Answer: Scrubs is filmed on location at North Hollywood Medical Center, a real decommissioned hospital located at 12629 Riverside Drive in the the North Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California; since 2007, the building is also the shooting location of semi-fictional medical series Diagnosis X. However, the location of Sacred Heart Hospital within the fictional world of Scrubs is left ambiguous. Cast and crew on the show refer to the location as "San DiFrangeles" - a portmanteau of San Diego, San Francisco, and Los Angeles that is meant to encompass a large part of California.

Question: What is the official relationship of JD and Dr. Cox? If it's a personal mentor and apprentice, why does Elliot never have one, or ever see hers? Same with Turk, he doesn't appear to have an individual mentor.

Answer: He's just a doctor that J.D feels attached to, presumably because it was Dr. Cox who made JD perform his first successful procedure in the hospital (in the first episode). It's made clear through the show that Dr. Cox feels some sort of admiration / liking for J.D too, whether he shows it or not. J.D simply looks up to Dr. Cox and admires him above all the other doctors around there. It seems that Turk and Elliot just haven't met anyone they feel the same about.

My Occurrence (1) - S1-E22

Question: In this episode, Brendan Fraser has his arm on fire for a good ten seconds. I've seen this effect before, and his arm has gotta be covered in some kind of fluid that protects his skin, or something. But it looks so good. Does anyone know exactly how it's achieved without him feeling the pain? I'm pretty sure it's not a prosthetic, could it be a false skin wrapped around his forearm?

Answer: It's coated in a fireproof gel under the flammable liquid. It can burn for 10-20 seconds without harming the actor. The bonus features in the Spawn DVD have a whole section on fire special effects if you want to see more.

Grumpy Scot

Answer: It is a play on the "Myocardial Infarction," the medical term for a heart attack.

Season 9 generally

Question: Does anyone know if the reason most of the main cast didn't return for season 9 is due to the actors' decision or was it a show makers' choice?

The_Iceman

Answer: A lot had to do with the direction Season 9 went, and some of ABC's influence. Show creator, Bill Lawrence, was approached by ABC to continue the show and he wanted to more or less do a spin off and call it "Med School" since he felt Season 8 was the last season for "Scrubs" (even Zach Braff thought that and joked about it on Twitter a few times). However, ABC rejected the idea of a spinoff, and I think ABC felt the actors didn't need to be brought back because they would be working on other projects. It should be noted, while only John McGinley and Donald Faison signed on to be regulars for Season 9, Judy Reyes was the only regular not to return. She wanted to sign on as a regular, but her character did not fit in with the show's new direction and wasn't offered a contract. When she was offered a guest spot, she turned it down. The other regulars only returned to help transition the show into something new, which because of ABC was still considered to be "Scrubs." Most of the writers also did not return.
