Trivia: As the Interceptor is pulling away from the Dauntless, in the wide shot there are still ropes between the two ships. The camera crew were caught off guard, since the sails were full, the Interceptor started pulling away sooner than expected, pulling the ropes taut, ripping off the belaying pins. Johnny Depp (Jack) was hit hard in the knee with one of those pins and knocked him to the ground. It was the only shot the camera crew had of Interceptor actually pulling away. On screen, in the close-up, Will is seen cutting all the lines. Commentary, DVD. (00:47:05)
Trivia: Elizabeth falling off the fort was filmed on a set, south of Los Angeles. Jack diving off the ship to rescue her was filmed in the Caribbean, and his actually rescuing Elizabeth was filmed in a tank in Long Beach, California. There are thousands of miles between those three consecutive shots. This is similar circumstances to the scene when Elizabeth is walking the plank and surfacing. Both were shot in the Caribbean, but with a few days in-between shots. On the commentary, Jack Davenport (Norrington) mentions Keira Knightley's (Elizabeth) little-known ability to hold her breath for two days. (00:15:00)
Trivia: One of Barbossa's pirates has a dreadlocked beard that's always on fire. There is wire with copper sockets in the ends of the dreads, in which they would insert incense to burn for the smoking effect. After every take they would have to reinsert incense and relight his beard. During the sword play, the locks in his beard would flop around, causing it to burn himself or someone else, or even light up the rest of his beard.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Trivia: While they were waiting between takes on set, the extras who portrayed the Uruk-hai at Helm's Deep started chanting, singing and tapping their spears on the ground, to the beat of their singing (probably because many of the extras were Maori, the native people of New Zealand, and the chanting was a Maori haka). This is how the idea evolved for Peter Jackson to use it in the movie. It developed into the dramatic piece of the chanting and pounding of spears, by the Uruk-hai, at the stand off in Helm's Deep. As heard on the Appendices DVD.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Trivia: In Faramir's dream, Boromir is in the boat, with water around him. The color of the water is pink, because Sean Bean's (Boromir) shirt was leaking dye into the water. Since it kept occurring in the retakes too, Peter Jackson decided to just leave it in, figuring it was a "symbolic blood-type effect." (00:31:30)

Trivia: During the location shooting at Edoras, there were very strong winds, as can be seen by the actors' hair, especially Éowyn's. He had to spend the rest of that day without them.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Trivia: When running away from the Balrog, Boromir is the first to reach the bottomless stairs and Legolas pulls him back to safety. When this piece was shot, there were many retakes, and each time Sean Bean would get pulled back by Orlando Bloom, Bean would land back onto Bloom's soft lap, while Bloom would slam back onto the hard steps with the full weight of the two of them. As a result, Bloom had bruising on his backside and legs, for some time. Bloom joked, "I gave Sean a few beatings for that, I can tell ya." Cast commentary, extended DVD. (00:36:40)

The senior prosthetics supervisor got on his stomach behind Gimli and pulled on a rope that was attached to the back of the prosthetic in order to pull the wrinkles out of Gimli's forehead and keep it in place. Art Director Ben Price is the very dead twitchy Uruk-hai that Gimli is sitting on. Commentary, extended DVD. (01:38:50)
