Continuity mistake: When the "I LUV YOU" picture is viewed in Nordberg's hospital room, the photo has a vertical/portrait orientation. When Frank shows the picture to Jane, the photo has a horizontal/landscape orientation.

Factual error: At the onset of the baseball game, take a look at the Angel's catcher as Mariner Jay Johnstone steps up to bat. You will see he is wearing just a standard baseball hat under his catcher's helmet. MLB rules requires some form of certified (protective inside and out) plastic helmet for catchers, and thus this would not be allowed.

Trivia: There is a trailer to this movie with an additional gag. After Ludwig has demonstrated his image of an ideal assassin to Papshmir, he sits down with the revolver used in the demonstration which had turned out to be empty. In the trailer shot (in a closeup of Montalban) the gun unexpectantly goes off.

Trivia: Many elements of this movie, including Leslie Nielsen's character (named Frank) and the predecessor TV series Police Squad's title sequence and to some extent the title melody (also used in the Naked Gun movies) were adopted from the 1957-60 series "M Squad", starring Lee Marvin as Lt. Frank Ballinger.

Trivia: The scene where Drebbin is scolded by the mayor, and he comments about his direct action in a former case - shooting mad murderers (who turned out to be actors) - is a spoof on the first Dirty Harry movie; Clint Eastwood says something similar about a rapist, as I remember.

Mayor: Now, Drebin, I don't want any trouble like you had on the South Side last year. That's my policy.
Frank Drebin: Well, when I see five weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a man in the middle of the park in full view of a hundred people, I shoot the bastards. That's my policy.
Mayor: That was a Shakespeare in the Park production of Julius Caesar, you moron. You killed five actors! Good ones!

Question: What is the name of the song playing during the main credits?

tylerasktaylorsteckleralexdenny

Chosen answer: "I'm Into Something Good." It's the second song listed in the music credits, and if you don't read all the credits you miss a good part of the gags in the movie.

Question: I am watching "The Naked Gun" on the IFC Network, and during one of the commercials they asked a trivia question about the movie that I never saw answered. The question was, "Which famous comedian contributed a scene or gag for the movie", and the choices were Mel Brooks, Steve Martin, and one other name that I do not remember. Does anyone know the answer to this question? I can not find any information about it anywhere. Thank you.

Hawk

Chosen answer: Mel Brooks. When Frank is undercover as the ump, one of the batters hits Frank in the face with the bat. This was a suggestion Brooks had made.
