Hogan's Heroes (1965)

Anchors Aweigh, Men of Stalag 13 - S1-E16

Revealing mistake: When the "Boat" is loaded on a "trailer", you can see that it has very little ground clearance. The wheels of the "trailer" actually are hidden behind the boards like on a parade wagon. The boat has no keel and no hull below its freeboard. Besides the question of how the boat got onto the trailer if it is practically built around it, there remains the question of how it is supposed to stay afloat without a keel or a bottom.

Klink for the Defense - S6-E19

Continuity mistake: General Burkhalter is eating Klink's dinner. When finished he places a metal cover over the plate. In the next shot the cover is lying on the table and there is extra food on the plate.

The Softer They Fall - S5-E18

Factual error: Burkhalter refers to Jesse Owens winning the gold medals in the Berlin Olympics, and that Hitler left the stadium every time Owens was to be presented a medal. Truth was, Hitler left the stadium when another black man won the day before, and didn't snub Owens at all. In fact, Hitler wasn't in attendance the days Owens won.

Trivia: During WW2 Robert Clary, who played Louis LeBeau, had been imprisoned at Drancy internment camp in France, and at Buchenwald Nazi concentration camp where he was tattooed with the number "A5714." He was the youngest of 16 children. Twelve members of his immediate family were sent to Auschwitz, and perished.

Trivia: Hogan's Heroes was originally conceived as a comedy set in a U.S. Penitentiary. Creator Bernard Fein tried for four years to sell it, gave up, and was headed home on a plane when he saw a passenger reading the novel Von Ryan's Express. That gave him an idea. He flew back to Hollywood with a proposal for a show now set in a German P.O.W. Camp, and sold the series in four days.

The Defector - S5-E10

Trivia: Field Marshall Richter's car is a Rolls Royce. It can be determined first from the radiator. It has the base for the famous flying lady, but she is missing. Second, there is a rectangle on the face of the radiator that appeared to have once had the Rolls Royce logo plaque. Also, the body style and the small trunk with the small top-mounted access panel are suggestive of the Rolls Royce.

Show generally

Question: What season and episode was it when they had to lean the guard tower and the POWs in the camp leaned so the guards would not notice?

Chosen answer: 1-24: How to Cook a German Goose by Radar.

Season 1 generally

Question: In multiple episodes we see a box hanging just inside the barracks door. What is that? It is mostly blue, and appears to have flowers or something painted on it.

TDPierce

Answer: After careful inspection, the aforementioned box is a decorated holder for the boxes of long matches needed to light the stove.

Movie Nut

Chosen answer: In different episodes of "Hogan's Heroes, " the arrangement of items in the barracks varies. Sometimes there is a sink on one side of the door. Sometimes there is a chest of drawers on the other. I have seen episodes where a hanging box is there, as you describe. To my eye, the decoration appears to be a kind of camouflage design. I had assumed it was where mail was delivered to the prisoners. It could also be a storage for small items, such as a medicine container. I don't recall ever seeing it opened or otherwise used. Normally, in situations like this, when questions arise regarding set pieces, set decoration or costumes, I attempt to look up the show's crew members IMDb.com to pose the question to the source (when I can find them on, say, Facebook). In this case, however, all of the gentlemen responsible for set decoration on "Hogan's Heroes" have since passed away.

Michael Albert

The Antique - S5-E12

Question: When Hogan gives Klink $100 for the cuckoo clock, the bill handed over was a crisp American $100 note. How did Hogan get an American $100 note? At best, in this time period, he should only have Reich Marks. And how would he have 333 Marks, 33 pfennigs? Unless he had a side businesses going, this seems unlikely.

Movie Nut

Chosen answer: Hogan and his men are running a spy ring out of the camp, they have access to supplies from outside. (In another episode, they have to convince a defecting German officer that they're legitimately working for the Allies by arranging a specific personal ad to run in the next day's London Times, so a new $100 bill is not beyond their capabilities).
