The Red Angel - S2-E10

Plot hole: Michael uses herself as bait to trap her future self, putting her own life in jeopardy with the reasoning that her future self will come back to save her. All well and good, except they have a backup plan with the doctor to resuscitate her if needed, meaning her life isn't really at risk, or nowhere near as much as might be implied. And her future self would undoubtedly know that, having lived through it in the past, so not swoop in to save her. Or even if she did come, would also know it was a trap.

Suggested correction: ***SPOILER ALERT*** But, as it turns out, The Red Angel that comes to save her is NOT Michael, but her mother, who would not necessarily have known about the backup plan.

wizard_of_gore

***SPOILER ALERT*** That it was her mother doesn't stop it being a plot hole since they thought The Red Angel was future Michael, and future Michael would know that present Michael wasn't really in danger so they weren't presenting a situation, _according to what they believed_, that required future Michael to act. It being the mother was a plot twist that created a motivation to act that the present people had no reason to think would exist. Basically, unless they presume a split timeline (i.e. this present is a different past than The Red Angel lived through), making a trap for future Michael that present Michael is involved in makes no logical sense.

jimba

Alternatively, Michael would have to come back, KNOWING it was a trap, to prevent the timeline unravelling.

Seniram

The point of the exercise is they were setting a trap. If it didn't work, then Michael wouldn't have to come back to "prevent the timeline unravelling (sic)", even if that were a thing - it presupposes a fixed, unalterable timeline, which goes against their attempt to send the data to the future to protect it, and thereby alter the future. Even with an unalterable timeline, it would only work if future Michael had chosen to allow herself to be trapped, but in that case why wouldn't future Michael just voluntarily come back to help? Since her being trapped wasn't a certainty, there was no reason to think she would be given that the current Michael, and therefore also future Michael, knows a trap has been set, but one that doesn't actually threaten current Michael. The whole premise of the trap, under their assumption that The Red Angel was future Michael, is completely flawed and made no logical sense.

The fact that The Red Angel was in the future, and that they had a backup plan meant that The Red Angel never should have come back in time, ever. Because the backup plan would be the recorded history, thus, she never would have died. Thus, nothing to save. Face it, everything in Discovery is a plot hole.

Corrected entry: Near the end, on the mountain, Quigley is in a standoff with one of the henchmen. Suddenly he is shot in the leg, but there is no shot heard in the film.

Correction: Don't know if it was corrected for disc, but there is a clear gunshot heard accompanying the bullet strike on my copy.

Jumanji (1995)

Corrected entry: At the end of the film Alan wins the game and all is reversed, Alan returns to the moment he first played the game with Sarah and he's a little boy again. So if all was reversed as if it never happened why does his shack still exist years later in the 2017 film?

jbrbbt

Correction: 1. This is a question, not a plot hole. 2. You can't have a plot hole in a film based on what happens in another film made two decades later.

But to answer the question, while all was undone in the real world, that doesn't mean all was undone in the game world. Those are two different things.

Captain Marvel (2019)

Corrected entry: The date on the pictures of the crash site is 06/23/1990, contradicting what Fury says (and what the movie establishes elsewhere), with the crash happening in 1989. (00:47:25)

Sammo

Correction: The date on the picture is in the classification section and refers to the date of classification, not the date of the crash. The markings however are incorrect for a classified document for multiple reasons, including not including a level.

jimba

Thanks for the specification, that is interesting! However, would something of this importance be processed a whole year after the fact?

Sammo

Yes. Whenever a "new" document is created, its classification date is the date that the classification was determined and formalized. If a picture wasn't processed for a year, or if a blowup was later made (transformations count as new), then those "new" documents would show the date that the classification officer did the review. I was for a few years a classification officer, and sometimes had to review older material that someone never bothered to have reviewed until later.

jimba

Makes sense! It's a pretty nice detail then. Thank you, upvoted.

Corrected entry: How is it Peter's spider sense doesn't work when he thinks he's talking to Fury but it's actually Mysterio in disguise? Considering he's a danger then Peter's spider sense should be going off.

Rob245

Correction: The whole point of the ending is Peter was letting his visual perception override his spidey-sense (Peter tingle), which is why Happy referred to it as not working, but Peter says it is now that he knows to ignore what he sees and listen to the tingle.

Just Like Heaven (2005)

Corrected entry: If David was supposed to meet Elizabeth for a blind date dinner at Abbey's, wouldn't David have already had met Abbey while waiting for Elizabeth to arrive for the blind date? If so, Abbey would have already know who he was when he came to her house to discuss not taking Elizabeth off life support. David would also have made the connection earlier that they were suppose to meet for the blind date dinner before she was in an accident.

Malibu Guy

Correction: It is never said the date was at Abbey's, just that Elizabeth called Abbey to say she was running late, so it could have been at a restaurant or other location. Also, when David and Jack go to steal Elizabeth's body, Jack says "this is the woman you stood up that night", meaning David never made it to the location, so never met Abbey.

Corrected entry: In one scene in the common room the song 'Boys Will Be Boys' by 'The Ordinary Boys' is playing, released in 2006, but this film is set in the 1990s, before the song was released.

Correction: The films are separate from the books - the films have never stated what year they're set.

