Show generally

Other mistake: When Clay is engaging a terrorist armored vehicle, his rifle is on safe, he fires a few rounds, then places his rifle on fire, firing a few more rounds.

Tip of the Spear - S1-E1

Revealing mistake: Supposedly in Liberia, the team takeoff in a helicopter. However, when they take off, the camera reveals the airfield, where several general aviation aircraft are parked. This is highly unlikely to be in Liberia, also the night lights seem to be somewhere in Cali (perhaps LA)). (00:27:20)

Boarding Party - S1-E3

Deliberate mistake: The Seal takes a shot with his suppressed pistol through a circular window in the hull of the ship at a hostage taker holding a hostage. When he fires through the glass it never breaks or shatters. Makes no sense how the bullet even passed through. In addition, windows in ships are really thick; it would've taken a few shots to get through and to neutralize the hostage taker. (00:33:30 - 00:34:30)

Ghosts of Christmas Future - S1-E4

Factual error: The Seals are in the briefing room and the speaker says their next target is "supplying the Taliban with the .50 cal armor piercing sniper rifles." Sniper rifles and rifles in and of themselves are not armor piercing, the only thing that is armor piercing is the type of ammunition that can be used in said rifles. Any high power rifle can have armor pricing ammunition made for it such as 7.62 Nato aka .308, .30-06, .338 Lapua Magnum, .50 BMG. A sniper rifle can use full metal jacket ammo too. (00:07:30 - 00:08:00)

Ghosts of Christmas Future - S1-E4

Audio problem: One of the target's bodyguards is watching Jason and his team board a civilian plane, and he calls his boss and says "od jechal" which means he drove away. He should've said "odlecieli" which means they flew away. Also his Polish "od jechal" is heavily accented, spoken like he's speaking Arabic or something with a strong "H" accent. There's no way he's fluent in Polish. He also could've said "od frunal" which means flew away, but it's reserved for a bird or a small flying creature. (00:29:50)

Ghosts of Christmas Future - S1-E4

Continuity mistake: Jason and his team have AKS-74U's in hand as they hit the target vehicles. Once their target escapes they start giving chase and their weapons disappear from their hands and as they're running no holster are visible with sidearms. Then once they reach the inside of a building they all have pistols in hand. Even if the sidearms were "hollywood tucked" into their pants they would've fallen out during their chase of the target. Plus military guys all use holsters. (00:33:42 - 00:35:00)

Collapse - S1-E5

Deliberate mistake: This episode takes place in the country of Sudan on the continent of Africa. The Seals go to save some teachers at the American school. The school has concrete wheelchair ramps, asphalt paving, concrete curbs, metal railings. No school in Sudan has such architecture, especially asphalt pavement, its dirt, the asphalt would melt. There is also an empty real estate post used for advertisement in the ground. Majority have roofs made of metal, not briquettes. (00:16:00 - 00:17:45)

Containment - S1-E11

Deliberate mistake: Sunny is the teams SAW (squad automatic weapon) gunner. He carries an FN MK46 which is a special operations version of the M249 SAW. The MK46 unlike the M249 only takes belt-fed ammunition from 100 or 200 round "nutsacks." On this mission Sunny is wearing a chest rig with STANAG mags and no nutsacks. He has no backpack for extra ammo either. He hands off his MK46 to the Jason whose staying behind and no nutsacks. Plus he doesn't take Jay's HK416 rifle in the swap. Usually people swap one for one. (00:31:15 - 00:32:00)

Containment - S1-E11

Factual error: When they capture the trucks they first say that there is no nuclear material. But later find that the warheads are nuclear. A Geiger counter would pick up nuclear material from a warhead or a dirty bomb. Also, they are worried about the bombs being unstable. No way are the cores unstable. The conventional explosives could be. Why wouldn't they separate the explosives from the warhead? Finally, wouldn't you scout out the bridge before driving across? There are tons of loose boards.

The Upside Down - S1-E12

Character mistake: At the start of the episode when Clay is done brushing his teeth and standing in front of the mirror without a shirt, he has no tattoos. He has been seen several times with tattoos on his arms that are not even covered by a normal T-shirt. (00:05:02 - 00:05:23)

Getaway Day - S1-E13

Factual error: When Blackburn tells Jason that something has happened with Echo team he is being summoned to the conference room and called a Lieutenant. Blackburn is a Lieutenant Commander and should not be called a Lieutenant. Lieutenant Commanders can be called just Commander but not a lieutenant. Calling him a Lieutenant would never happen in real life. (00:05:54)

Never Get Out of the Boat - S1-E16

Factual error: Clay is in a van, and he's looking at some men possibly standing guard. He uses his Eotech EXPS optic to zoom in on them. An Eotech optic is a zero power magnification optic, so looking through it is like looking through nothing. The only way it can be magnified is by adding a G33 3x or the newer G45 5x magnifier to the system. These magnifiers flip 90° and lock in place when magnification is needed or flip back when its not. Clay's rifle does not have a magnifier. (00:14:00 - 00:15:00)

Never Get Out of the Boat - S1-E16

Factual error: The team is in the briefing room, and they're being dispatched to Panatag Shoal. The picture of the island in the ops room has been modified from the original. The original real world picture shows very little vegetation. For this series they created a jungle to replace the water and sand shoal to make it fit their mission. The way the island is depicted in the series doesn't exist in reality. (00:30:20 - 00:31:27)

Never Get Out of the Boat - S1-E16

Deliberate mistake: The Seal team is dispatched to an uninhabited island in the South China sea called Panatag Shoal. In the operations room the team is briefed that there is dense jungle. When the team gets there they're walking on paths laden with dry palm trees and paths 15ft wide. Dense jungle means you're walking through thick brush and using a machete to cut it. In reality Panatag Shoal has very little vegetation - it's a natural submerged bank which is covered by sand and rises from the bed of a body of water. (00:30:20 - 00:31:27)

Never Get Out of the Boat - S1-E16

Factual error: Seals arrange their weapons and gear according to the mission they are deployed on, CQB requires short compact weapons, so they'll go with H&K 416 with a 10.4" barrel or the H&K MP7, for open terrain missions they'll swap out their uppers in the H&K 416's and swap in the 14.5" barrels. Bravo team is on a jungle op where no CQB is expected however most of the guys are rolling with 10.4." Clay is the only one with the long distance set up. Sonny doesn't even have his MK46 SAW. (00:32:12 - 00:33:00)

In Name Only - S1-E17

Factual error: In this episode the Seals are flying around on the stealth helicopters like the ones used on Operation Neptune Spear (Bin Laden op), but for some reason the Seals are using the outdated night vision goggles with 80 degree field of view and not the GPVG-18's with a 97 degree field of view. DEVGRU use the best gear, they would not be using AN-PVS-15 or 31's. On operation Neptune Spear they utilized the GPNG-18's. (00:25:00 - 00:31:10)

The Cost of Doing Business - S1-E22

Factual error: A CH-47D Chinook helicopter is shown on the tarmac with N160BE in large white letters. This is a civilian registration number, not one for a military aircraft. A check with the FAA shows it is registered to Unical Aviation at City of Industry, California. (00:26:00)

Season 2 generally

Question: This season has added the odd effect of a large puff of red smoke/dust whenever someone is shot. It is unrealistic and distracting. Wondering if anyone knows the reason for this change.

Answer: Depending on caliber the body does spray blood from .308 and up.

Answer: Only because it looks cool on screen.
