Seven Brides for Seven Brothers picture

Corrected entry: At the end of the movie when the couples are turning around to check with the approval of the fathers, why do Gideon & Alice turn around? Her father is the man marrying all of them.

Correction: How would you or anyone act if five men were holding shotguns to your back? Who can say if this is strange behavior?

The Caine Mutiny picture

Corrected entry: At that time, no US Navy warship could steam in a circle tight enough to cut its own tow line.

Correction: It should be noted that author Herman Wouk actually served as a watch officer on the class of ship in question, and therefore would be in a position to know.

White Christmas picture

Corrected entry: Vera-Ellen was a great dancer and decent actress. She couldn't sing well enough for the movie, though. All of her singing parts are dubbed with another singer's voice. In fact, her part in the song "Sisters" is actually sung by Rosemary Clooney - who sang both parts.

Zwn Annwn

Correction: Incorrect, a woman by the name of Trudy Stevens was the vocal dub for Vera Ellen.

The Sisters song was actually Rosemary Clooney who had sung both parts. For all the other songs it was Trudy Stevens. The only time Vera Ellen's voice is heard is when they got off the train, they all sung the first verse from the song Snow.

Rear Window picture

Corrected entry: The drainpipe running down the building where the Thorvalds live, the one between the living room windows and the bedroom windows of the block, becomes at least 1 foot (10cms) wide at least three times through the film, and changes to a gingery colour, almost as if it has become a plank of wood standing against the wall. It also has a pipe or something running into it in a couple of shots, just above the Thorvalds' bedroom window, but as this would be the "dog" couple's bedroom, there shouldn't be a pipe coming down from there. At other times the drainpipe just looks like an ordinary drain pipe. Even though we are not meant to be looking at anything but the activities through the windows, the drainpipe is very evident in many shots as the action frequently moves over it into the adjacent rooms. (Visible in the remastered video version and others.)

Correction: The 'gingery wood' against the wall is actually the window frame from inside Jeffries window you see, it is open and the position of thew frame looks like it's against the wall on the other building opposite.

Sabrina picture

Corrected entry: In the scene where Linus is showing David the plastic, Linus borrows David's lighter and lights it under the plastic sheet and says "Doesn't burn. Doesn't scorch. Doesn't melt." But when he asks David to taste it, you can see a black mark when the lighter has scorched it. Linus then walks across the room and put the plastic back into it's holder, the black mark is mostly gone but you can still see a smudge. Later at the party Linus is doing the flame test again for a roomful of men, the same thing happens, he puts the plastic to the flame and it scorches.

Correction: That's not a scorch - it's a soot stain from the old fashioned fluid and wick lighter.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea picture

Corrected entry: If you look at the sub in its side shots, the lights on the side appear to be a smiling face.

Correction: How is that possibly trivia?

Dial M for Murder picture

Corrected entry: Early in the film, Grace Kelly is talking to Bob Cummings about their extra-marital relationship and blurts out "Oh, Bob." even though Bob Cummings' character's name is "Mark Halliday."

Correction: I think it's Grace Kelly's accent that just sounds like she said "Bob" but she actually did say "Mark".

Mozzie-6

Correction: Tonight, I heard "Bob" for the first time. Then I checked the CC. Nothing. I played it back a couple of times: "Bob." And then I played it with my eyes closed-just listening, and it sounded like it could be "Mark." But since I wasn't thinking about it when I heard it the first time tonight, I'm leaning towards "Bob."

She does say "Mark." You can hear the "mm" at the beginning. She doesn't have a hard "k" sound at the end though, she has a very soft "k" sound like she did at the end of the word "drink."

Seven Samurai picture

Corrected entry: When Kikuchiyo impresses the Samurai by catching a fish, it's rather obvious that it's a dead fish that he grabs out of the water. A live fish would flop around and be gasping for water, but the fish he holds is completely motionless. Obviously this was done because it actually is QUITE difficult to catch a live fish in water.

RJR99SS

Correction: The sequence was shot with live fish, as detailed in the extras on the Criterion Blu-ray release.

Gojira picture

Corrected entry: When it shows the people run down the alleyway, and Gojira walks by, you can see two people run out in front, look at the camera, and really quickly lean up against the wall.

Correction: First of all, the people are too far away and dimly lit to see where they are looking. When they run into the alley, it is choked by fallen people. It is a natural reaction for them to flatten themselves against the wall to make a less visible target.

Them! picture

Corrected entry: When the radio operator on the 'Viking' is calling for help, an officer can be seen in the background standing calm and rigid in the middle of a pack of giant ants overpowering the rest of the crew...

Correction: Rather than the officer "standing calm and rigid", he's supposed to be dead and being held by the mandibles of a giant ant.

Johnny Guitar picture

Corrected entry: In a scene towards the end of the film Vienna and Emma confront each other for a shootout. The posse has gathered to watch and when "The Dancing Kid" objects to Emma's intentions of killing Vienna, he runs toward Emma and is shot by Emma between the eyes. There is no blood, just a mark on the temple, then he falls to the ground. In the next shot we see the wounded man trying to get up - unlikely. In reality, a head shot is nearly always fatal: at the very least, the person is unconscious.

keiko

Correction: Actually, in reality a head shot is not nearly always fatal. People have tried commiting suicide and neither killed themselves, nor been unconscious. Especially with lower powered guns used in the "Old West" which didn't have nearly the stopping power of modern weapons.

Brigadoon picture

Corrected entry: Since the modern sections of the movie are set in the mid-1900s, the people in Brigadoon (who are 200 years behind the rest of the world) must be from the mid-1700s. However, when Tommy and Jeff try to pay for food with a modern coin, one of the vendors says "What did he give him, a hunk of uranium?" There is no way he could have known about uranium, which wasn't discovered and named until 1789.

Correction: Actually, it's Jeff who asks Tommy, "What did YOU give him, a hunk of uranium?"

On the Waterfront picture

Corrected entry: In the famous 'I coulda been a contenda' scene, Brando is on the right side of the taxi, ie. behind the driver, Steiger is on the left. Steiger decides not to kill him, tells the cabbie to stop and tells Brando to get out. We then see the cab from the outside as Brando gets out on the left - Steiger's side.

Correction: Taxicabs of that era typically had extra space between the front and back seats, to allow passengers to exit onto the sidewalk without having to exit onto the street or inconveniencing other passengers.

Creature from the Black Lagoon picture

Corrected entry: When the scientists go into the black lagoon, their boat is named Rita. Their lifeboat is also named Rita. All boats are given different names, so it would be impossible for the lifeboat and the boat to both be named Rita.

Correction: The lifeboats on the Titanic also had Titanic on them. It is simply to show where the lifeboat came from.

Correction: There is no law requiring boat owner to give each craft a different name. I bought a boat off someone who named the boat their mother's name. The new boat that replaced the one I bought was christened with the same name. And we were at the same lake.
