Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

Question: How exactly does an escaped male mental patient who's posing as a woman a) work as a police officer without having violent mood swings most of the time, b) acquire money for breast implants and c) avoid a single physical examination that would have exposed his penis?

Answer: Just because someone has been institutionalized doesn't mean they have mood swings. If this was a manic episode (which it appears to be) there wouldn't be any swings at all. Just manic all the time. It wouldn't last forever, but its different for everyone. As for the money, plastic surgery can be financed! and we don't know if s/he had money stashed away beforehand. And for the last question, I just don't know. Not very likely, but some people get through lots of physical testing that shouldn't. Possibly documents were forged? Just speculation on my part.

Kimberly Mason

Answer: The money came from her pro football career, She stole an identity to become a police officer.

Question: When Ace imitates Scotty from Star Trek after Melissa tells him to leave the tank, did he say he didn't have the time or he didn't have the power?

Answer: He says, "I just can't do it, Captain. I don't have the power!"

Question: In the UK (Region 2) version of the film, the scene in which Ace pretends to be Hans the dolphin trainer was removed. Can anyone tell me the specific reason why it was removed? Also do any other versions around the world (notably US and Australian versions) remove the scene?

Lummie

Chosen answer: That scene was cut originally by the director Tom Shadyack because the scene did not support the story and thought it slowed the film down. (And the scene was cut from the US version as well.) It was added back later in TV versions of the film. Fan enjoyed the scene so much they asked it be put back in the film version. I know the DVD has it because I own it. It's hilarious!

Question: Why can't Ace just ask every football player to show their rings to him instead of just going through all that trouble tricking them while investigating?

Trainman

Answer: If people catch on to what he's doing, it could possibly tip off the culprit and give him time to hide evidence. Also, it's a silly movie and this is about comedy, not logic.

raywest

Question: When the animals come out of their hiding places in Ace's apartment, and he kneels on the floor, what species are the birds perched on his shoulders? The mostly green ones.

Answer: They appear to be Nanday Conures.

Question: Why would Einhorn kill Roger after finding out that Einhorn used to be a man? Roger didn't know that Einhorn used to be Ray Finkle, only that, as Ace put it, Roger found Captain Winky.

Answer: We don't know that's all Roger discovered, and even so, that could have been the start of Roger figuring out the truth. Einhorn didn't want to take the chance.

Question: Do the laces being in really make that much of a difference, or is it just Finkle projecting blame?

brianjr0412

Chosen answer: Both. Finkle is obviously trying to blame someone else for the missed kick, but kickers do have specific positions, circumstances that help their accuracy. Some kickers kick barefooted, others have a special kicking shoe, others have specific positioning of the ball.

Question: What was in the package that Ace was carrying at the very beginning of the movie when he deliberately breaks it?

Trainman

Answer: We're never told. Nothing important since it was just a ruse to snatch the dog.

Brian Katcher

Question: As we learned later that Lt Einhorn killed Roger Podactor, how did Einhorn get out of the big apartment after murdering him without being seen? The manager who is at the crime scene doesn't seem to recognize her.

adamjustus

Answer: The old lady said that she heard a scream and called the police. That could easily leave several minutes when she could escape through a back exit or merely hide in the building until after other police get there and said she just arrived. There is no reason to assume that the manager knows everyone who comes into the building, especially if she had only been there a few times.

LorgSkyegon

Chosen answer: He's seen driving a 1987 Chevy Caprice and a 1972 Chevy Monte Carlo.

Bishop73

Question: Although they only show Ray Finkle/ Lois Einhorn exposed to the cops, what exactly would be his/her comeuppance? Would he/she be sent back to Shady Acres Mental Hospital or to a state prison?

Answer: That would depend entirely on how she and her lawyer chose to plead, and what the judge and jury decided. It's outside the scope of the movie.

Question: How did the guy at the very start know where Ace went? He was back at his car which was parked blocks away, before the guy even realised that the dog had been taken.

Answer: Ace made a very conspicuous exit, either obviously hiding *something* under his shirt, or with the dog's head poking out. So, the guy could have just asked if anyone had seen which way Ace went, and a lot of people would have been able to oblige.

Audio problem: At the beginning, when they steal the dolphin, you hear the peel-out sound effect as if the truck was on a paved road, but they were on grass. (00:07:15)

Lois Einhorn: Listen, pet dick. How would you like me to make your life a living hell?
Ace Ventura: Well, I'm not really ready for a relationship, Lois, but thank you for asking. Hey, maybe I'll give you a call sometime. Your number's still 911? All righty then.

Trivia: The dolphin was trained to retrieve many objects that were thrown in a pool at SeaWorld Miami. There were maybe 12 -16 different shaped and weighted items that she learned to pick up and place on the side out of the pool and water. One of the objects and the most important was a black rubber gun. Every single time the only object she would not recover was the gun.
