Judge Dredd (1995)

Question: The clones are released prematurely, one even sits up. Then the facility seems to spontaneously explode. What caused this? What happened to that one clone.

Answer: The facility only ever cloned Rico and Dredd. It had never been tested at max capacity. The equipment was also 30 years old and Rico tried to birth the clones early which the system wasn't designed for. The stress of all these things added up to destroy it.

Question: If Crouch used the polyjuice potion to be certain people, how was he able to take their voice as well? When Harry and Ron used the potion before, they kept their normal voices.

Answer: In book two it states that the voices DO change.

To quote from chapter 12 as read by Stephen Fry: "Are you two OK?" Goyle 's low rasp of a voice issued from his mouth.

Answer: This is never covered in the book either, but Crouch was a fully trained wizard while Harry and Ron are not. It's not unreasonable to think that there is a spell that allows you to imitate voices perfectly. There were candies in the last film that made people sound like monkeys and lions. A voice spell wouldn't be that different.

Grumpy Scot

Answer: In the books, the polyjuice potion changed the person's voice as well as the physical appearance of the person who was impersonating someone else. The movies made a decision to have Ron and Harry keep their own voices, presumably so the audience could more easily keep track of which one was Goyle and which one was Crabbe. The other characters using polyjuice varied on whether or not they kept their original voices. Crouch Jr.'s voice was the same as the real Mad Eye's. When Hermione impersonated Bellatrix LeStrange, she sounded like herself. This really comes down to movie-making logistics. If Crouch kept his own voice, then the movie makers would have had to dub David Tennant's voice over all of Brendan Gleeson's dialogue.

Answer: In the movie Barty Jr (as Moody) imitates voices, including Hagrid's. When Harry returns from the graveyard and Barty Jr takes Harry into his office or living area.

Last Action Hero (1993)

Question: Why were all the women wearing latex outfits in the movie? Is it supposed to be a futuristic society or what?

Answer: No, it's a movie world. All the women are beautiful and wear very tight clothing. There's a cartoon working for the police, all phone numbers begin with 555, guns make cars explode etc, etc. Basically, every action movie cliche you've ever seen is true here.

Predator 2 (1990)

Question: Right before they get killed, what are the Jamaicans trying to do to the guy hanging from the ceiling?

Answer: They are doing a voodoo ceremony to take his heart out and sacrifice it. It's a terror tactic to warn other dealers off their turf.

Question: When Aunt Marge starts to inflate, Uncle Vernon starts kind of whining. He's supposed to be really tough, why doesn't he growl or yell instead? Or at least try to save his sister?

Answer: He is a big bully. He isn't tough at all, he just acts that way to Harry. When confronted by something scary, he wusses out!

The Thing (1982)

Question: Was the huge monster McReady encounters, and subsequently blows up, the actual "default" form of the Thing? After all, the correspondent DVD chapter is titled "The Real Thing". Yes, they do say that the Thing could've imitated millions of different lifeforms, but it must've had a form to begin with.

Answer: At the end, the large creature presented itself as an amalgam of beings it had absorbed-part Blair, part dog, and various other beings with tentacles, insect-like legs, and a worm-like body. I don't believe that we really ever see what its true form is, if it has one.

Erik M.

Answer: In the book, it was vaguely humanoid with blue rubbery skin, a head of writhing tentacles, and 3 glowing red eyes. There is a picture of it in Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials by Wayne Barlowe.

The Good Son (1993)

Question: Why would Henry do so many evil things to his own family?

Answer: Henry apparently has what is called a "conduct disorder" - the term used for kids below the age of 18 engaging in what would be (and most likely will become) a diagnosis of sociopathy/psychopathy (antisocial personality disorder) when he becomes an adult. He is "evil", highly manipulative, self-centered, without remorse or other true feelings, and probably incapable of forming loving or long-term attachments. Many sociopaths are believed to have above average intelligence and make good imposters, capable of fooling others because they come across as "charming."

KeyZOid

Answer: Because he's nuts!

General questions

I recall seeing a movie as a child that scared the Dickens out of me. It was probably the early seventies, and it involved a lot of scenes where people were walking in grassy fields and every few hundred yards were large holes in the ground leading down to a network of tunnels where monsters lurked. It was supposedly set in the future. The premise was similar to the Sleestacks (?) from Land of the Lost, however, it was a theatrical release originally and was fairly well done. Does anyone have a clue as to what movie this is?

Answer: Sounds like the original Time Machine. The holes led to the realm of the Morlocks.

Minority Report (2002)

Question: Why would a cop use a handgun with a design that's over 50 years old, the Beretta 9000 has only just come into service at this time?

Answer: Cops today use .45 Kimber handguns which is based on the Colt M1911. That design is over 70 years old. The Beretta 92F pistol and M16A1 rifle designs used by the US Army are 30 years old.

General questions

I'm looking for the title of a film I once saw, a few years ago. I can only remember a couple of scenes/details from it though. All I remember is that the main character is on the run from the police. In one scene, he is racing down a street in a truck and he crashes into a baby's pram. He is mortified, thinking he's killed a baby, but in fact it turns out that all that was in the pram was cans of beer. The only other scene I can remember is a scene where he goes into a shop, and the shopkeeper agrees to hide him from the police. When a female officer enters the shop and asks the shopkeeper if he has seen the main guy, the shopkeeper says no and then makes some comment about why female police officers aren't called 'officeresses' (the shopkeeper guy is quite a creepy character). That's all I can remember of the film I'm afraid, other than the fact the main guy ends up pretty badly battered at the end of the film. It's not much to go on I know, but if anyone could tell me what film this is I'd be really grateful. Thanks.

Star Trek (1966)

Answer: Not every Vulcan male has an arranged marriage. For example Sarek, Spock's father, was not promised and was thus free to marry a human, Amanda. This is part of the reason Spock was so resentful towards his father.

The Rock (1996)

Question: I never really understood the point of injecting the needle into your heart if you come into contact with the chemical. Doesn't the chemical eat away at your skin? If so, does the injection somehow instantly stop the gas from eating away at your skin? Or did I just imagine the whole thing about it eating your skin?

Answer: The whole inject-it-into-your-heart thing is crap. Atropine is like super-adrenalin. It sends you into overdrive, forcing your body to stay alive despite the nerve gas. It is normally injected into the buttock. Injecting it directly into your heart would probably kill you faster than the nerve gas, assuming you could even get it into your own heart.

General questions

I am trying to remember a film I saw on Sky 1 a few years ago. It dealt with a cop or ex-cop or somebody of that sort, and an evil guy with a very bad blonde mullet. The only scenes I remember are as follows: there is a small blonde girl standing over a well with a barb wire crank running across it, and the evil guy tells the girl to hold the wire and she her hand starts to bleed as one of his minions cranks the wire; then she looks into the camera; the other is where the guy, he has dark short hair and is crucified on something. He is bloody throughout most of the movie, but for the life of me I can't remember its name.

Answer: Cyborg with Jean-Claude van Damme.

Not Sharpening but Tempering as the lasers heat up the wrist knives thus making them stronger.
