Hot Fuzz

Factual error: Angel says he went to Canterbury University. It's actually called the University of Kent or the University of Kent at Canterbury, but never Canterbury University. Canterbury Christ Church University, Canterbury's other university, only became a university in 2005, after Angel is likely to have ceased being a student.

Necrothesp

Audio problem: When Angel is having a go at Danny in the rain after Tim Messenger has been murdered, there is a shot of Danny over Angel's shoulder. In this shot you can see Angel's mouth isn't moving, but we hear him still shouting at Danny.

Ssiscool

Continuity mistake: When the police are running to the door of Somerfield, Danny is in front. Camera cuts and now Angel is arriving at the trolleys first.

Factual error: Somehow, after being visibly shot directly, at least 6 times, the glass or plastic window of the deli case does not shatter, with powerful shotgun bullets merely ricocheting off glass. [Originally, Wright wanted the glass at the deli counter to shatter during the supermarket shoot-out. However, the production decided it would be too expensive to replace because it was curved glass. To explain why the glass does not shatter, Wright included sounds of bullets ricocheting off bulletproof glass, presuming Skinner had planned ahead and made his deli out of bulletproof glass just in case the fuzz came after him. However, when the cops rammed the shopping carts into the deli counter at the end of the scene, it broke the glass anyway.]

Visible crew/equipment: When Angel stands after being shot in his bulletproof vest, the entire crew is reflected in his sunglasses. Most obvious is the boom operator with his microphone.

Visible crew/equipment: When Angel is in the Volkswagan and going back to Sandford, there is a closeup of Angel. In his sunglasses you can see the camera clear as day. (01:26:20)

Continuity mistake: When Angel asks his superior why everyone is eating chocolate cake, behind Angel you can see Danny with a literal few crumbs left on the plate. When the Sergeant replies to Angel and Danny looks up smiling, you can see there is now a lot more cake on the plate.

Revealing mistake: When Tim Messenger gets the spike dropped on his head you can tell he has been swapped with a CGI look-alike. (00:56:00)

Factual error: When Joyce is shooting the MP34 at Angel, she hits a car window. The bullet creates a nice little hole but nothing else whatsoever happens to the glass. The glass should, at the very least, smash. (01:31:45)

Factual error: After the gas explosion, the entire house is leveled. Not so much as a trace of house left other than a few bricks. There is no way that a gas explosion in a kitchen could level a house that size. (00:51:40)

Factual error: PC Angel's collar number is initially HF 777. Whilst a borough code of HF doesn't actually exist there would be a borough code for the Metropolitan Police as it is big enough to warrant one. I'll guess the HF to be for Hot Fuzz? Once PC Angel is promoted to sergeant and also transferred to Sandford his collar number changes to SF 777. Not only would the borough code not be required in the much smaller Sandford, but SF is a Metropolitan borough code for Finchley. The number would also change from 777. Three digit numbers are reserved for constables whilst sergeants would have either a one or two digit number, as in Martin Freeman's HF 90. The twin sergeants, Turner, both have collar number SF 101, when they should have different one or two digit numbers, likewise sergeant Fisher who has SF 137 and the later promoted sergeant Butterman, SF 128. It appears that the format of these collar codes is left to the discretion of each constabulary but the number of digits denoting rank seems to be uniformly accepted throughout the UK.

Suggested correction: While there's a lot of details listed in the mistake, the rank of sergeant is denoted by 1, 2, or 3 digit numbers and constables are denoted by 3 or 4 digit numbers (unless of course there are too many officers and larger numbers are needed).

Suggested correction: Police forces do not routinely denote rank by number of digits. I'm sure some forces do, however, I have personally worked in two police forces where this was not the case.

Continuity mistake: When Angel is chasing the shoplifter, he stops to look at the swan for five seconds. In this time, the shoplifter who is running away hardly gets away from Angel. With the speed he is running he should be at least twice as far away from Angel as he actually is. (00:29:15)

Continuity mistake: When diving into the pub, Danny and Nick's position is constantly changing through the dive. In some shots they are nearly on the floor, but still high in the air in the next shot. (01:34:05)

Visible crew/equipment: When the police are storming the local Somerfield shop, after pushing the trolleys into the butchers, they are attacked by others of the shops staff who are throwing fruit. In one close up shot of the fruit being thrown if you look carefully at the pineapple as it's in the air there is a white part on the bottom. This suggests that the fruit being thrown are actually plastic. Slow motion is useful to see this but not required.

Continuity mistake: The shoplifter at the station constantly changes stance depending on the camera angle; he leans against the wall, then slouches forward.

Other mistake: Sergeant Fisher is never seen wearing any rank insignia. He therefore appears to be an ordinary PC.

Continuity mistake: When Angel is talking to his superiors about the transfer, his collar changes from being not tucked in to being tucked in to his shirt. (00:03:30)

Continuity mistake: When Michael (the 'yarp' guy) has been knocked out by Angel, Danny appears and gives Angel his notepad. Angel then turns to leave twice.

Revealing mistake: When Nicholas and Danny discover the firearms collection and the sea mine at Webley's farm, they end up running from the barn along with PC Walker (and Saxon) who run to the right of screen, and Webley himself, who runs to the left of screen. Immediately after Webley disappears off-screen to the left, his shotgun barrel swings back into shot. The barrel then drops out of sight behind a low grey structure only a few metres from the door of the barn containing the sea mine, putting Webley on the side of the structure facing the barn. Presumably done to allow the 65-year-old David Bradley, playing Webley, to run only a short distance. (00:42:05)

Continuity mistake: When Martin Blower and Eve Draper get pulled over for speeding by Angel and Danny, Eve's arm alternates between being on the door frame and being by her side at the start of the conversation between Angel and Martin Blower.

Trivia: In the scene at the supermarket, Danny is looking at a selection of DVDs, but when he puts it down to chase the thief, in the bin you can see the DVD named "Zombies Party" which is the Spanish version of Shaun of the Dead.

Chosen answer: In the pub Danny demonstrates using a ketchup packet to simulate stabbing himself in the eye. Later in the film he returns Nicholas Angel's notebook, hiding a ketchup packet in it. He stabs the pocket with the notebook, causing the ketchup to leak and simulate blood.
