Hot Fuzz

Chosen answer: In the pub Danny demonstrates using a ketchup packet to simulate stabbing himself in the eye. Later in the film he returns Nicholas Angel's notebook, hiding a ketchup packet in it. He stabs the pocket with the notebook, causing the ketchup to leak and simulate blood.

Question: I just watched for the second time on Netflix and I have a question, How does Danny survive at the end of the film when the old man shoots Angel with a shotgun and Danny jumps in front of him to save his life? After the whole building blows up we see Danny lying on the bricks almost dying and in the next scene (a year later) he is fine. I have the feeling that there's a scene missing (like Netflix cut it out or something) otherwise I can't understand it.

Answer: There's no missing scene. He just managed to survive the gunshot. Simple as that. It's a comedy movie that's having some fun with action-film cliches. Character surviving gunshots and explosions that should have killed them fits right in with that theme. (Not to mention, even beyond the movie, it's not uncommon at all for people to survive gunshots like that in real life).

Answer: Just before "Auntie Jackie's sisters' brothers' boy' legs it, Danny is looking at the DVDs in the supermarket and there's a copy of Shaun of the Dead in the bargain bin...albeit the Spanish version! Only £4.99! It was released as "Zombie Party" in Spain but has the same front cover as UK release.

Answer: Jumping over fences, and "want anything from shop?" "Cornetto". That's just off top of my head having not seen either film in around 3 years.

Continuity mistake: When Doris comes into the station with Danny's birthday cake she has a pair of fake boobs over her sweater. But when she puts the cake down on the table they have disappeared, even though she was holding the cake with both hands.

Trivia: Simon Pegg is a huge fan of The Simpsons, featuring them on posters in his series 'Spaced'. He pays tribute to them in Hot Fuzz by using the name Aaron A Aaronson. Aaron A Aaronson was listed as the first Springfieldarian to vote for Sideshow Bob in 'Sideshow Bob Roberts' and was credited as one of the two biggest gossips in Springfield in 'And Maggie Makes Three'.
