Combat! (1962)

The Hell Machine - S3-E28

Factual error: The panzer caps worn by the German tankers (and later by Saunders and Gavin) are old-style pre- and early-style caps that were no longer issued later in the war.

Scott215

The Werewolf - S1-E5

Factual error: The story is set during one of Chicago's worst winters, complete with snow and ice, but the footage of the 747 Carl Kolchak is flying on shows the plane taking off from an airfield without snow or ice to be seen.

The Twilight Zone (1959)

Operation Firefly - S1-E3

Factual error: When Steve plays the guitar, his bionic right hand is strumming very fast, and the sound of the guitar goes from a low-pitch sound to a higher-pitch sound. Going up in pitch relies on the chording hand (Steve's left) and can only happen when the guitarist moves his chording hand up the guitar neck to the guitar's body.

Chopper - S1-E15

Factual error: Kolchak's narration has the episode's events begin in February in Chicago, but there is no snow, nor indication of cold weather.

Scott215

Factual error: The German SS soldiers salute superior officers with "Sieg Heil!", which means, "Hail Victory." The proper salute would have been "Heil Hitler!", which was required for all branches of the German armed forces after the July 20th, 1944 bomb plot against Hitler.

Scott215

Factual error: A toy modern four-door automobile and a clear plastic ball can be seen as the children play when the Burgermeister comes in on his wheelchair. Both unlikely for a story set (presumably) in the 1800's, at the latest.

Scott215

Factual error: During Kris' "A Kiss a Toy" musical number, one of the kids has a Tommy Gun. Since the story is, at the latest, set during the 19th century and the Burgermeister's troops are armed only with spears, swords, and knives, a Tommy Gun should not be in this story.

Masada (1981)

Show generally

Factual error: During some scenes where cavalry is used by both the Romans and the Zealots, some saddles show stirrups attached, which weren't available until centuries after the events of the Masada siege.

The Goldbergs (2013)

Cocoon - S8-E9

Factual error: Adam says it is January 27th, 1980-something, and he is watching the new movie "Cocoon", but the movie was released on June 21st, 1985, not in January.

Scott215

Factual error: When Austin rounds the corner of the London street leading the band and the dancers, a large, white warehouse-looking building is reflected in the right front fender of a blue car at the lower left of the screen. Not a 60s London building - most likely it is a building on the studio lot.

Hogan's Heroes (1965)

Suggested correction: "Hogan's Heroes" is an American television show produced for an English speaking audience. The whole show is shot in English! Did you expect Schultz and Klink to speak German and LeBeau to speak French?

I have seen MANY instances in the show where German characters are speaking actual German phrases (many quite accurately, by the way) and ranks of fellow German soldiers. When the German characters are addressing English-speaking characters in this American-made show, you do expect them to speak German-accented English, however, when German-speaking characters speak German to each other, one expects them to use the proper address and vernacular Germans would use and not mix in other languages. In this case, the SS guard did not know a lick of English when he was questioning some prisoners who were out their barracks, but addresses Sergeant Schultz as "Sergeant" rather than "Feldwebel." Furthermore, why aren't little things like buckets of water used in the show are labeled, "Water" rather than the German "Wasser"? Why isn't the list of rules tacked onto the barracks say "Forbidden" rather than "Verboten"?

Scott215

The point is that when German characters are speaking to each other, it is assumed by the audience that they are speaking German and we are hearing an English translation for our convenience. In the world of the show, they are using the German term, but we hear the English equivalent.

Hogan's Heroes (1965)

The Gold Rush - S1-E18

Factual error: The guard outside Klink's office and the two Gestapo soldiers guarding the gold truck have MP38/40 and a Thompson submachine gun, but carry rifle ammunition pouches instead of the long ammo pouches that carried the 30-round magazines used by the MP38/40.

Time Tunnel (1966)

Revenge of the Gods - S1-E7

Factual error: This is one of two episodes in the series where a WW2-era German MP38/40 submachine gun was used by American forces (Master Sergeant Jiggs, in this episode) rather than an American weapon such as a Thompson submachine gun.

Merlin the Magician - S1-E27

Factual error: The Vikings in this episode are fighting while wearing horned helmets. Contrary to popular belief, Vikings never wore horned helmets in battle. Some theories state the horned helmets were worn during special ceremonies, but never in battle or daily life.

Common mistakes

Factual error: Trains that do not stop, but crash through objects on railroad tracks. Train engineers will hit the brakes of the train when they see anything or anyone on the tracks, and if they come in contact with said objects, will stop to investigate what they hit, and cooperate with local and Federal authorities. Two examples are "Back To the Future, Part III" and "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry."

Suggested correction: Trains, especially modern freight trains, take a long time to stop due to their inertia, and this has caused real-world accidents with cars getting stuck on train tracks.

Another example is "Blue Thunder." It should be noted that slamming on the brakes of a massive freight train in an emergency will make a noise like the sky coming down. You'd hear it for miles. In all three cases cited here, the train drivers not only don't stop the train, they don't even hit the brakes.

In the two examples I posited, the car in "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry" smashed right into the locomotive and exploded, cooking the main characters in the car, but there was no sound of the train's brakes and wheels squealing trying to stop; the train kept a-rollin'. In "Back to the Future III," the oncoming train pulverises the DeLorean time machine and also did not stop. If the train did try to stop, the sound of the wheels locking up on the rails would have been heard.

Scott215

The issue you should clarify is that the mistake is the lack of braking, not the train failing to stop.

Time Tunnel (1966)

Chase Through Time - S1-E24

Factual error: Raul Nimon uses a silencer-equipped revolver during his attack in the tunnel control room. In reality, a silencer on a revolver is useless, as the exploding gases from the bullet discharge (the gun blast) would exit from the space between the cylinder and gun barrel.
