Revealing mistake: In the scene of James' wheels sparking while passing Tidmouth Sheds, a metal rod is igniting the sparks from his wheels.

Other mistake: When Gordon leaves the station, he has two brake coaches, even though express trains are suppose to have one.
Visible crew/equipment: When Bill runs beside Boco, you can see a camera moving out of the shot. (Visible in HD full screen version).
Visible crew/equipment: When Thomas races through Elsbridge station, you can see a hand drop in and out of the shot on the top right.

Continuity mistake: James and Edward are on the mainline at first, but then they overrun the platform at Dryaw station, which is on Thomas' branch line.
Audio problem: In some American home video releases, when Thomas climbs Gordon's Hill, the music and sound effects are briefly muted and a voice says, "Look out for the train." The voice can still be heard in some other releases, but the music and sound effects are not muted.
Continuity mistake: When Thomas is organizing the trucks, in a second close-up of a truck, the background disappears in mid-sentence.
Other mistake: In a close-up of Thomas, Annie and Clarabel are nowhere to be seen.

Other mistake: When Gordon is sent to the siding after breaking down, he passes the set of points needed to cross over to the other line.
Continuity mistake: Gordon's connecting rods change position after he pulls Thomas out of the mine.
Answer: Butch the breakdown truck must have pulled Gordon's tender all the way up the rails so the breakdown train can reach it and also Butch helped to get Gordon close to the winch.
