Running on Empty (1988)

Trivia: There were palm trees near the Popes' home in FL and there were palm trees when they stopped at a motel in SC. Palm trees are expected in tropical and subtropical climates, but certain species can grow anywhere in SC under the right conditions. (This is true to a lesser extent in the warmer zones of North Carolina.) The "Sabal Palm" (A.K.A. "Cabbage Palmetto") is actually South Carolina's State Tree. The palms at the motel looked like "True Date" palms to me but were more than likely "Sabals." (00:02:44 - 00:08:12)

Spontaneous (2020)

Trivia: Although branches and leaves were shown, a Weeping Willow tree was NOT likely to be near Dylan's grave because it is fast-growing, its extensive and invasive roots grow close to the surface, and the roots radiate outward, about three times the tree's height. If digging the grave did not actually cut into roots, disturbing the soil would be enough to damage the tree and/or the roots would eventually uplift the grave. Also, leaves and branches shed, creating a mess and even tripping hazard. (01:06:25)

Spontaneous (2020)

Trivia: Dylan's burial scene is shown through what appear to be "Weeping Willow" tree branches/leaves, which droop toward the ground. In addition to the obvious "weeping" and mourning the tree might represent, Weeping Willows have numerous symbolic meanings (far too many to mention here), such as immortality, the ability to grow through hardships, and to adapt to whatever life throws at you. Perhaps for Mara, it represents letting go of Dylan and the pain - to adjust, grow stronger, and even thrive. (01:06:25)

Abduction (2011)

Trivia: There are a few "Pittsburgs" in the United States, but there is only ONE "Pittsburgh"! Historically, there was a time when Pittsburgh was officially spelled WITHOUT the "h" (1899 - 1911) and another period where it was misspelled in some documents as "Pittsburg." The missing "h" upset a lot of Pittsburgers and it was eventually reacquired (reattached). Despite U.S. efforts to standardize "burg", Pittsburgh (and only Pittsburgh, PA!) was "given permission" to be exempt from the "burg" spelling.

Abduction (2011)

Trivia: Depending on one's perspective, the creation ("invention") of McDonald's "Big Mac" in a Pittsburgh suburb (1966-67) was a wonderful or a horrific event! Whether related or unrelated, Pittsburgh has the highest number of bars (taverns/pubs) per capita than any other U.S. city.

Abduction (2011)

Trivia: Older negative descriptive words for the city of Pittsburgh, such as "smoky" and "rust-belt", have been largely replaced with more positive ones, such as "most livable", "comeback", "up and coming", and "The BURGH." The city that was "built on steel" has been transformed, now being a major thriving city known for cultural richness and medical, educational, and technological advancements.

Abduction (2011)

Trivia: "The City of Bridges" isn't Pittsburgh's only nickname. Other nicknames include "Iron City" and "Steel City" (referring to manufacturing prior to deindustrialization); "City of Champions", "Blitzburgh" and "Sixburgh" (pertaining to Super Bowls won by the Steelers); "Smoky City" and "Dirty 'Burgh" (self-explanatory); and the more derogatory "$h!tsburgh."

Abduction (2011)

Trivia: Nathan and Karen were spotted traveling on the "Fourth Street Bridge." The odds of being on a bridge when fleeing the city of Pittsburgh (movie's primary setting) are quite high - there are 446 bridges in Pittsburgh, the greatest number of any other city in the world. [Venice, Italy previously held the record with 443 bridges.] Perhaps not surprisingly, Pittsburgh is nicknamed "The City of Bridges."

Trivia: Brad lied to his friends about how his face got banged up, saying he was jumped by some kids outside of the "O." The "O" refers to the Original Hot Dog Place, which was located close to the University of Pitsburgh's Cathedral of Learning and was very popular among the students and others. It had been in operation for about 60 years but closed on 4/18/20 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Pittsburgh native Mark Cuban (owner of the Dallas Mavericks) tried to buy the "O" but it was sold to a chain. (01:09:52)

2067 (2020)

Trivia: Ethan had to be "thrown" into the future. His wild ride from the... 3, 2, 1 countdown to landing on the ground lasts about 20 intense seconds and is worth watching - that is, if you'd like to have an idea of what it looks like getting thrown into the future. (00:28:37)

Vivarium (2019)

Trivia: The cuckoo bird was used at the beginning of the movie to point out what a parasitic bird does - secretly lays eggs in the nest of another bird species and leaves them for the different species to raise as their own. Another "brood parasite" that many people might be more familiar with is the Brown-headed cowbird. If all goes as intended, the different species, such as a Cardinal, will take care of the eggs until they hatch and continue feeding fledgings. Sometimes, "alien" eggs are evicted.

Don't Tell a Soul (2020)

Trivia: Many people are familiar with the "Stockholm Syndrome" wherein hostages or kidnapping victims develop a connection with their offenders - they identify with or feel empathy for the people holding them captive. The "Stockholm Syndrome" is also known as "capture bonding." Its lesser-known opposite (or inverse) is called the "Lima Syndrome" - the hostage-takers or kidnappers start identifying with or "feeling for" their victims; they bond. This movie portrays BOTH, but with a different crime.
