The Mauritanian (2021)

Trivia: Critics assert a writ of habeas corpus no longer functions to protect people against unlawful detention. Instead, it enables the government to ignore Constitutional rights and engage in unlawful detention of certain people indefinitely - that is, at least until a writ of habeas corpus is actually filed and granted for review. This is similar to the view that the 4th Amendment does not protect against unreasonable searches and seizures - police can violate but not use anything seized in court.

The Mauritanian (2021)

Trivia: The "writ of habeas corpus" used to be referred to as the "Great Writ." Despite its potential value of protecting against unlawful detention and indefinite confinement without due process of law, it has actually been suspended four times since ratified and detainees at Guantanamo Bay were not originally eligible to file a writ of habeas corpus because of where they were confined (i.e, in Cuba, not the United States).

The Mauritanian (2021)

Trivia: Translations for the Latin HABEAS CORPUS include "show me the body", "you have the body", "you should have the body", "produce the body", and "you shall have the body." The "body" in question refers to a person being held in detention or confinement and "show the body" refers to the judge/court being requested (petitioned) to bring the person to court to ascertain/assess the legality of the person's deprivation of liberty. No person should be deprived of liberty without "due process of law."

Trivia: After the small metal ball fell on the floor and rolled toward Grant, Grant asked Michelle, "Is that a Ben WA ball?" and Michelle replied, " Yeah." Ben WA balls are also known as "Kegel Balls." Ben WA balls are inserted into the vagina, either as a sex toy or supposedly as part of Kegel exercises to help strengthen pelvic floor muscles. (The balls are not necessary to perform the Kegel exercises and it is questionable if they even work). (00:21:05)

The Lodge (2019)

Trivia: Richard's "Woody" Jeep in the movie (set in 2019) appears to be a 1980s (1987?) Wagoneer Limited. Wagoneers were discontinued in 1991, but Wagoneers and Grand Wagoneers have returned (in different form) in 2022.

The Mule (2018)

Trivia: "Tata" (Spanish) translates to dad or daddy. Leo Sharp, the real 90-year-old drug mule working for the Sinaloa Cartel, as well as Earl Stone [Clint Eastwood] in the movie, were called "El Tata." In some languages, "tata" translates to Grandpa.

The Mule (2018)

Trivia: A "drug mule" is a person who transports illegal drugs and is also known as a courier. The term typically refers to smuggling drugs across a border via swallowing them (such as in condoms) or by inserting them into a body cavity to avoid detection/arrest.

The Mule (2018)

Trivia: It might seem bizarre to make a movie about a 90-year-old drug mule (transporter), but "The Mule" is actually based on the true story of Leo Sharp who became known as the oldest drug mule in the U.S. Whereas Leo Sharp was a World War II veteran, Earl Stone in the movie was a Korean War veteran - and Clint Eastwood ("Earl") really did serve during the Korean War.

Trivia: Lars requested (demanded) a "Mustang [Boss] 302" from the police to flee the bank robbery. Lars did not specify what year, but 1969-1972 and, possibly, 1973 are relevant to the August 23, 1973 real-life incident. The Mustang 302 was blue and it might seem easy to identify its shade, but that's not the case. Historically, there have been almost 900 colors for the Mustang's paint and there are a variety of blues. "Grabber Blue" was popular when the Mustang 302 emerged, as was "Acapulco Blue."

Trivia: After the police arrived, Hayley told Sarah, "It is not my fault my parents put a LoJack in my car." LoJack is a high-tech GPS system and theft recovery device that can pinpoint a car's exact location. LoJack ended sales in the U.S. in 2021 (will not accept any new orders but will continue to service existing connected vehicles). (00:41:50)

Hunter's Moon (2020)

Trivia: The "Deception" bottle in the movie has been altered. "Honey Flavored Whiskey" (not just "Whiskey") should be written below "Deception." The movie version bottle also has Tennessee on it, but "Deception" is from Texas. A 750 ml bottle typically costs between $30 - $40 and is 40% ABC or 80 Proof. Some people refer to "Deception" as "Deception and vibe." (00:35:25)

Michael (1996)

Trivia: An "archangel" is the highest ranking angel (to believers). It is debatable how many archangels there are/were - some assert only one (Michael), others say four (Michael, Raphael, Uriel, and Gabriel), and others believe the number is higher. Instead of being the highest ranking angel, an alternative view is archangels have a much lower rank - eighth of nine orders.

Trivia: The "little (round) blue pill" that Mikey took before going into Lexi's room and asking her if she wanted to "hook up" was a generic version of Viagra (Sildenafil) - an impotence agent. Mikey was an ex-porn star who needs to take pills for erectile dysfunction. (00:26:09)

Trivia: Lucas told Principal Fermont that Mr. Butler gave him an "F" on his midterm grade report even though he got "A"s on all of his assignments. But Lucas actually got a "B+" on his "Othello" paper. Pathological lying is a major characteristic of psychopathy (although Lucas would be diagnosed with a "conduct disorder" if he was under 18-years of age). (00:23:55 - 01:03:35)
