Factual error: When the Trojans flee inside the walls at the arrival of the Greeks, you can see some llamas. Llamas were only known in Latin America and not in ancient Troy. (02:20:10)
Factual error: The car accident involving the truck that killed Paul is not realistic. Paul made a left turn and upon completion of the turn, a truck suddenly plowed into him on the driver's side. For this to happen, the truck would have had to be going the wrong way on the same street Paul turned off in the opposite lanes. The movie made it look as if the truck ran a light in the intersection and sideswiped him. In addition, Terri said the other driver "ran a red light." This conflicts the scene - the truck would NOT have a light at all if being in the wrong lanes (the only way this could remotely happened the way the film shows).
Factual error: Raoul is the Vicomte de Chagny and he gets called that throughout the movie, even during the auction (which shows he didn't change titles when his parents or his brother died, for example). Yet Christine's tombstone calls her a countess when it should have read viscountess - or, even better, vicomtesse.
Factual error: Flynn says that the chamber in the Mayan temple is "an exact replica of their great temple of Teotihuacan." But Teotihuacan was not a Mayan city, but rather the hub of a separate civilization (themselves called the Teotihuacan). It was in central Mexico, hundreds of miles from the Mayan area in the Yucatan Peninsula.
Factual error: Peter and Lizzie play their semi-finals on the same day, but the men's semis are the day after the women's at Wimbledon (unless there has been significant rain, which there wasn't).
Factual error: During the Thanksgiving sequence, all of the characters are outside in shirtsleeves. This is odd as by November, it is cold in Wisconsin.
Factual error: Novorski buys a small hamburger at Burger King for 74 cents. Airport fast food restaurant menus are priced higher than restaurants in the city. Even if a dollar menu was available (usually not at airport locations), you can't get a burger at an airport for 74 cents.
Factual error: After putting Jenna in the closet, everyone crowds together and plan to leave. One girl holds a diet coke can, which is obviously a more modern design, and not from 1980's. (00:10:30)
Factual error: In the scene that takes place in Ollie's office after the death of his wife, he is talking to Arthur Brickman who is sitting in front of a plaque for the band Songs:Ohia's album, "Ghost Tropic." We know that the scene is happening 7 years in the past, because Gertie is a baby. "Ghost Tropic" wasn't released until November of 2000.
Factual error: The mansion Allie is staying in over the summer is Boone Hall Plantation in South Carolina, near Charleston. It was built in the 1930's, so factually the house couldn't have been in the family as long as the characters make it seem. A lot of the filming was also done in Kiawah, an island near Folly Beach.
Factual error: When Julia Roberts takes a photo of Natalie Portman crying she uses a 35mm camera. The final photo in the gallery is from a Hasselblad type camera shooting a square format. All the prints show the full negative and the outside area of the negative. Also when she uses the 35mm camera sometimes she advances the film manually and sometimes you hear a motor drive. It would be either one or the other. Last she doesn't focus the lens when she takes a picture.
Factual error: When they show the Nelson Eddy song 'I Love You', the set/movie shown is Rose-Marie. But that number is from Rosalie not Rose-Marie. Two totally different movies - one set in West Point not with the Canadian Mounties. There are no Cole Porter songs in Rose-Marie, likewise there are no Mounties in Rosalie. Rose-Marie's music was by Harbach / Hammerstein II / Friml / Stothart. (01:09:25)
Factual error: The bird hovering near Manech's lighthouse is supposed to be an Albatross, but it's a Gannet.
Factual error: Toward the end of the movie just as Austin and his team start the football game, the camera shows the scoreboard counting down from 15:00 minutes, the problem with this is high school football games are played in 12:00 minute quarters not 15:00.
Factual error: The stadium in the opening scene was not around in 1995. The first game played in that stadium was 2001.
Factual error: Celine and Jesse are walking from Shakespeare & Company on the left bank of Seine to the Pure Cafe on the right bank, but they never cross a bridge.
Factual error: When Pete is in the office of the Piggly Wiggly and his "boss" asks when they will be losing him to Richmond. Pete states that he has already received his acceptance letter from Virginia State (University). Virginia State is in Petersburg, VA not Richmond. The writers most likely put the capitol city in the film, considering more people would know where they were talking about.
Factual error: Bridget appears to be making her first parachute jump. The mistake is that she would not be permitted under UK law to make her first jump the way she does. She would either have to jump with a static line attached to the aircraft, which opens her parachute automatically. Or if she took an accelerated free fall course, she could free fall but she would do so with two instructors jumping with her to steady her and open her chute if she panicked.
Factual error: The backdrop to the party scene in India shows a large building with glass windows. The Romans were the first to use glass windows some 300 years later.
Factual error: Whenever you see a license plate, it says "Puerto Rico, Isla Del Encanto" (where the film was shot). The movie takes place in Cuba.
Suggested correction: When you watch "love never dies" he leaves her because the phantom won the bet, it's implied they got a "divorce" so she is still a countess.
But, in love never dies, it shows Christine dying in the year 1910, (when the whole thing was set) but on her tombstone, it shows that she died in 1913. Since Gustave is ten years old, this would make Christine in her late forties-early fifties when she had him, which is practically impossible. This is why I love LND's music, but the story is just too cheesy and inconsistent to the original for me. Since the original creator of the musical, Andrew Lloyd Webber, has chosen to call it a "stand-alone piece." and not a sequel, I would not use it as a reference for future endeavors with the trio.
Vicomtesse and Comtesse are two completely different titles. For Christine to become a Comtesse, Raoul would have had to become a Comte, but he didn't. He remained a Vicomte, therefore, Christine's tombstone should have read Vicomtesse de Chagny. It doesn't, so this mistake is valid.
