Somebody's Going to Emergency, Somebody's Going to Jail - S2-E16
Character mistake: In this episode the Organisation of Cartographers for Social Equality claims the cartographer Mercator is German. He is in fact Belgian. He was born Rupelmonde Belgium, March 5, 1512 and died at Duisburg Germany, December 2nd, 1594. (00:24:00)
Suggested correction: Although Mercator was born in Rupelmonde, it was during a visit his parents were making to the town. His family was ethnically German, as they came from Gangelt in the Holy Roman Empire. This is also where Mercator spent much of his adult life (specifically in the German city of Duisburg). Calling him German is technically correct.
Factual error: Lord John Marbury says he is "the Earl of Croy, Marquess of Needham and Dolby and Baronet of Brycey." His title according to the British peerage rules would be "The Earl of Croy" and he would be called Lord Croy in conversation. Lord John Marbury would be what one of his younger sons also named John would be called.
College Kids - S4-E3
Character mistake: At the Rock the Vote rally at the Cambridge MA House of Blues, CJ Craig claims that 18-24 year olds are 33% of the population but only 7% of the votes. This is false: per the 2000 Census, which tracks population based on 5-year age cohorts, all persons 15-24 totals only 14% of the population. From that we could estimate the 18-24 population in 2000 as no more than 10%. See http://www.census.gov/population/www/cen2000/briefs/phc-t9/tables/tab01.pdf It is possible they meant all persons 24 and under, who make up approximately 35% of the population.
Continuity mistake: When Josh is recapping his conversation with Jack to Donna, as he is walking towards the coffee pot he his putting a pen in his shirt pocket. When they turn to walk back to his office the pen has disappeared. (00:24:50 - 00:25:50)
Factual error: At the end of the episode, a chamber music ensemble plays at the White House. One of the close-up shots is of the oboist as well as the sheet of music on her stand. The music on the stand is not the same piece as that being played, and it's not even an oboe part, but rather a piano score of some solo instrument piece, as can be told by each system having three staves, two of which are bracketed together. (00:39:20)
Continuity mistake: After Louise Thornton leaves the Democratic media consultant meeting, Josh runs after her inside the Santos campaign HQ. At some point he talks to her while catching up on her and ends the shot walking ahead of her. In the very next shot, he is again behind her, walking at a fast pace to catch up. (00:16:55)
NSF Thurmont - S6-E1
Continuity mistake: When C.J. and Toby discuss and have a snack in Toby's office while the president waits for Chairman Farad's call, at some point C.J. talks while holding the pack of peanut butter crackers in one hand, and one that she is about to eat in the other. Less than a second and a half later, the camera is back on her, but she is now seen holding a bottle of water that was on the table only seconds before. (00:24:25)
Continuity mistake: During Josh's conversation with Congressman Skinner, the beer bottles on Josh's desk change between shots. The labels point different directions, and during one shot the bottles are open, only to be closed again in the next shot. (00:10:00)
Audio problem: When Bruno unmutes the televisions in the communications office for Sam, you can hear one some of the newscasts looping before the scene ends.
Factual error: Whenever the king of Sweden is mentioned by name they always refer to him as "King Gustaf." The king of Sweden is actually named Carl XVI Gustaf. His given name is Carl Gustaf and he holds the throne as the sixteenth king Carl. Thus they should refer to him as "King Carl Gustaf" or, less common but technically correct, "King Carl." Since Bartlet has met the Swedish king in person and talked to him about Ellie's mathematical skills he ought to know the correct name.
Continuity mistake: When Kate Harper and Sec. Hutchinson are arguing about the hostages in Bolivia, the digital clocks on the wall behind Kate don't sync properly as the shot switches between the two of them. (00:30:15)
Character mistake: Toby says that Judge Ashland is 82, but in 5-7 'Separation of Powers' he said he was 84. (00:18:00)
Continuity mistake: When Donna and Amy are talking about 'getting' Josh, there's a cut from Amy rearranging the beer bottles on the table to a close-up of Donna standing a distance behind her. When this happens, a beer bottle is suddenly in Amy's hand with her holding it to her mouth. (00:36:30)
The Indians in the Lobby - S3-E8
Continuity mistake: When Josh is drinking water from a bottle he starts screwing the lid back on as he moves it down towards his desk. In the very next shot, however, not only is the bottle suddenly on the desk without Josh's hands anywhere near it, it also doesn't have its lid on. (00:10:05)
7A WF 83429 - S5-E1
Factual error: In the television clip introducing the bombing in Turkey, the footage almost certainly comes from a Palestinian terror attack in the vicinity of Tel Aviv, Israel. Clearly visible in the frame is a Magen David Adom (Israeli Red Cross) ambulance marked with the Hebrew word "Dan" - a term for the area around Tel Aviv. The vast majority of raging fires that MDA ambulances responded to around Tel Aviv were the result of suicide bombings.
NSF Thurmont - S6-E1
Continuity mistake: When Kate is in Leo's office with the red folder on her lap, the position of her hands changes depending on the camera angle. Viewed from in front both hands are gripping either end of the folder, from behind her hands are clasped together and rested on top of the folder.
Other mistake: All seven candidates appear on stage, however John Hoynes isn't among them. (00:40:45)
Factual error: When Will comes to Leo's office at the scheduled time of 6PM, the sun is shining brightly through Leo's window. Since this is the day after the State of The Union address which is mid-January, it would already be dark in DC.
The Crackpots and These Women - S1-E5
Other mistake: When the President and his staff stop preparing for his upcoming press conference they decide to meet again "this afternoon" implying that it is still morning. In the very next scene Sam meets with the representative from United States Space Command he tells Sam that at 6:35 AM local time UFO's were detected over Hawaii. That's not possible. Hawaii is 6 hours behind Washington D.C. If it were noon in Washington, it would only be 6 AM in Hawaii, 35 minutes before the time the gentlemen mentioned.
Take Out the Trash Day - S1-E13
Continuity mistake: This episode takes place in early 2000. 7 or 8 months before the midterm. When Bartlet tells C.J. to drawer the sex education report until after the midterm she exclaims, "next year?"
