Jumper (2008)

Question: What game is Griffin playing when David goes to his 'lair' the second time? Just before David teleports there, Griffin is talking to a dead Paladin's body about the game he's playing and new moves. And then David sits in front of the TV to get his attention. You can't see the screen, but you can hear the game and it sounds like something that would be distinctive. What game is it?

Quantom X

Chosen answer: You see the screen for a second before David appears - the game Griffin is playing is Halo: Combat Evolved (the motion sensor HUD in the bottom left corner is quite distinctive).

Babel (2006)

Question: At the hospital, Brad Pitt calls home and speaks to the caretaker. I thought she was already deported to Mexico. He tells her someone is coming to relieve her and she will be free to go to the wedding. I don't get the timeline here.

Answer: The scenes are out of chronological order - Richard called Rachel, Susan's sister, to tell her Susan has been shot. He calls Amelia, the nanny, who already knows about the shooting from Rachel, and tells her that Rachel will find someone to mind the kids. He rings later and tells her to cancel the wedding as they are still in Morocco and Rachel could not find a replacement. All this takes place before she takes the kids to Mexico and is deported.

Sierra1

So did Amelia go Mexico or was that just a dream, because Brad never finds out about that and the kids missing along with Amelia?

Everything happens, but in different times. When you see Brad Pitt on the phone, that is the phone call the nanny was receiving in the beginning of the movie, before she got ready for the wedding.

Answer: At the start there are 2 phone calls from Richard to Amelia (the nanny). The first call is him saying Rachel is on her way to relieve her, Susan is in surgery and please don't tell the kids what's happened. This is the same call from the very end of the movie where he is in the hospital and Susan is in surgery. Not long after we see the first call, we see Amelia receive a second phone call from Richard, saying "Rachel can't get there, we need you to stay the night." Amelia protests saying "but it's my sons wedding" and Richard says "I will pay for him to have another wedding, we are relying on you we need you to stay" and hangs up. This view of Amelia's timeline from the start of the film, before she takes the kids to Mexico and everything unfolds for her in the desert, is happening AFTER everything we see from Richard's perspective. Whilst it jumps around between characters, it is clear that each character's timeline is chronological to itself, and does ACTUALLY happen.

Answer: At the end Pitt is talking on the phone to his kids, which you saw from the kids' perspective at the start of the movie, then after that the nanny takes them to the wedding. So the wedding and aftermath is happening while Pitt and wife are in hospital in Morocco. Hope it helps.

I still don't understand if Amelia was deported or not. Like someone already said, Brad told her someone would be there soon.

Yes...the terrible treatment of the border agent suggested that she'd immediately be deported...yet, during the phone call with the American father we hear both Amelia and the two kids...such suggests that-for now, alt least-she's still in the States.

Answer: I think the message at the beginning is different as he has no-one to care for the kids. In the replay at the end he says Rachel will sort out the kids. I need to listen more closely to the two messages - the were both mumbled like actors in US movies seem to do, annoyingly. I feel that the film is showing what could have happened to the kids.

I've put a complete answer attached to the main thread for you. But no it's not showing what could've happened, it's showing what did happen. The call brad Pitt makes at the end of the film is the very first call we see Amelia get at the start. Then a bit later she gets another call saying "Rachel can't get there" and then the Mexico part of the timeline unfolds. Chronologically this happens after the final scene with brad Pitt at the end of the film in the hospital.

Question: Do clones have the option to choose whether or not to obey the Chancellor's orders? Because not all clones did - Captain Rex for example.

Answer: The Clone Wars series depicts the insertion of a biochip during the cloning process on Kamino - in Star Wars Rebels, Rex mentions he removed his own chip before Order 66. He was warned of their function by Fives after Tup's chip had malfunctioned.

Sierra1

Clone Wars season seven actually clarifies that Rex didn't remove his chip on his own, but was able to resist Order 66 long enough to tell Ahsoka to read his report on Fives, which allowed her to learn about the inhibitor chip and remove it from his head. Rex being able to resist it suggests that Wulffe may have also resisted it long enough for his to be removed, since he also seemed fairly close to his general.

Question: With many of the actors playing central characters reprising their roles, does anyone know why the princesses were re-cast?

Bishop73

Chosen answer: Kimberley Kates (who played Elizabeth in the first film) said in an interview on a B&T fan podcast that she and Diane Franklin were scheduled to reprise the roles, but then heard that they had been recast. She believed it was because the English director Peter Hewitt did not like English characters being played by American actresses.

Question: In 1955 when Doc and Marty are in the outdoor cinema and Marty is accelerating to 88mph to jump back in time to 1885, doc shouts something to him in celebration as Marty Drives past him, he also fires his gun in the air... Do you know what he shouts? The subtitles just say "shouts something in Spanish" but id love to know what he said and what it means?

TDFarthing

Chosen answer: "Vaya con dios!", Spanish for "Go with God".

Sierra1

Answer: The subtitles are wrong! I always heard him shout "to the ends of the Earth " A reference to Jules Verne (keeping that theme running all through the third movie) and to Marty's adventures. Not only is this what I've heard every time I've watched this film, but it makes much more sense.

