The Skeleton Key

Question: Why was the key broken off in the lock to the hoodoo room? Don't the servants use the room every few years to transfer their souls into someone else? Why break the lock to the main room you need to do your sacrifices in?

sunfox35

Chosen answer: I believe it was part of the plan to get Caroline to believe in hoodoo. Violet sent Caroline to the attic to get Caroline to witness the occurrence of the door rattling. This would cause Caroline to become curious and enter the room. Once Caroline saw the hoodoo artifacts, the idea of hoodoo becomes more real for her. They had to get her to believe in hoodoo in order for the magic to work.

Question: What was the deal with the mirrors? Are there spirits in the mirrors? Or can Violet (or whoever's body happens to be inhabited) see her "true self" in the mirror? When Caroline first spends the night, a figure, like Mama Cecile, can be seen in her little mirror. If the spirit is in the body (Violet's), why would it be wandering around? So, the mirrors expose their true identity, correct?

Question: Is the house used in this movie the same as in Forrest Gump?

Chosen answer: No, the house used in The Skeleton Key is not the same house used in Forrest Gump. The house used in Forrest Gump was a set built just for the movie in South Carolina. The house for The Skeleton Key was in Louisiana. The Forrest Gump home in Greenbow, Alabama (actually filmed in a parish in South Carolina) was torn down along with Jenny's house, which was also a set.

Question: If the children's souls were transferred into the servants and saw they were about to be hanged, why didn't one of them simply say something 'ike "Mom, Dad its me. Please don't do this!"

sunfox35

Chosen answer: They most assuredly did, but the adults were in a drunken frenzy were not inclined to take the time to listen to the unbelievable tale these two objects of extreme racism were trying to tell.

Question: If Violet could sense that Caroline did something to the sugar, how come she couldn't sense the same with her glass of tea?

sunfox35

Chosen answer: The past few days Caroline started to act weird - going for what she claimed was 'shopping', locking Ben alone, going to the attic several times, asking so many questions about the past and about Papa J. & Mama C. 's story, inquiring information about the story, investigating various facts and events, trying to test Violet (when she asked her to step into the room to see the water leak) and insisting on doing that. That arose the servants' ghosts' skepticism and they started to suspect that Caroline knows and can somehow harm or obstruct their plans. Hence, when Caroline and Violet were having dinner, Caroline didn't eat and insisted Violet adds sugar to her tea several times, that was very easy for Violet to suspect and realize that something is wrong with the sugar and Caroline might have poisoned it - she didn't sense, she figured that out as a result of Caroline's weird behavior, so she grabs the sugar bowl and takes it away. At that moment Violet basically couldn't imagine Caroline having a medicine bottle with her, running up to her tea, pouring the medicine into her cup, in merely few seconds.

Question: At the end where Caroline makes a circle around herself that she can't leave, how come at the ending she just nicely steps over the circle without trouble?

sunfox35

Chosen answer: It's because, at that point, she is Mama Cecile in Caroline's body. Had it still been Caroline, she wouldn't have been able to step over the line. Or, so the spell says.
