The Fifth Element mistake picture

Revealing mistake: When the space ship leaves the Earth's atmosphere about to make the jump to Phloston Paradise, you can see the box around the spaceship used as part of the effects process.

Achilles

Continuity mistake: When David is waiting for the priest and Leeloo before attempting to board the shuttle to Phloston Paradise, he is chewing on the nail of his index finger. The shot changes to show a different angle of him and he is now chewing on his thumbnail with no time for him to have changed position.

Guy

Continuity mistake: When Billy trips on his equipment bag, he fires the gun in an arc that goes up and slightly left. The sparks on the alien go from the center up and to the right.

Movie Nut

Character mistake: Right before the door of the tomb closes and traps one of the Mondoshawans inside at the beginning of the film, the Priest says "hurry, you still have time". But there is not enough room left for the Mondoshawan to squeeze through.

Suggested correction: It is not said for what there is time. Maybe not to get out but to do something else - we don't know what these aliens can do, but the priest could. The Mondoshivan manages to get the key out; maybe that was meant.

Sorry, but I don't quite understand what you're trying to say. Maybe my entry wasn't clear enough. Even if the Mondoshawan did have enough time to escape, it still wouldn't have been able to fit through. It would be literally impossible. So what the Priest said was still incorrect, in my opinion.

THGhost

Continuity mistake: When Dallas hangs the coffee pot to brew, it's hung at an angle of about 20°. A few seconds later, it's righted itself to a level position and the handle changes to silver lined.

Movie Nut

Continuity mistake: When Leeloo is drying her shirt after being in the autowash, she is seen starting to put on the shirt and when the camera angle changes the shirt is on.

MCKD

Revealing mistake: Whilst Diva Plavalaguna is singing, you can see the back of her head creasing and bending. This is because the suit that the actress is wearing is made out of foam latex; confirmed by Nick Dudman, Creature Design Supervisor on the DVD featurette "An Audience With Diva Plavalaguna".

THGhost

Revealing mistake: After Korban meets Ruby and everyone leaves them alone, Korban grabs Ruby by the neck and holds him to where his feet can't even reach the ground. In the first shot, you can tell that Korban's hand isn't even applying pressure. In the next few shots of Ruby, still being held off the ground, you can now see that Korban's applying a little pressure now, but probably not as much as there should be while holding a full grown man a foot off the ground.

Sammi

Deliberate mistake: In the very first shot of Korben Dallas, his bedside clock is facing away from him, towards us. We can read it, but he shouldn't be able to because he'd be looking at it backwards.

THGhost

Continuity mistake: When the Diva is shot and she begins to fall, her arms are outstretched with her palms facing up. The shot changes to behind her and she continues her fall, her palms now face down.

Guy

Other mistake: When the evil is stopped, it is reported that it stopped, "62 miles from impact." 62 miles (100 km) is the Karman line where space begins. But NASA places the edge of space at 76 miles (122 km) because that's where atmospheric drag becomes noticeable. The evil planet might be dead, but it's on the edge of our atmosphere and will eventually crash into Earth.

ssgemt

Visible crew/equipment: When Korben pulls into the garage after leaving Leeloo with Vito, he says to himself, "I shouldn't have kissed her." When he does, a boom microphone is visible above his head along the roof of the cab.

Matdan97

Other mistake: Leeloo jumps from the ledge and falls straight through the roof of Korben's cab like it was made of paper. But a few seconds later, the police open fire on the cab and the bullets don't penetrate.

Suggested correction: They don't shoot at the roof from above, and it makes sense for the sides to be more resistant, as that's where crashes/attacks usually happen.

Audio problem: During any scene where weapons are being fired, the audio has the sound of cartridge casings falling onto a hard surface, but none of the weapons are ejecting cartridge casings to fall.

Korben Dallas: Finger, I was just on my way over to see you, when this big fare fell in my lap. You know, one of these really big fares that you just can't resist?
Finger: Ah. How big?
Korben Dallas: 5"9', blue eyes, long legs, great skin. You know, perfect.
Finger: Uh-hu, I see. And this perfect fare, she got a name?
Korben Dallas: Yeah. Leeloo.

Trivia: When composer Éric Serra showed Inva Mula, the Albanian soprano who was going to sing the Diva Dance, the sheet music for that part, apparently she laughed and said that it was impossible for the human voice to switch from high to low notes that quickly. She got her way: The part that ended up in the film is not a single piece of audio, rather it's several pieces stitched meticulously together.

Question: The Diva gets to perform only one song of her concert before she is mortally gunshot in the abdomen. Almost simultaneously, Zorg sets a time-bomb to detonate in 20 minutes. Korben removes the stones from the Diva's dead body and barely escapes from the Fhloston cruise liner before it explodes 20 minutes later. Korben and his party immediately fly at hyperspeed straight to Earth and set the stones in place with only 5 minutes to spare. If they had followed the original plan without interruption and the Diva hadn't been unexpectedly murdered, she would have proceeded with the remainder of her concert, lasting an indeterminate amount of time; thereafter, presumably, she would have to undergo surgery to remove the stones from her body and deliver them to Korben, all of which would have taken far too long for him to save the Earth, correct?

Charles Austin Miller

Chosen answer: Not necessarily. Remember that the evil sped up once he knew Zorg was dead and the team had the stones. And we don't know how the Diva was going to get the stones out.

Greg Dwyer

Answer: At the end of the Diva's big number she bows, and they close the big curtains behind her displaying the amazing view. Maybe that was it, one big epic song. Plus, she asked Leeloo to wait in the hallway for her which seems kind of rude if it's the longer concerts we think of, so I don't think she planned on being that long. The Diva definitely gave off the mystic physic vibe so maybe she knew her fate. However, that would mean that she told Leeloo to wait in the hallway knowing she wasn't coming back, and maybe even knew the big beasties would show up. Either way you are correct about the dramatic timing issues all around in this movie, not that I mind.

Nikita Moon

Answer: The Diva already knew her fate... she knew it was her last song and fate would unfold the way it did.
