Revealing mistake: A re-used sickbay scene taken from an earlier episode causes Nurse Chapel to instantly revert to her old hairdo as the sound waves make her fall unconscious. (00:41:00)
Shore Leave - S1-E16
Revealing mistake: There is a wooden or straw hut - some kind of man-made structure - visible in the lower-left of the frame behind Kirk and Bones as they walk. (00:12:30)
Where No Man Has Gone Before - S1-E4
Revealing mistake: After the ship enters the galactic barrier, when Kirk orders "navigation on automatic" there are flashes of light, and in a closeup of the first console just to the left of the main viewscreen, we can see the special effects material spread across the panel below the controls, for the fire to burn when it explodes. Then it cuts to the wideshot as a second console (near Spock's station) blows up, but in the background that first console is intact - no fire/damage whatsoever (it explodes again in a following wideshot). (00:10:00)
Shore Leave - S1-E16
Revealing mistake: Stock footage turns the single plane strafing Rodriguez and Angela into two attacking planes for a moment. It becomes one plane again when it flies over Kirk and company. (00:33:40)
Revealing mistake: McCoy's stunt double's face is visible several times during the fight with the berserk orderly in the sickbay lab. (00:19:15)
Revealing mistake: After Kirk and the crew arrive underground, he stuns Kira and removes her bracelet. After he removes it, the unconcious woman quite deliberately lays her hand flat on the ground. (00:21:15)
Revealing mistake: Zarabeth tells Spock that Zor Khan only left her what was necessary to survive in the ice age. Mascara, eyeliner, lipstick and hairspray were apparently considered survival necessities. Yes, we know the actress "had" to wear make-up. But in a prehistoric setting, it shouldn't look as though she did. She could and should have been given a more "natural" make-up job - and an unlacquered hairdo. (00:38:25)
The Trouble With Tribbles - S2-E15
Revealing mistake: When Kirk and Spock answer the intercom in the ship's corridor, Spock's uniform has a large brown coffee stain on the front. (This was digitally removed in the DVD release, but is still visible in the newly-syndicated "computer enhanced" version.). (00:17:00)
Revealing mistake: During the fist fight between the transported crew and Spock, the use of stunt doubles in the wide shot is quite obvious.
The Trouble With Tribbles - S2-E15
Revealing mistake: When Kirk finds his position on the bridge occupied by the Tribbles, he calls for Dr. McCoy, and as he arrives, Kirk thrusts some of the Tribbles under his nose. In the shots where Kirk's face is seen, one of the Tribbles he is holding features a visible seam.
Who Mourns for Adonais? - S2-E2
Revealing mistake: When Apollo first grows large, the shimmering edge of the special effects matte is visible in the sky just above his right shoulder. (00:13:35)
Revealing mistake: When he kicks Colonel Green away during the first fight, Kirk splits his pants. Fortunately, they mend themselves a few shots later. (00:28:00)
Let That Be Your Last Battlefield - S3-E15
Revealing mistake: Stock footage strikes again when Kirk orders the red alert. A shot of the bridge and view screen, with Kirk standing in front of his chair, once more switches Kirk out for a stand in, and Chekhov has gone and is replaced by what looks like from behind like a young woman or a man with a long neck. Also the central display between navigator and helm is now different from that earlier. (00:11:15)
Revealing mistake: For the final time in "Star Trek's" 3-season run, Chekov mysteriously vanishes from the bridge to be replaced by that tall blond doppelganger, thanks to an old piece of 1st season stock footage used for the special effects insertion of the view screen. The costumes are also noticeably different from 3rd season's uniforms. (00:14:05)
A Piece of the Action - S2-E17
Revealing mistake: Kirk has just tripped both of Krako's goons with the radio wire strung across the door. He knocks them both out, grabs a gun and then races out the door - right through the space that should still be strung with the trip wire. (00:25:15)
Revealing mistake: The Horta's round tunnels have perfectly even striations and are obviously factory-manufactured tubes. Acid secreted by an elliptical creature burning through solid rock would not create a perfect circle. The Horta is visibly not chewing, sculpting or smoothing the sides. No acid burning method would leave patterned stripes on the walls, either. (00:18:15)
Revealing mistake: At the end, a special effects matte flaw causes the rear tip of the starboard side nacelle to vanish briefly as the Enterprise orbits Scallos. (00:45:50)
Revealing mistake: In McCoy's video of the Capellans, the weapon thrown at the sapling actually misses it and nails a nearby bush instead. The tree, however, obediently breaks in half and falls over anyway. (00:00:20)
Revealing mistake: During the battle scene, the use of special effects stock footage of the view screen, as seen over the helm from the opposite side of the bridge, briefly turns the short, brunette Ensign Chekov into a tall, thin blond guy. (00:44:20)
Let That Be Your Last Battlefield - S3-E15
Revealing mistake: When Lokai leaves the bridge near the end of the episode, when he goes into the turbolift on the bridge he heads right as soon as he enters, giving away the fact that this is not a small enclosed area. (00:45:45)
Suggested correction: They're on a planet where their every thought can be almost instantly created in physical form. Within the context of the episode it wouldn't be unusual to see literally anything in the background. Perhaps one of them was thinking about something involving that structure and it was being constructed for them.
