Revealing mistake: At the beginning of the film where Robert De Niro gets into his car and it explodes, you can clearly see the cut where they have replaced him with a dummy. (00:00:50)

Factual error: We hear Ace in the voiceover talking about Ichikawa, a guest at Tangiers, and Ace says, "About a year ago, he cleaned out a couple of casinos in the Cayman Islands." There have never been casinos in the Caymans. (00:19:10)

Audio problem: When Nicky is at the airport having his suitcase searched by Customs, he says "If you find any cash in there we'll whack it up with ya" but his lips don't move in unison with the sentence. (00:27:50)

Audio problem: When Nicky and Frank rough up one of their debtors, Frank tells him to smarten up, but his mouth doesn't move. (00:31:55)

Factual error: About a half hour into the movie, Nicky goes into the sports book to collect. There is a cigarette machine behind him and the price of a pack of cigarettes is marked $2.50 In the 70's a pack of cigarettes was more like one dollar. (00:33:04 - 00:33:35)

Suggested correction: Not only were vending machine prices for cigarettes higher to begin with, they simply jacked the prices up because they could. Think about how much a soda costs at a movie theater or airport.

I remember buying cigarettes out of a machine in the 80's - never needed more than 4 quarters.

There was a news report from 1988 still available online where a small pack of cigarettes from a vending machine was $3.50 (14 quarters). You must have found a super cheap machine selling very small packs and you weren't buying them in a betting parlor.

Bishop73

There is a huge difference between early 70's and 88.

That wasn't the point of my comment. Whoever said they never paid more than $1 in the 80's isn't remembering right or fibbing (which is why I didn't include it in my correction). The correction is still valid because the cigarettes weren't being sold in stores. Just like one time I had to paid almost $10 for a "$5 footlong" at an airport Subway or $3 for a vending machine soda at a theater when they were $1 at every other vending machine.

Continuity mistake: When Sam is talking with Philip Greene after firing Ward, there is a shot of Sam facing the camera gesturing with his right hand not holding a cigarette, the a shot with his rear to the camera holding one, back to a shot facing the camera with empty hands again. (01:10:45)

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Sharon Stone is talking to Joe Pesci about how De Niro had his guys beat up James Woods, there are 4 security monitors on the desk behind Sharon Stone. First, the top left monitor goes out. Next only the bottom right monitor is on. Then all four monitors are off. Finally, all four monitors are on again. (01:18:05 - 01:19:20)

Continuity mistake: After meeting with Ginger about Lester being beaten up, Nicky is about to leave. Before he does, Ginger hugs him and puts her arms around his neck. In the next shot her right arm has suddenly moved and her elbow is now bent. (01:19:50)

Audio problem: When Pat Webb is reading aloud the newspaper article about Sam Rothstein, his lips don't match when he begins the sentence reading "the Midwest bookmaker", and also the audio sounds spliced in. (01:31:15)

Continuity mistake: About an hour and a half through the movie there is a scene with Nikki on a black and white TV. On the TV they are showing a photo taken by police of Nikki talking to another man holding a toothpick to his mouth to cover his lip from lip readers. That scene takes place later in the movie. The police have not yet taken that photo, we see it happen later on. (01:32:49)

Continuity mistake: In the scene towards the end before De Niro's car explodes, in the first shot when he opens the door its window is down as he gets in the car, but in the next shot as his motions are replayed, when he opens the door that window is all the way up, then it's down again in following shots. Revealing mistake: Near the end when Ace gets into his Cadillac, in the first shot facing the front of the car, there is a protective glass in front of Ace (the same width as the windshield) with the dashboard in between that glass and the windshield. Note the vertical edge of the glass is visible at the right side, and the rearview mirror's sticker on the windshield casts a shadow onto the second glass. During the stunt, the flames on the dashboard are between the glass shield and the windshield, keeping the actor safe from harm. (02:46:05)

Continuity mistake: When Joe Pesci and his brother are beaten and then buried, you see one bat and then suddenly, appearing from nowhere, three bats. Sometimes they are blood covered, then clean, then blood covered again. (02:47:30 - 02:48:25)

Continuity mistake: When Joe Pesci and his brother are beaten at the end, Dominick is thrown in the pit and facing one direction, after Joe Pesci is beaten and thrown on top, Dominick is facing the opposite direction than he was originally. (02:48:30)

Revealing mistake: In the scene where Joe Pesci is beaten in the corn fields, if you look closely at the bats you will see them bend ridiculously on impact with his body. Foam bats anyone?

Continuity mistake: When Remo Gaggi is talking to Andy Stone about Ace cussing out the Board, there's a pack of cigarettes beside Gaggi in his car. The camera angle changes to show Stone's face, who is outside the car, and when it flips back to Gaggi, there is a Zippo lighter in place of the cigarettes. The camera goes back to Stone, and when it comes back again, the Zippo is gone and the cigarettes are back. And to top it all off, not once did Remo smoke in this scene.

Continuity mistake: When Joe Pesci is beaten and then buried - look at the blood on his chest. In one shot it is all over - the next it is just a smaller patch.

Continuity mistake: When Joe Pesci is stabbing the guy with a pen that insulted Ace, the pen is shown without blood after there was significant blood on it the cut before, then it goes back to having blood on it.

Nicky Santoro: Fuckin' bosses. I mean, they're smokin' their Di Nobilis and they're eatin' trippa and fuckin' suffritt', you know, fried pigs guts? While, if I wanna talk private, I gotta go to a fuckin' bus stop.

Question: Why would Sam's life be threatened by the Mafia bosses if they find out that Ginger and Nicky are having an affair? I know it's mentioned that they hold marriage in high regard but isn't Sam the victim of being cheated on by his wife and betrayed by his friend? I can only come to the conclusion that they wouldn't approve of a man letting his wife sleep around but still, that seems presumptuous and excessive even for the mob. (02:22:10)

Answer: It's also possible that the "bosses" would be concerned that a rift between Nicky and Sam could bring public (police) attention to the criminal activities going on behind the scenes. These are, after all, two very egotistical individuals.

Answer: Concern about their affair probably has nothing to do with "mob morality" but with the possible complications and unwanted attention that Nick and Ginger, who is a volatile and unpredictable alcoholic and drug addict, could cause for the casino operators, who are being investigated by the F.B.I.
