Dr. No

Continuity mistake: The dashboard of the driver's car that picked Bond up in Jamaica keeps changing colour and brand, from a red 1957 Chevrolet dash to a black 1957 Ford dash. (00:18:25)

Continuity mistake: When the spider crawls up Bond's arm, and we see the spider in close-up, they are using a stand-in with much more muscular arms than Sean Connery.

Factual error: When Professor Dent tries to shoot Bond at Miss Taro's and Bond is waiting for him in the darkened room, the 'Walther PPK' that Bond is busily screwing the silencer onto, at the beginning of the scene, does not have an external hammer, and is therefore not a Walther at all. It's a Browning 1910 .32 calibre. (00:55:10 - 00:56:35)

Suggested correction: Correct to say it's not a PPK, but it's not a Browning either - in a close up one can see the Beretta logo on the grip.

First off, it is certainly not a Beretta. That's not the Beretta logo (3 arrows), but it's the Fabrique Nationale logo (stylized FN). Plus the Beretta has an external hammer and the gun in question does not. It is indeed a Browning 1910 (which is manufactured by Fabrique Nationale. Finally, it is not necessary to submit a correction for mistakes that are accurate but have one or two words wrong (not that this mistake had any words wrong).

Continuity mistake: When Bond is firing at the armoured car, trying to shoot the lights out, he begins with an FN Browning Model 1910 but then all of a sudden, it turns into a Colt M1911, a pistol about twice the Browning's size. (01:13:05)

2

Plot hole: It's assumed that Dr. No had Professor Dent slip the spider into Bond's hotel room that night but if it were that easy to do that then why not just hide an assassin in the room to begin with. Someone had to be in the room to tamper with Bond's briefcase, the closet, and possibly the bottle of liquor so just hide an assassin instead of waiting for the spider to kill Bond.

Continuity mistake: At one point Honey is not wearing a bikini top under her wet shirt when they are wading along the creek; the impression of her nipple is briefly visible through the wet fabric. When they are captured she is wearing the bikini top again.

2

Audio problem: When Bond awakens on the beach and sees Honey Ryder emerging from the water, Honey is singing "Under the Mango Tree", but when she comes out of the water and shakes her head back, her lips are not moving.

2

Revealing mistake: James Bond and his two friends are hiding underwater while Dr. No's thugs search the river with dogs. Bond had very quickly cut three hollow bamboo stalks to use to breathe underwater through the stalks. However, you can see the sections in the bamboo, so the closed stalk sections, separated by the natural divider, would not allow air to pass through. Bond hadn't cleared through the sections with a thin pole, so these would not have been usable as breathing tubes without more work. (01:10:00 - 01:12:00)

Continuity mistake: When the freelance photographer is sitting down with Bond, the strap is around her neck, after the cut to a close up of her, the strap is gone. Then they show Bond take the strap off her neck. (00:31:35)

Other mistake: After the decontamination chamber scene, Bond and Honey drink a cup of coffee. Honey very quickly passes out due to the tea being laced with some type of sleep inducing drug. However, as Bond throws his cup in anger, Honey flinches very hard. Surprising considering how quickly she passed out after drinking the coffee.

Visible crew/equipment: At the airport in Jamaica, when Bond uses the telephone booth, you can see the lighting and crew members reflected in the glass door as he opens it to walk in and out and when Felix opens the door. (00:16:50)

Continuity mistake: When Bond is confronting Professor Dent one of his socks varies in height from clip to clip. (00:55:35)

Character mistake: When 007 is interrogating Professor Dent at Miss Taro's house, Dent attempts to shoot him when he asks "who are you working for?" But a minute ago, his gun ran out of ammo when he was shooting at the fake 007 in the bed. So there is no point of picking it up and trying to shoot him. Also, when this happens, 007 says "that's a Smith and Wesson. And you've had your six." This is incorrect, as Dent carried a Colt M1911. However, he did fire six shots before running empty, which is one bullet less than the magazine capacity of an M1911.

Continuity mistake: As Bond's driver cuts a hard right turn, the tracks from previous takes are on the road. As the pursuing car draws up to that spot, the dust has quickly settled, and the tracks are suddenly gone.

Other mistake: At the beginning of the film when the lady who is calling London on the radio is shot through the glass there is a jump cut. This shows that two scenes were spliced together. Perhaps the prop gun didn't work the first time. The framing of the shot noticeably jumps when the gun shot happens.

Continuity mistake: When Mary, Strangway's P.A. is shot, her blood is on a differently patterned carpet than when Bond later on analyses the house.

1

Other mistake: At the end, James and Honey jump into a small boat, and after James has dealt with the two men in the boat, Honey deals with the front tender, but no-one deals with the rear tender - we can see it rising out of the water, but somehow it is no longer attached to the boat.

Continuity mistake: When Bond goes to see a fisherman, to ask him about a man's death, the fisherman walks away, saying he knows nothing, and walks into a bar on the beach. He is talking to the barman and the bar has nothing on it, until a second later, when, suddenly, there is an open bottle of beer, a glass half-filled with beer and an ashtray.

Continuity mistake: In the scene at Strangways', an older woman is talking on the radio. Then a shot shows a younger woman's unblemished hand operating the radio controls.

Continuity mistake: When professor Dent throws the gun down it lands on the edge of the bed cover - almost on the floor, but in the next clip it is in the middle of the bed cover.

Trivia: Sean Connery started going bald when he was 21. In 'Dr. No' (he was 32 then) and any subsequent movies in which he has hair, he was actually wearing a hair-piece.

Suggested correction: Contrary to popular belief, Sir Sean Connery was not wearing a hairpiece in his first two outings as James Bond. Although he was already balding by the time Dr. No was in production, he still had a decent amount of hair and the filmmakers used varying techniques to make the most of what was left. By the time of Goldfinger (1964), Connery's hair was too thin and so various toupees were used for his last Bond outings.

Question: When James Bond goes to see Professor Dent at his office, it's morning. After he leaves, Dent goes out to Dr. No's island and picks up the caged tarantula. The next time we see Bond, he's returning to his hotel, and it's night, probably late, as he goes to sleep soon after. Where did Bond go between seeing Dent in the morning and returning to his hotel that night?

Answer: It's obvious what he does between those times. In "Goldfinger," Felix Leiter sees him just moseying off between an event and the climax of the movie and says to his pal "Ten'll get you one it's a drink or a dame." No doubt Bond's using his time...productively.
