Question: What happened to the wooden beam in Monica's apartment? I remember it being there in the first few seasons and in one episode I'm sure Ross ran into it. Can anyone tell me what happened to it? Thanks.

emma2009

Chosen answer: The beam was removed after the first season but was put back in for episodes directed by James burrows as an inside joke amongst cast and crew.

Chosen answer: It was actually a Magna-Doodle and the sketches were sometimes done by the various cast members or more often by crew members Greg Bruza or Paul Swain. Other crew members would occasionally contribute over the years, as well.

raywest

Chosen answer: Nope. Joey is the only friend who has never gotten drunk.

Brad

Answer: No, Phoebe and Monica have not kissed each other either. Ross and Monica kissed in college (we find out in series 10) - she was asleep on a bed and Ross thought it was Rachel covered by coats. Ross and Chandler may have kissed - in "The One Where Chandler Doesn't Remember Which Sister", it's implied he drunkenly kissed Monica, Rachel, and Ross, but Ross may just be joking.

Jon Sandys

Actually phoebe and Monica did for a brief moment in the London episodes. At the beginning the leave the apartment and for some reason all the girls kiss on the lips.

Answer: While filming The Whole Nine Yards with Matthew Perry, the two actors made a bet in which if Willis lost, he would have to appear on FRIENDS for free. Willis did lose, but the studio still paid him. To keep the terms of the bet, Willis donated the money to a charity.

Question: In which episode does Janice say something like, "Your heart calls out to me like a foghorn. Janice! Janice!" I've been trying to find it for ages.

msmall724

Chosen answer: That would be from season 1, episode 14 "The One with the Candy Hearts". At Central Perk, the precise line Janice says to Chandler is, "You seek me out. Something deep in your soul calls out to me like a foghorn. Jaaanice, Jaaanice. You want me. You need me. You can't live without me. And you know it. You just don't know you know it. See ya!"

Question: There is a noticeable change in the lighting in the first season compared to the rest of them, does anyone know why this is?

Answer: Normally first seasons of a show do not get the budget that established shows get. It is possible after the huge success of season 1, the show got a better budget and better lighting.

Question: What is the title song (the one that comes in and all the friends are dancing etc.) who sings it and what is it called?

Answer: "I'll be there for you" by The Rembrandts.

Question: I don't remember the episode, but I think it was in season 6, there is reference where someone calls someone else "Tennille." Who's that?

Answer: It's from 6x25, TOW the Proposal: Part 2. When Joey enters Central Perk dressed up like a yacht captain and looking for Chandler, Rachel quips, "but you know who did stop in here looking for you? Tennille." Rachel is referring to a successful duo in pop history, Daryl Dragon and Toni Tennille. A husband and wife singing team, known as The Captain and Tennille.

Question: I, and some other people, remember an episode in which Monica's obsessive-compulsive tendencies have so annoyed her employees in the restaurant that they lock her in a refrigerator. Some other people do not remember this, and my best efforts looking through plot summaries have not turned it up. Searching with Google on Monica and refrigerator has not helped. So does someone know where it is, or approximately where it is? Thank you.

Philip L King Jr

Chosen answer: This is season 4, episode 10, "The One With The Girl From Poughkeepsie". Everyone who works under Monica hates her after she got their old boss' job in an earlier episode. She hires Joey just so she can fire him to bring the others in line, but he's enjoying the money so doesn't play along. At one point they lock her in the walk-in freezer, where she gets covered in marinara sauce. This makes her so upset that Joey relents and lets her fire him.

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: The chick and the duck died of old age sometime between season 6 and 7. We find out in season 10 the Friends told Joey they had been sent to a farm where nobody could visit, to save his feelings.

kristenlouise3

This always confused me as in S1 when Ross found out that his childhood dog died after believing that it was genuinely sent to live on a farm, Joey was one of the people looking at Ross during that realization.

Answer: The pole was removed after the first six episodes, when the series was renewed.

MovieFan612

Didn't this pole make a return in the episode when Monica hurt Ben, and Ross ran into it while mocking her for the incident?

Chosen answer: No. Monica's middle name is never revealed other than the middle initial is E.

Chosen answer: A lot of these scenes are shot over the shoulder of one or the other character, if you watch closely, the one whose back is to the camera is often a double. For the most part, they'd film one character's part, reset and have Lisa Kudrow change clothes, then film the other one's part. It's the same technique used in "The Parent Trap" (Lindsay Lohan) and a couple of Eddie Murphy movies ("The Nutty Professor" and "Norbit", that I know of).

Chosen answer: Probably the only known conflict among them was when Matthew Perry had issues with prescription drugs and alcohol; the other Friends pressured him into seeking help during the series' run. Other than that, it appears the six had a pretty close relationship. They apparently have not all been together in a long time (until the Friends Reunion on MAX), but that's largely due to scheduling issues and that some of them are naturally closer to some of the cast than others. Cox, Anniston, and Kudrow are the closest. Anniston was the one who reached out to Perry the most.

Question: Could someone please explain the red and purple poster in Rachel's bedroom that says 'Excelsior'? I just don't understand it, what's it supposed to be or say? Thanks.

Eclipse

Chosen answer: It's a reproduction of an early 20th-century advertising poster for a French sewing machine brand called, "Excelsior." The poster shows a close-up of the sewing machine's needle and foot.

raywest

Chosen answer: I think the only clue they give is that he is half Scottish!

Anastasios Anastasatos

In The Rumour Chandler says everybody at my school heard it: "you're the cheerleader from Long Island?" So he couldn't have lived top far away.

Question: Why does no one ever sit on the window bench, behind the desk? It seems to be there for no apparent reason, the only person I've ever seen sitting on it was Rachel. Why does no one ever sit on it?

Eclipse

Chosen answer: Unless there is a specific plot reason for someone to sit here, such as when Rachel was moping after her first break-up with Ross (after he made "the list"), it does not serve the overall story well. A character would be sitting far away from where the central action takes place, making it more difficult for them to interact with what is going on. Rachel again sits on it when she, Phoebe, and Chandler were looking for where Monica hid the Christmas presents. Rachel discovers them inside the window seat. Also, a window bench is not that comfortable to sit on, and the other furniture is far more inviting.

Question: What is the function of Rachel's/Monica's guest room's wall across the door? Isn't it just annoying to get in? I also noticed that there's a screen across Monica's door. Why are these here?

Eclipse

Chosen answer: This has been mentioned before. The wall and the screen serve no purpose other than to block the audience's view into the bedrooms from the living room. When the storyline does not require the characters to be in the bedrooms, then the stage area next to the living room is the Central Perk set, which the viewer is, of course, not supposed to see.

Question: I remember the first episode of F·R·I·E·N·D·S that I saw was probably the best one, and I would like to know which season and episode number it is. It is one where Ben says "Monka Bang," meaning Monica banged his.

Trivia: The Magna-doodle on the door in the boys apartment has a different picture on it every episode. There is usually some tenuous connection between the picture and the plot of the episode.
