Dr. No

Plot hole: When Bond is escaping through the metal ducts, presumably of Dr No's air-conditioning, he is deluged with torrents of water. He then leaves the pipe work through a metal grille into a passageway - why didn't the water leave the same way? (01:33:05)

Continuity mistake: The dashboard of the driver's car that picked Bond up in Jamaica keeps changing colour and brand, from a red 1957 Chevrolet dash to a black 1957 Ford dash. (00:18:25)

Factual error: When Professor Dent tries to shoot Bond at Miss Taro's and Bond is waiting for him in the darkened room, the 'Walther PPK' that Bond is busily screwing the silencer onto, at the beginning of the scene, does not have an external hammer, and is therefore not a Walther at all. It's a Browning 1910 .32 calibre. (00:55:10 - 00:56:35)

Suggested correction: Correct to say it's not a PPK, but it's not a Browning either - in a close up one can see the Beretta logo on the grip.

First off, it is certainly not a Beretta. That's not the Beretta logo (3 arrows), but it's the Fabrique Nationale logo (stylized FN). Plus the Beretta has an external hammer and the gun in question does not. It is indeed a Browning 1910 (which is manufactured by Fabrique Nationale. Finally, it is not necessary to submit a correction for mistakes that are accurate but have one or two words wrong (not that this mistake had any words wrong).

Continuity mistake: When Bond is firing at the armoured car, trying to shoot the lights out, he begins with an FN Browning Model 1910 but then all of a sudden, it turns into a Colt M1911, a pistol about twice the Browning's size. (01:13:05)

Continuity mistake: At one point Honey is not wearing a bikini top under her wet shirt when they are wading along the creek; the impression of her nipple is briefly visible through the wet fabric. When they are captured she is wearing the bikini top again. (01:06:30)

Audio problem: When Bond awakens on the beach and sees Honey Ryder emerging from the water, Honey is singing "Under the Mango Tree", but when she comes out of the water and shakes her head back, her lips are not moving. (01:00:05)

Continuity mistake: As Bond's driver cuts a hard right turn, the tracks from previous takes are on the road. As the pursuing car draws up to that spot, the dust has quickly settled, and the tracks are suddenly gone. (00:19:05)

Movie Nut

Continuity mistake: When the freelance photographer is sitting down with Bond, the strap is around her neck, after the cut to a close up of her, the strap is gone. Then they show Bond take the strap off her neck. (00:31:35)

Plot hole: It's assumed that Dr. No had Professor Dent slip the spider into Bond's hotel room that night but if it were that easy to do that then why not just hide an assassin in the room to begin with. Someone had to be in the room to tamper with Bond's briefcase, the closet, and possibly the bottle of liquor so just hide an assassin instead of waiting for the spider to kill Bond. (00:40:00)

Other mistake: After the decontamination chamber scene, Bond and Honey drink a cup of coffee. Honey very quickly passes out due to the tea being laced with some type of sleep inducing drug. However, as Bond throws his cup in anger, Honey flinches very hard. Surprising considering how quickly she passed out after drinking the coffee. (01:20:15)

Visible crew/equipment: At the airport in Jamaica, when Bond uses the telephone booth, you can see the lighting and crew members reflected in the glass door as he opens it to walk in and out and when Felix opens the door. (00:16:50)

Continuity mistake: When Bond is confronting Professor Dent one of his socks varies in height from clip to clip. (00:55:35)

Character mistake: When 007 is interrogating Professor Dent at Miss Taro's house, Dent attempts to shoot him when he asks "who are you working for?" But a minute ago, his gun ran out of ammo when he was shooting at the fake 007 in the bed. So there is no point of picking it up and trying to shoot him. Also, when this happens, 007 says "that's a Smith and Wesson. And you've had your six." This is incorrect, as Dent carried a Colt M1911. However, he did fire six shots before running empty, which is one bullet less than the magazine capacity of an M1911. (00:56:30)

Other mistake: At the beginning of the film when the lady who is calling London on the radio is shot through the glass there is a jump cut. This shows that two scenes were spliced together. Perhaps the prop gun didn't work the first time. The framing of the shot noticeably jumps when the gun shot happens. (00:04:50)

Continuity mistake: When Mary, Strangway's P.A. is shot, her blood is on a differently patterned carpet than when Bond later on analyses the house. (00:05:00 - 00:22:30)

Other mistake: At the end, James and Honey jump into a small boat, and after James has dealt with the two men in the boat, Honey deals with the front tender, but no-one deals with the rear tender - we can see it rising out of the water, but somehow it is no longer attached to the boat. (01:43:50)

Continuity mistake: When Bond goes to see a fisherman, to ask him about a man's death, the fisherman walks away, saying he knows nothing, and walks into a bar on the beach. He is talking to the barman and the bar has nothing on it, until a second later, when, suddenly, there is an open bottle of beer, a glass half-filled with beer and an ashtray. (00:28:00)

Continuity mistake: In the scene at Strangways', an older woman is talking on the radio. Then a shot shows a younger woman's unblemished hand operating the radio controls. (00:04:40)

Alparslan Torun

Continuity mistake: When professor Dent throws the gun down it lands on the edge of the bed cover - almost on the floor, but in the next clip it is in the middle of the bed cover. (00:55:40)

Trivia: Because Dr No's lair is underwater, you can see fish swimming through the windows. However, an error was made when using footage of fish so they look larger than they would. In order to get around this, they added in dialogue where Dr No explains how the window works like a magnifying glass.

Question: Bond is very picky about having a martinti, shaken not stirred. If he drank a martini that was stirred, not shaken, would he be able to tell the difference?

Answer: Actually, yes, he would. The key to a vodka martini, Bond's preferred tipple, is that it should be served ice-cold. By shaking the drink, the ice cubes have a better chance to swish around the whole drink than they would if it was only stirred. It apparently also has the effect of dispersing the ingredients better, giving a different taste to the drink. In the spirit of scientific experimentation, some friends and I tried the drink both ways in a blind taste test a while back - it makes a surprising difference.

Answer: Shaking also causes more melting of the ice resulting in a milder, if watered down, taste suited to Bond's sophisticated palate.

Answer: We tried that as well on several times and on many various evenings. There is a serious difference.