As far as I know, the movies don't explicitly state their years, but the years can be inferred but are a mess. For example, the graves for the Potters say they died in 1981, so if Harry was one year old when they died, it was about 1991 when the first movie starts. This date match the book's dates. It does raise a problem with the 7th movie though, since we see the Millennium Bridge collapse, which wasn't opened until 2000, and the Dursleys driving a 2008 model car. I think the producers didn't say a date so didn't worry much about consistency.

jimba

Movies are separate from the books but they are set in the same time as them.

Nope. For a start we see the Millennium Bridge in the movies, which wasn't opened until 2000.

The millennium bridge being in the movie is actually a mistake, as its supposed to be 1996. I think its listed.

lionhead

No they're not. There are loads of references to the films taking place in the current time period as opposed to 1996.

Wonder Woman (1976)

Show generally

Corrected entry: It's too ridiculous that nobody, not even Steve Trevor, could recognize Diana Prince as Wonder Woman given they have the same build, sound the same, are never together and she wears those silly glasses.

Rob245

Correction: The inability to see the resemblance is just a common theme and suspension of disbelief in the such TV shows and movies, so while obviously stupid, really doesn't count as a stupidity as used here (though maybe under common mistakes). Who can't see that Christopher Reeves Clark Kent is also Superman? Or Adam West Bruce Wayne with ward is also Batman and Robin? Or Melissa Benoist Kara Danvers is also Supergirl?

jimba

Continuity mistake: When Henry, his mom and Chet are in the airport, the scene shows Henry and Chet just coming out of the gate and they have no bags in their hands. They start running away from the media with Henry's mom across the skywalk, then it shows them exiting the airport still running. Both Chet and Henry have bags in their hands.

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: We see a blue strap going over Henry's right shoulder when exiting the gate and first approaching the reporters, and after Chet grabs him at the gate we see the straps attach to a blue sports bag. We also see a fast glimpse of a brown bag on Chet's left, mostly covered by his suit coat, which is then very visible as they are running through the terminal and climbing into the limo. Chet's bag isn't visible until they are running because it is low and blocked by the people around him.

jimba

Continuity mistake: When Hedo comes in for the final at-bat, he's a right-handed hitter as always (and Henry's a right-handed pitcher so there's no switch-hitter issue). However, the shot right after shows a hitter digging in on the left side of the plate, then shifts back to a view of Hedo on the right side. The direction of the tip of the plate, which is a pentagram, makes it obvious.

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: When we see the feet of the player digging in, the point of the pentagram is to the player's right, i.e. in the direction of the camera, which is correct for a right-handed hitter. Note the angle farthest from the camera is a right angle, and a ~135 degree angle is the next closer, meaning the point is pointing at the camera (the actual point is just off screen, at least on my video). Also, the foot he digs in is the right foot, which would be the back foot for a hitter, which is also consistent with the camera being behind home plate.

Under Siege (1992)

Continuity mistake: Early in the film, a missile is fired from the ship, and it hits the satellite installation right outside the Navy headquarters (the people in the control room hear the explosion). It gets there very fast. Later in the film, a nuclear missile is sent towards Honolulu. That is supposed to take 24 minutes. Why so long, when the other missile got there much faster?

Jacob La Cour

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: The satellite facility wasn't at Pearl Harbor, it was somewhere else. Based on the map it was located on a small island and the ship was very close to it at the time the missile was fired so took very little time to get there. The people in the command center, not control room, hear the feed go out, not the explosion. Many hours later, and after a lot of sailing, when the missiles are fired at Honolulu, the ship could have been a couple hundred miles away from Oahu so the flight time at about 550 mph would be 24 minutes.

Corrected entry: There is no way that the mansion could have electrical service - it has been abandoned for years.

oswal13

Correction: It definitely could. The power companies sometimes miss disconnecting service, either by accident, incompetence, or laziness. For example, my company moved into a building a few years ago, and two years later during an inspection the power company realised of our three meters, one of the meters had fallen off their books and we were getting free power. So had the company before us I later learned. The service simply may have never been disconnected even though it was no longer being paid for.

Field of Dreams (1989)

Corrected entry: A baseball field is roughly 400 x 400, or around 160,000 square feet. An acre of land is just over 40,000 square feet, so a baseball diamond is roughly 4 acres. No farmer is in jeopardy of losing his farm for plowing under 4 acres. Most farms in Iowa are in thousands of acres.

Correction: According to the Iowa State Agriculture website, the average farm in Iowa is about 400 acres, not thousands of acres. And that means there are a lot of small ones, such as currently listed for sale in the 20-50 acres range. Plowing under 10-20% of your land in a business with small margins can definitely jeopardize the farm.

Apollo 13 (1995)

Corrected entry: Right before the command module begins reentry to Earth, a hurricane is on Earth. When the Apollo mission took place (April 11-17, 1970) there were no hurricanes, cyclones, or typhoons.

Correction: To quote Wikipedia: "On April 17, 1970, Apollo 13 was making its final descent over the splashdown zone when they spotted Cyclone Helen as they were re-entering the earths atmosphere. Mission control had been tracking the storm to make sure it did not interfere with the missions re-entry."

Factual error: The Declaration of Independence shows the "S"s are written in modern style script and not the "F"s style as in the original document.

hifijohn

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: The document shown is a correct reproduction of the Declaration of Independence and is identical to the William Stone version (identical to original though cleaned up). In the original lower case S's were written in an 'f' style (indiscernible in the movie), but the capital S's in the title are how they were written. It should be noted though that the close up version shown in the movie is not the document actually on display at the National Archives since the creases and ink marks are absent and the text isn't badly faded.
