Deliberate mistake: When Sam and Frodo are in the field with the scarecrow, you can plainly see a car cruising past in the distance, from right to left. Further comment - there are two different shots which show the car moving from right to left. One starts at the top right distance, and in a shot a few seconds later the car has traveled down the road a bit and is more easily visible. Complicating matters is that the dust thrown up by the car looks similar to smoke from a chimney in the right distance, making some people think it is just the chimney. But chimneys don't move, and the smoke from the chimney is separate from the moving vehicle. [It is deleted on the DVD, but you can still see an obvious bit of image fakery on the hill just left of the smoking chimney. One can see the hill, tree, and surrounding area move up and down and shimmer slightly where someone has done a cut and paste to cover up the auto. The "car inclusive" scene appears on the National Geographic documentary, "Beyond the Movie The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring." Also, watch the music documentary on the Extended DVD - when it shows this scene the car is still in it. Bizarrely, in his commentary Peter Jackson said he never saw a car and doesn't know what people are talking about, but the production/post-production team say in their commentary that despite not thinking anyone would be able to see it, they took it out anyway.] (00:42:55)
Deliberate mistake: During the finale, the backround looks like a sunset and there is a big door in the back. Watch closely and all of a sudden from one camera angle to the next (it's right after the big puff of smoke), the background changes to an elaborate background of layers of hearts, the door is gone, and there are about 60 more extras onstage. During the DVD Baz explains that they filmed the scene with both backgrounds and it just so happened that the beginning was better with one and the end was better with the other, so they put the puff of smoke in there to distract the audience so that they wouldn't see the change.
Deliberate mistake: During the "breaking up" scene with Jim and Michelle when they're inside the cabin, her hair is crimpy, but when she walks outside and gets into her car, her hair is straight. This is because Alyson Hannigan filmed this particular scene during a break in the filming of a "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" episode. (01:15:40)
Deliberate mistake: In one of the dogfight scenes a Japanese Zero crashes into a tower. It's a quick shot, but you can still see that what crashes is an American P-40 with Japanese markings.
Deliberate mistake: When Boo laughs repeatedly while playing hide-n-seek with Sully in the men's room, nothing happens to the electricity - no surges as with all other times she laughs. [In the audio commentary by the directors, they explained that it would've been distracting if an energy surge occurred every time Boo laughed, so they simply didn't address the issue. A reasonable course of action, but still a mistake.] (00:37:30)
Deliberate mistake: The 'NNN' news program shows a picture of some animal crackers in Frank's stomach. The problem is, they are still all in one piece and are pretty big. I don't think Frank would swallow them whole.
Deliberate mistake: In the shot near the end of the film where Donnie grabs the keys for the station wagon, you can see a Blockbuster Video member card in a cup. That card design wasn't used until the mid to late 1990's. This movie is set in 1988. Deliberate as it's a product placement, but still wrong. (01:37:10)
Deliberate mistake: After Carmen rescues Juni on the boat/sub, he accidentally re-engages the autopilot and they submerge. In the next shot as two Thumb Thumbs jump off their speedboat, the name, 'Donzi', that is written across the side of the boat, is backwards. This shot is flipped. (00:24:10)Super Grover
Deliberate mistake: When Boyd has saved the Vice President's life after chucking him into the water, Boyd looks down at the VP who is being dragged out. Suddenly, there is a picture taken that appears in papers, but there was no press or person on the bridge where Boyd is with a camera, so where did the photograph come from? (00:06:55)The-Immortal
Deliberate mistake: There is no way Ichi's blade could have cut the one man vertically in half, as shown in the movie. The blade is only a couple of inches long, not nearly enough to slice through the man. When we see the blade shooting through the back of him, it is obviously a different, longer blade.
Deliberate mistake: When her father jumps on the brakes, they lock up, even though the car is supposed to have ABS, which is supposed to prevent this from happening.
Deliberate mistake: When the list of the KIA during the raid is showing, the name of Matt Rierson is up there but he died 3 days later from a mortar attack on the base. (02:11:50)
Deliberate mistake: When Shorty is showing Cindy some moves and they are doing the "Right, left, right, left" move, you can see three people walking right behind them. Then, suddenly, the people are gone without the scene being cut. The director has simply just overlapped the scenes while they are doing the moves. (00:08:40)Mortug
Deliberate mistake: According to the DVD version, the Army of Anubis roars in ARABIC. Rather strange for a monstrous army of an ancient Egyptian god... (01:44:15)
Deliberate mistake: The French NATO rescue team is flying an old, Russian-made Mi-17 helicopter which is not in service in France. It was probably rented in Slovakia where most of the film was shot. The Mi-17 is easily distinguished from the French multi-purpose helicopter Puma: the Mi-17's landing gear is supported by huge rods, its side windows are round, and it has a sleek boom with the tail rotor on the left side. The Puma has smaller gear support, rectangular side windows, and a thicker boom with the tail rotor on the right side. (01:15:42)
Deliberate mistake: When Mark is catching a cab outside "JFK" airport, the cars are driving on the left hand side of the road - if they were in America they would be going the wrong way (the director points out in the commentary that this shot was filmed in London to save money).
