Thor (2011)

Question: Jane tells the nurse that his name is "Thor". She instantly assumes that it is spelled T, H, O, R. Wouldn't it make more sense for her to assume that it is spelled T, H, A, W? That's a much more common word.

THGhost

Chosen answer: Thor sounds nothing like "thaw" (at least, not with Jane's accent). Also, "Thor" is not an uncommon name in Scandanavian countries, and even if she didn't assume he was from there, she probably just thought it was an odd name and left it at that.

Question: In the scene where Ginny asks Harry to zip up her dress, George come into the kitchen in the middle of Harry and Ginny's kiss and says "Morning". What is that's sticking out of his ear hole/bandage?

kkaattiiee

Chosen answer: It's his toothbrush. He's brushing his teeth when he comes into the room, and sticks it in his ear for effect.

Hulk (2003)

Question: First question: Who would win, theoretically, Superman or Hulk, in a fight? Second: When Eric Bana changes into the Hulk, you don't see the emphasis on the eyes changing first as you saw in the TV series The Incredible Hulk. Why was this?

mozeus5

Answer: 1. Theoretically, the Hulk would be able to win. Superman draws his power from the sun and the more energy he expends from things such as using heat vision or fighting, will weaken him. The Hulk's power comes from his own rage. Even though the Hulk can lift 100 tons, the angrier he becomes the stronger he gets making him powerful enough to eventually lift anything heavier than 100 tons. If Superman were to fight the Hulk, he would slowly wear himself out but the Hulk would keep on fighting. 2. The only time Bruce's eyes are seen changing are at the end of the movie when some South American militia are stealing medical supplies. After Bruce tells the leader of the group that he just made Bruce angry, Bruce's eyes turn green.

Chosen answer: 1.) Superman, especially if he decided to use tactics like stranding the Hulk in space. 2.) Artistic licence.

Inception (2010)

Question: In the first class section of the plane, after everyone has woken up from the dream and the mission is accomplished, shouldn't Robert Fischer be suspicious as to why he dreamed of everyone of his cabin mates?

Allister Cooper, 2011

Chosen answer: (1) Most people forget most if not all of their dreams shortly after waking, so he probably wouldn't even remember they were there (the only thing he had to remember was the idea of breaking up the company, which the team planted very deeply); and (2) a common theory of dreaming is that it's simply your brain "reorganizing" itself, so it's not unusual to have recent people, places or events incorporated into your dreams (like the people surrounding him).

Question: In the scenes leading up to the shoot-out in the bar, the German Major says that the Captain just gave himself away. I am assuming that he is referring to the fact that the Captain held up three fingers when asking for only three glasses. I don't see how this is a give-away. Can someone please explain?

scrappy1982

Chosen answer: It is explained shortly afterwards that a real German would hold up his thumb, index and middle fingers to indicate three. Since, the major already suspects the Captain of being a spy, holding up his index, middle and ring fingers to indicate three confirms this.

Death Has a Shadow - S1-E1

Question: Near the beginning of the show, when Peter catches Meg touching the thermostat and a couple of neighbors show up, why does one of the neighbors ask if his kid is there?

Answer: Peter said all fathers know when the thermostat is turned up, which is why all the neighbouring fathers arrived. The one just wants to know if it's his kid that touched it.

Apollo 13 (1995)

Question: When Aquarius is descending during re-entry, why is the Navy preparing Search & Rescue instead of the Coast Guard?

Cubs Fan

Chosen answer: Aquarius was most likely going to splashdown in international waters; since the U.S. Coast Guard only has jurisdiction within American waters, the Navy would have to rescue them.

Xofer

Answer: Because the Navy was assigned the Search, Rescue and Recovery task for all of NASA's space program. Imagine how long it would take the Coast Guard to get to the other side of the world.

X-Men 3 (2006)

Question: Where can I get information about the mutant who clapped her hands, creating a blast of energy (I think her name was something like 'Arch light')? I've not come across her before and, though she was really under-used, she looked like an interesting character.

Answer: UncannyXmen.net is a great fan-run site with tons of information on almost all X-Men comics characters (not much on the movie ones though). Arclight's page is found here.

Red Dwarf (1988)

Answer: He had to use the toilet, but since they were in the Backward World, whatever he excreted would already be there, and go back INSIDE his body, which would be very disturbing.

Question: Which Python sings the song "Christmas in Heaven"?

Question: I was wondering if in the books, or in any other literature/discussion about the story, whether Professor Kirke is Mr. Tumnus' father? They certainly looked like each other in this movie and it seemed to be implied during the scene in the credits.

Answer: The professor is not Tumnus's father. In the credits scene, the professor wants to get back to Narnia because he was there as a boy (in the book "The Magician's Nephew").

Question: Who sings the theme tune? I know that it's called 'There Might be Giants' but that's all. Thanks.

Answer: Actually, the band is called They Might Be Giants; the song is called "Boss Of Me."

Question: Can someone please explain the ending to me? Did Luke use the spell too?

s.ounder

Chosen answer: The spell was performed on Luke at some point in the past by Violet's husband. Throughout the film, "Luke" is actually Justify in Luke's body.

Xofer

Answer: Actually, as you see, the servants possessed the two children, so they didn't die right? And they both grew up to be violet and ben. Ben was ageing and became old so papa justify ended up taking control over Luke's (the lawyer) body and the real Luke was in ben's body. So papa justify and Luke had already switched bodies before the movie even started.

Question: In the scene where Will Ferrell is talking to his wife he says "They were running around like whirling derbishes, and I don't even know what that is" or something to that effect. What is a derbish and why does it whirl?

Answer: An actual dervish (not derbish) is a member of any of various Muslim ascetic orders, some of which perform whirling dances and vigorous chanting as acts of ecstatic devotion (hence the term "whirling dervish"), though in general 'a whirling dervish' is used for anyone who moves with an unfocused, almost frenzied energy.

Question: Do any important events happen between the end of Episode III and the beginning of Episode IV?

Sir William

Chosen answer: It depends on whether you choose to view the Expanded Universe (non-movie) stuff as part of the proper Star Wars "universe", but some important events include the start of the Rebellion, Han Solo rescuing Chewbacca from Imperial capture, Lando Calrissian losing the Millennium Falcon to Han, and of course, the capture of the Death Star plans by the Alliance. As of 2016 the events of Rogue One are documented on film, together with other new canonical novels, comics, TV series, etc., and the Expanded Universe has been disregarded.

Starship Troopers (1997)

Question: Am I the only one who thinks the Federation uniforms look like Nazi uniforms, especially Carl's Leather Jacket? They also have insignia on the collar, as the Waffen SS did.

Answer: This is intentional, since the government in the movie is a fascist, totalitarian one, not unlike the Nazis (this fact is played up more in the book).
