Stensland entitled to a pension or not?
Answer: Exley is suggesting two things: to shift some blame to three officers with secured pensions and forcing them to retire; when he refers to White and Stensland though, he is saying "someone has to swing" and that they should be charged, tried and imprisoned - so Stensland is not entitled to a pension.

Question: How did Holmes know where M was, so he could have found him and taken him away? And how did Holmes transport M on his own? Was M unconscious, or alert and thus went where Holmes told him to go, or he'd kill him? But M wouldn't do that; he doesn't mind dying.
Chosen answer: M broke into the brownstone and left a note. Holmes deduced he was staying at a high-class hotel from the soap scent on the note, and gave a picture from a hidden camera to his "irregulars" on the street to stake out hotels. One of them saw him, so Holmes followed him to his next intended victim and knocked him unconscious with a baton.

Atonement (2007)
Question: How does Briony know when and especially how Robbie died, because he was obviously left behind in the abandoned factory on the beach and never came "home."
Answer: Though not seen in the movie, Corporal Nettle would have taken one of Robbie's dog tags with him and submitted it along with a report of Robbie's final observed disposition and location, upon Nettle's return to England-as military personnel are trained to do. The Red Cross or other wartime aid organization would have recovered Robbie's remains along with his remaining ID tag, and eventually repatriated them.as these aid organizations did for all sides of the conflict. Military and aid organization info on Robbie's disposition, etc. would have been provided to Robbie's family, and kept within wartime casualty records, either of which Briony might gain access.

General questions
There was a movie about a small boy and a girl who had evil powers. What really made them terrifying is that they had black fingernails and whenever they touched somebody, that person would be burned alive. This is not Children of the Damned or the sequel, and it is not Children of the Corn.

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
Question: I've been told that when Obi-Wan and Anakin walk into the bar and Obi-Wan says the line "Anakin, why do I get the feeling that you're going to be the death of me?", Ewan McGregor asked George Lucas if he could say that line so the fans would get the Episode 4 reference or something like that, and also that he asked Lucas if he could do the Jedi mind trick which he demonstrates on the 'death sticks' seller. Could anyone confirm if either of these statements are true, because I don't want to submit them as trivia if they're nothing but rumours.
Chosen answer: I think it's unlikely those lines and the mind trick were suggested by Ewan McGregor, as they are present in the second draft of the script, which was written before principal photography began in June 2000, which means they weren't ad-libbed or added as revisions to the final shooting script. There is no mention of this occurring on the DVD commentary either.

Ghost (1990)
Question: When Sam meets the subway ghost, he is told that the subway ghost got pushed onto the tracks. As Sam leaves, he stops in front of a subway billboard for some kind of huge company. After he looks at it, he turns to where the subway ghost was with a shocked look on his face. What was on the billboard that made Sam react that way?
Answer: The poster is an ad for Market Security Bank & Trust, the bank that Sam (and Carl, who had him killed) worked for. Seeing the poster gave Sam an idea how to use Oda Mae and his knowledge of the bank to expose Carl's criminal activities.
But how is the subway ghost connected to the billboard?
The subway ghost has nothing to do with the poster.

General questions
I am trying to figure out the title of a movie about two friends in prison... I know one was an African American but not sure of the other. The movie starts out with them in the prison yard and then starts showing flashbacks of how they got there. The movie switches back and forth between scenes of them in their youth and then of them older and their trials of dealing with prison life.
Chosen answer: Sounds like "Life" (1999), starring Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence.

General questions
I saw a trailer a few years ago for a movie that looked interesting but I've forgotten the title. All I remember is that it was vaguely steampunky and/or futuristic and a sniper seemed to play an important part (who maybe wore a mask/goggles?). Fairly sure it was live action - sorry it's so vague, but maybe it'll ring a bell for someone.

15 years ago I watched a movie. It was funny and little bit of a survival movie. I don't know the name but some scenes I remember. A man and woman go for a journey somewhere in a private airplane. Their airplane got stuck in the trees. When the fuelling of the plane was finished then the man used his wine as the fuel. When the man was hungry, he stole an ostrich's egg and the ostrich ran toward him. A Mongoose bit the wheel of the airplane and punctured it.
Answer: Definitely "The Gods Must Be Crazy II" (1980).

Speed (1994)
Question: What did Harry mean when he said to Jack "And I got shot... Another few inches and they would have given the medal to my wife." I still can't make complete sense of that line.
Chosen answer: Jack shot Harry in the upper leg, and Harry is presumably referring to the proximity of the femoral artery, a large and vital blood vessel in the thigh. If Jack's shot had hit him there, he would almost certainly have died within minutes, and they would have to give the bravery medal to his widow.

The Sand Pebbles (1966)
Question: Why was the movie called "The Sand Pebbles?
Question: Can someone please explain why the uruk hai are being born through those mud sacs and why?
Answer: There is some contention about the origin of the orcs and the Uruk-hai, and it seems Tolkien was fairly vague on these points (are orcs corrupted elves, are the uruks half-orc/half-men?). Several web sources say that on the DVD commentary for Fellowship, Peter Jackson says that the Uruk-hai emerging from mud sacs was based on an early Tolkien line that orcs "worm their way out of the ground like maggots" - not sure where or when he said this, but it seems to be a movie-only notion.

Chosen answer: He doesn't trust her. He knows Ethan is in love with Claire, and suspects she is in love with him. Claire does not deny this, and begs him not to kill Ethan, which confirms his suspicion.
