Character mistake: When Polly answers the phone and is told of the log drifting in the channel, she immediately yells to Sean and tells him this. However, she does not leave enough time for the caller to be able to tell her all this, she leaves 1-2 seconds before passing it on to Sean.

Plot hole: By the time O'Halloran phones Roberts, who is in the promenade room, and tells him of their plan to blow the water tanks, over 50 of the floors below the promenade room, along with the roof which is also ablaze, have been destroyed by the fire. So surely the phone lines would have been destroyed as well, making a phone call to the promenade room impossible.

Revealing mistake: When Harry walks around the side of the house towards the front door, in the shot which shows Harry walking from side-on, this is obviously a stand-in, given this person is much taller than Joe Pesci (who plays Harry). It is also the same stand-in when we see Harry in the behind shots as he holds onto the railings while he tries to climb the steps.

Other mistake: The five yellow barrels are not on the Orca when they are getting ready to leave shore. When Quint begins singing, goes and stands at the cabin door, you can see through the front windows that the barrels are not there. With the Orca leaving just moments later, they should have already had the barrels on board.

Revealing mistake: When Howard arrives at the Mall of America he comes down an escalator. We then see a shot of the gathering crowd in front of him. In this shot you can see Howard with a woman in light blue with her hand on his left shoulder as he pushes his way through the crowd. This is before he joins the crowd.

Continuity mistake: When the first woman goes across on the breeches buoy, the overhead shot of her going across does not show the outside elevator which at this stage is hanging by a cable and stuck on the outside. However, it is visible in the shots from the peerless building which the breeches buoy is attached to.

Character mistake: Just before the fire starts on the 81st floor, a man is shown telling an elderly couple that business offices only go as high as 80, and that 81-120 is exclusively residential. Not long after O'Hallorhan arrives, he asks Jernigan for a list of business tenants from 81-85, which Jernigan replies "most are yet to move in and those that have are not working at night". As said by the man earlier, these floors do not house business tenants, only residential.

Continuity mistake: When Cutter fights the hijacker near the bathroom door and puts a gun to his head, there is a shot of Rane and Liz Hurley arriving on the scene and behind them is the hijacker who wears glasses. But this hijacker does not appear in the following sequence, even though he was right there a second earlier.

Continuity mistake: In the flashbacks seen at the start of the film, Charles Nichols introduces Kimble to Alec Lentz. When this flashback is revisited later in the film, when Kimble breaks into Frederick Sykes' house, the words and actions of Nichols and Lentz are slightly different to what was seen earlier in the film.