This is incorrect. He does in fact yell "Vaya con dios." The scene is available on Youtube and he can be seen and heard saying it at the 2:47 mark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zV9udBGZio4.

Question: Was Kreiger going to kill Ethan Hunt above the vault immediately after grabbing the disk from Ethan's mouth? Earlier when Ethan says, "Zero body count," Kreiger responds "We'll see," insinuating maybe he's still planning to kill somebody. As soon as Ethan's to the top, Kreiger grabs the disk, a quick, "Merci" (as if saying thanks, now goodbye), and the knife is already out, but luckily dropped. They are both so freaked out at such a near miss, Ethan doesn't even notice Kreiger was going to kill him. Did this cross anybody else's mind? Why else was the knife out to be dropped?

Answer: I disagree with the other answers. I watched it in slow motion and thought he was going for the kill. There would be minimal struggle since Ethan isn't in a fighting position and Krieger was inches from his throat with the knife before he dropped it. He wouldn't care if there's a lock down because he would be out by the time they notice Ethan's body above. I guess blood spilling would give it away, but he'd still be out and under cover before anything can be done. He doesn't have to know who Max is or how to contact her he's working with Claire and Phelps. Luther wouldn't care too much because he just met them. At most all they have to say is that there was an accident and Ethan didn't make it. Max wouldn't care because she just wants the real list. If Ethan dies early the bad guys win and IMF will think hey he was the mole and got double crossed. There is 0 reason for Krieger to not kill him at that moment. He has the disc and that's all he needs.

Job as Jim lost confidence of Max. The deal was with Ethan. Ethan had to survive.

Answer: Krieger presumably used his knife to kill the rat in the vent. It's unlikely he would have tried to kill Ethan above the vault, as there would have been a noisy struggle which would set off the intrusion countermeasures. Luther would have also seen it happen on Ethan's head-mounted camera.

Sierra1

Also, Krieger didn't know how to communicate with Max.

Krieger didn't need to communicate with Max because he was actually working with Claire and Jim, and Jim was in communication with Max.

Krieger may have killed the rat with the knife, but that's not why it's in his hand when he confronts Ethan. After killing the rat, he has both hands on the cable holding Ethan.

Answer: I don't think he intended to kill him. If so, why would Ethan continue to work with a guy who literally just tried to murder him? But I also have no idea why Krieger had the knife out.

Question: Why does Jim show himself to Ethan in London? This makes no sense, especially because Clair (who is secretly working with Jim), can keep Jim apprised as to what Ethan is up to anyway.

mysterylover

Chosen answer: I suspect that Jim wanted to make absolutely sure that Ethan thought Kitteridge was the IMF mole who had betrayed them - the only way to do that was to tell Ethan that Kitteridge had shot him on the bridge.

The Horns of Nimon - S17-E5

Question: What does the Doctor mean at the end of the episode about changing the colours of the ships or spaceships from green to white? Is this a reference to an earlier episode or something else?

mastersorvad

Chosen answer: In the original legend of the Minotaur, Theseus' ship was supposed to approach Athens with white sails if he had slain the creature, or black sails if he had been killed. Although he killed the Minotaur, he forgot to change the sails to white and his father, King Aegeus, killed himself in despair. Two stories earlier ("The Creature from the Pit"), the Doctor claimed to have been involved in the original legend and said he had forgotten to remind Theseus about the sails.

Die Another Day (2002)

Question: In "The World Is Not Enough" Bond, using his intuition, correctly assessed that Elektra King had sided with the villain. So why did he never suspect for a second that Miranda Frost had done the same in this film?

Answer: Bond's suspicions about Elektra King were triggered by his discovery that her head of security, Davidov, was working with Renard. With Miranda Frost, there was nothing that would have led Bond to believe she was a double agent working for Graves/Moon in any capacity other than her undercover MI6 assignment.

The Matrix (1999)

Question: If none of the cops knew about Trinity's abilities, why did they send so many cops to smash her door and hold her at gunpoint like she was a terrorist? To them she was just a hacker, which doesn't put anyone in physical danger, so wouldn't just one officer have been enough?

MikeH

Chosen answer: Trinity was a known associate of Morpheus, considered "the most dangerous man alive", so the police would have taken some precautions - even a hacker could be armed in any case. At least four units would be sensible for any kind of raid, regardless of how harmless they assumed the suspect was. However, the lieutenant only sent two units into the hotel to detain her so he didn't think it was that big a deal, and there were two more outside.

Question: In the beginning of the movie when the guy is shot while sipping coffee in that outdoor little cafe, the assassin fires two rounds. #1 hits the young mother in the forehead, #2 kills the guy sitting at the little table, then the spy is shot. He only fires twice, so how did he kill 3 people?

Answer: I've watched the scene several times - the people at the cafe are the British spy Prideaux, his contact, the young mother, an old man behind them and two men to the right side. When Prideaux walks away, the waiter runs out and fires wildly, hitting the mother in the head. He then fires again and hits Prideaux in the back. No one else appears to have been hit, the other men at the cafe are just moving to get out of the way.
