Stupidity: The prison where Magneto is held should have had a contingency plan just in case of escape, like machine guns outside the cell, or tranquilizer darts, or gas.

Suggested correction: What good would machine guns and tranquilizer darts be against a man who can literally control and manipulate metal? As for gas, the area outside the cell is so large that any gas would quickly dissipate before it could be effective.

A gun made of plastic, there are million of materials beside metal.

Stupidity: All the mutants on the island need Magneto at the last second to take control of the missiles so they don't land and explode. Why didn't Azazel just teleport everyone off the island?

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: Given the situation, there was probably very little time to come up with a plan like this. The missiles were flying towards them extremely quickly, and there would have been nowhere near enough time to band every single person together for Azazel to teleport them all out of there in just a few seconds.

Casual Person

There was plenty of time. He could have taken 5 at a time down the Beach 3 miles and came back for the rest. Earlier in the movie he was moving so fast men were falling from the sky at nearly the same time and he was teleporting them one at a time.

Stupidity: Carol enters the Imperial Cruiser that doubles as a secret laboratory, uncloaking it. She does not cloak it back, so the villains just find it immediately. But blood-thirsty Ronan, despite having multiple ships, does not target it or acknowledge it, despite fully knowing that Earth has no defenses and is not a threat, while a Kree vessel would necessitate countermeasures.

Sammo

Suggested correction: The Kree wanted what was on the ship. Destroying it would not achieve their goals. Additionally, since Carol was able to decloak it using her suit, so could any other Kree soldiers.

If to decloak it they need to know the location, it had to be visible to begin with? Going by the movie, Ronan has not even been informed about Mar-Vell's project. If the movie still remembers there is any (no indication is given), he suddenly finds a ship not part of his fleet and does not question it, simply going by what the plot wants him to do. Which, actually, could be fully intentional, since he obviously just cares about blowing stuff up and does not care even if any of his fellow Krees is still on the planet (not that the movie implies it, as movies normally would, but he's such a one-note character that it could be possible).

Sammo

Earth doesn't have defenses and is not a threat, the Kree cruiser is obviously not part of Earth's defenses but is one of their own. He just didn't realise it is a target instead. Besides, Kree are on board, why would he target it?

lionhead

That's exactly the point of what I originally said: Earth is not a threat, but he, fresh off his jump, right away gets in bombing mode without checking where the other Krees are (Yon-Rogg is on Earth at that exact moment, right the spot he is dropping the bombs at, even!) or batting an eye at the cruiser that happens to be already there, not target it but ask "what is going on here?", hail them or receive a report about the situation and where he is supposed to blow his load (would have been a single line of dialogue, here it seems an issue entirely ignored because plot moves from A to B): as a member of the military he is supposed to coordinate his attacks (like he did earlier on the first meeting with the Skrulls, where he bombed a specific part of the planet). Here all his instructions have been "Come at once, Earth has been infiltrated!", but he launches the bombs right away, seconds after jumping close to Earth.

Stupidity: This film portrays Michael Jordan and his family living in a relatively modest house in the suburbs. Jordan was one of the most famous people on the entire planet around the time the film takes place. Living in such an area would lead to a never-ending onslaught of overzealous fans, paparazzi, and even detractors.

Stupidity: Why would Stanley say the shoes fell out of the sky? It happened under a bridge. Any normal person would instantly realise someone threw them off the bridge.

MikeH

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: It's an idiom/expression. When something turns up out of nowhere, we say "it came/fell from the sky." In fact, Mr. Sir says this to Stanley when he finds Stanley with his empty bag of sunflower seeds, "Where did this come from? Did it fall from the sky?" Obviously a sarcastic way of saying, "it didn't get there by itself, someone put it there." So the shoes obviously fell from the bridge and Stanley knows this because Zero refers to the bridge later in the movie.

Stupidity: Immediately after Unkar Plutt makes Rey a generous offer for BB-8 and she refuses, he tells someone over his communicator to follow her and bring back the droid. He should have at least waited until she was out of earshot before he said that, especially if he was trying to be covert about it.

Suggested correction: But he was out of earshot of her.

lionhead

I posted this immediately after watching the scene in question, and it looked as though Plutt spoke into his communicator right after Rey turned around and went on her way; certainly too soon for her to have gotten more than a few steps away. Also, he spoke at a normal, conversational volume rather than anything that sounded like a whisper or "sotto voce", so unless he was relying on the ambient noise of other nearby activity, I still believe this "stupidity" is valid.

zendaddy621

That depends on how sneaky you think Plutt is. Rey walks away in quick paces, so she is out of earshot. Also I don't think it bothers him that much if she heard, she is just a scavenger, what can she do about it?

lionhead

Rey was definitely out of earshot. Rey walks completely out of the shot, which appears to be about 10 feet away. Unkar Plutt then angrily swipes the portions off the counter and picks up his communicator. At the pace Rey was walking she would have been a considerable distance away from him when he spoke. In addition, Unkar Plutt lowered his voice when he spoke because he was being sneaky. She might have been able to hear him speak, but it is totally reasonable that she wouldn't be close enough to make out exactly what he was saying.

Stupidity: Agent Toby Lee Shavers guides XXX through the wrecked military complex constantly telling information that Ice Cube should already know perfectly as essential basic mission objective data, such as the location of Gibbons' office and which hard drive to grab out of 3. Stupidity: When the plane begins crashing, Kayla tells Claire that she is sitting in an ejector seat. She also mentions that there are no parachutes because she "wasn't expecting company." If Kayla was expecting to be alone in a crash scenario, what use would installing the ejector seat in one of the passenger seats have been? She would have to move from the pilot seat to the passenger seat while the plan is crashing. Surely it would've been easier to install the ejector seat in the pilot seat.

With them, enjoying the sun, instead of baking in it." Both men had double layers on - a jacket or sweater over a jersey or T-shirt - and one man was wearing a tossel cap. Stupidity: The bad guy who spies on Bosley is visible from the very beginning of the scene, when Elena is not even inside the cafe yet. The cafe does not have many customers and the bad guy is using a loud vintage typewriter with a big mirror mounted on top (!). The Angels are portrayed as being super smart and their setup is so careful, but somehow they managed to miss something amazingly obvious. Conversely, nobody would have ever paid attention to a laptop or any silent, modern-age device perhaps with a camera or something similar, so the bad guy chose the most blatantly conspicuous accoutrement for his spying job. Try showing up to a cafe punching the keys of a big clunky typewriter and literally everyone will be looking at you. (00:18:25)

Stupidity: Gus is a blatant example of Deus Ex Machina. 1: The % of his pod malfuntion was too low. They mention multiple times how low the chances of a pod malfunction are (Jim's is the first in history), and then it happens twice? Jim's med-scanned him but Gus' didn't (?) so he had 610 things wrong with him. So he woke up dying 2: Gus' existence has only one objective: to give Jim the armband. 3: Before anything else can happen with Gus, he dies conveniently. Gus' existence had no other reason. We didn't care about him emotionally. He didn't advance the plot. He provided no new info or answers to questions. (failure cascade is easily discernible by Jim once he has access to the bridge) It would have been easier to just let Jim find an armband/access another way. DXM: holder of the macguffin magically appears (pod failure) delivers the macguffin (armband + code) goes away (dies without explanation) it's downright shameful.

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: This is all your opinion of a plotline - admittedly, an utterly lame one - not a film mistake. Film criticism and error spotting are two different things.

In addition, the statistics about pod malfunctions obviously referred to spontaneous malfunctions, which had never happened. These malfunctions in the movie, however, were not spontaneous – they were caused by catastrophic failure of the ship itself due to an asteroid hit.
