Question: I know I have seen an episode where Ross is in his apartment (the ugly naked guy's one), and he is doing different stuff through the window for the girls to see (shark attack etc.), when Monica and Rachel use cutout boards of some Baywatch girls. Could someone please tell me which episode this is? Thank you.
Answer: This is from season 5, episode 17: The One With Rachel's Inadvertent Kiss.
Question: In which episode are they playing the states game?
Answer: The One Where Chandler Doesn't Like Dogs. Season 7, episode 8.
Question: Which episode has Chandler teasing Joey by dancing around Pinnochio-style and singing "I'm a little wooden boy" etc?
Question: What exactly is Matthew's gag wit? Name an episode and a line where he uses it. I really want to know.
Chosen answer: There's a behind the scenes feature on a Friends DVD that shows an example: In "The One After Vegas"(Season 6 premiere), Chandler's line was originally "I don't think they're as much dating as they are drunk." Matthew Perry thought the line wasn't funny and came up with the alternative seen in the episode: "I don't think they're as much dating as they are two bottles of vodka walking around in human form."
Answer: I think he also came up with the line, "You have to stop the Q-tip when there's resistance."
Question: How come the gang never knew about Gunther having feelings for Rachel?
Answer: He never openly expressed his feelings, but the friends also never paid much attention to him or thought of him as anything more than Rachel's one-time boss and the person who serves them coffee. Just before Rachel is to leave for Paris in the last season, she acknowledges Gunther's feelings when he says goodbye and that he loves her. She says she loves him, too, though probably not in the same way, indicating she knows what his feelings are.
Question: In a few episodes, I've noticed a small black 'Reserved' sign on the coffee table that the friends always hang out at, is this how they always manage to get that sofa every time they go to the Central Perk? I didn't know that you could call and reserve tables at coffee shops.
Question: In Joey and Chandler's apartment, there is a small sign that reads, "Five card. Charlie pays. Five to One". Can someone please explain to me what this sign means?
Chosen answer: It's a Blackjack term. A "Five Card Charlie" is when the player Hits 3 times and doesn't meet or go over 21, thus having 5 cards in front of them. It's extremely rare, so there is a bigger payoff for the player than simply beating the dealer's hand. (It's also at the House's discretion whether or not to allow them as a win, thus the sign advertised that whatever gambling establishment it was taken from DID consider it a big win with appropriate payout.)
Question: How was the relationships between Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer and Matt Le Blanc on the set? Were they as close as the ladies?
Answer: On various documentarys, it is noted that all of the cast were very close friends, to the extent that guests felt very left out during filming. To answer your question yes, they were all very close.
Answer: The actor who played Chandler's crazy roommate said that he, Matthew Perry, and Matt Le Blanc used to go to bars together at night, etc., which implies David Schwimmer didn't attend. I think Perry and Le Blanc were close friends, while Schwimmer was more of a colleague.
Question: We can see a decoration in Ross' apartment, a kind of big Japanese sword hanging on the wall, especially on Seasons 2-3-4. Can anybody give some info about that weapon? I find it really beautiful.
Answer: This is a Chinese axe called a Pudao or a Guan Dao. It's made of a broadsword, but has a much longer handle - about four to six feet. Also known as the 'Horse-Cutter'.
Question: How much do the friends make at their different jobs during the seasons? Could they afford the apartments they're living in?
Answer: Monica's apartment is rent controlled so she has no problem. Chandler has a regular job for most of the time he and Joey live together and it's clear that he pays for most of the apartment and related bills. Phoebe stays in various places where she doesn't have to pay and seems to end up in her grandmother's former apartment which may also be rent controlled (or owned by her grandmother and left to Phoebe). She is the only one whose income vs expenses doesn't really match up, although in later series she starts working at a professional massage parlour which may pay at least half decent money.
Question: The very first episode of Friends includes Rachel leaving Barry on their wedding day and coming to live with Monica. The rest of the group are already friends. But I know I've seen an episode which has Phoebe moving out of Monica's, Joey moving in with Chandler and making a move on Monica. It also shows Central Perk as a bar, before it gets turned into a coffee bar and Ross anouncing him and Carol have broken up. In which episode does this happen?
Answer: "The One With The Flashback", series 3.
Question: During the opening credits one season we see a hand gesture where they smack both their fists together twice. Does this gesture have any meaning?
Answer: On episode No. 405 "The One With Joey's New Girlfriend," Monica explains the story behind the hand gesture: "It's this dumb thing that Ross made up because he was trying to fool our parents. It's a way of giving the finger, without actually having to give it. I remember I cried the night he made it up, 'cause it was the first time that I realized that I was actually cooler than my older brother."
Question: In the UK at least, new box sets have just been released of all 10 series (3 discs per box). Does anyone know if these are double sided or single sided discs? The original DVDs were double sided, which always seemed stupid.
Chosen answer: They are double sided. Four episodes per side on 3 discs gives 24 episodes which equal one season.
Question: One of the trivia points is that the etch-a-sketch in Joey's apartment always has a picture on it linked to the show. Are there any examples of this?
Answer: Some of the things shown on the MAGNA-DOODLE are shown on this website http://members.home.nl/rody.klaassen2/STUFF/magnadoodle.html. Reportedly, they were drawn by Paul Swain, the best boy (a crew member), and though some of them had something to do with the show, some were inside jokes for the crew.
Question: In what episode does Joey try to look nineteen years old? There is a scene where he comes out dressed ridiculously, and asks if he looks nineteen, to which Chandler replies, "On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most looking like an idiot, you're easily a 19."
Answer: The first episode of the 7th season. The One With Monica's Thunder.
Question: In the earlier episodes of Friends why is Ben Gellar credited as John and Christoper Allen and then when he next appears, he is credited as Jack and Charlie Allen? Was the character of Ben played by quadruplets before the part was recast?
Answer: The twins who played Ben Gellar were named John Christopher and Charles Thomas Allen. John Christopher was the one credited initially, and the "Jack and Charlie Allen" credit was for both twins (Jack is a nickname of John).
Question: On the start around series 3 Chandler jumps into Joey's arms. It's about a stalker Joey has got. What is the name of the episode?
Chosen answer: This was, "The One After the Superbowl," a two-part episode. Brooke Shields guest starred as Erika Ford, a crazed fan of Joey's character on "Days of our Lives." She stalked him, believing Joey really was the doctor he played on the show.
Answer: The One Where Chandler Can't Cry - Season 6 episode 14.
