Continuity mistake: When Pappagallo has agreed to let Max drive the escape truck and the tanker is prepared to go, Warrior Woman is seen in her perch on top. In the very next shot (distance change) she is seen in the background just climbing to the top of the tanker. (Pan and scan misses this detail.)
Continuity mistake: The one shot that shows Max's car approaching and colliding with the rear of the landau coupe in the opening chase scene is reversed. The car has one door mirror on the driver's side (right) but here we see the mirror on the left, as is the car's driver. The blower's belt is on the right side when it should be on the left. Other mistake: When Max is making his escape from the compound in the Interceptor, he turns on the blower to speed through the bad guys' camp. Here you can see everyone running at fast-forward speed.
Revealing mistake: When the gyro thing is in the air and that bloke grabs the snake you can clearly see that it is a rubber snake.
Deliberate mistake: When Max opens the dog food, the lid should be all jagged because of the type of can opener he uses, but when dog and the gyro captain have the can the lid is cut smoothly. This was done so dog didn't get cut whilst eating out of the can.
Other mistake: The climactic chase scene at the end of the movie has us believe that the tanker being driven by Max is full of "precious fuel", which is why The Humongous and his goons are desperately trying to halt it. But during one shot, the ending of the movie is spoiled because red dirt is seen spilling from one of the pipes leading to the tank. The climax of the movie, of course, is when Max discovers that he was used as a decoy hauling dirt, not fuel. But when the dirt is seen spewing from the tanker in an earlier shot, that surprise is ruined.
Factual error: Mad Max turns on his engine blower with a switch. The blower in Max's car is driven by a belt attached to the engine itself. The only way to turn it off is to turn off the engine. It is possible to put the blower on an electric motor, but turning it off would simply shut off the oxygen and fuel, both of which are pretty important in an internal-combustion engine.
Continuity mistake: When the cars leave the compound and are chased down, Max and the Gyro Captain watch the following events unfold from the hillside. Max takes the telescope from the Gyro Captain and looks at the compound, outside in front of the ditch is a pink four door sedan, but when Max walks to the entrance the sedan has been replaced by the black Landau from the opening chase and the other car has disappeared. Continuous scene so no time to swap cars.
Continuity mistake: When Max turns the truck around at the end, Wes is nowhere to be seen, but he suddenly appears just before the head on bang. The gap between the front ram and the road is to narrow for him to be underneath.
Continuity mistake: At the end of the opening chase the Landau crashes into a road sign taking out the bottom arrow pointing to the right. When Max gets out of the interceptor and runs back the bottom arrow is back in place.
Continuity mistake: During the opening chase Max drives through some wreckage. If you look at the driver's side of the interceptor the side exhaust pipes are missing and there appears to be a metal bar there instead, running from the front wheel to the back.
Continuity mistake: When Max arrives at the compound he gets out of the interceptor and closes the door. When asked to turn around the door is open.
Continuity mistake: When Max leaves the compound and is being pursued by Wez and Toadie, the ground is flat as far as the eye can see. When Max's car begins to roll, the ground is still flat. Suddenly Max winds up in a deep terrain which came from nowhere and wasn't seen in any previous shots.Gavin Jackson
Revealing mistake: When they leave the compound at the end, the gyro captain drops some petrol bombs on the ground as he flies over the bad guys. The ground is already wet with petrol where the bombs land.
Continuity mistake: After the Golden Youth is killed by the boomerang his forehead shows the wound right across his head, but when the gang leave the body is dragged round and the would to the forehead is missing.
Continuity mistake: When Max walks over to the auto gyro, from the overhead shot there is only one set of footprints in the sand leading away and the rest of the sand looks like it's been raked, then when the Gyro Captain appears the sand is covered in footprints.
Continuity mistake: In the opening scene where Max is behind the landau just about to crash it (by activating the supercharger), the interceptor's custom front-end is already destroyed. Then Max accelerates the car and the custom front-end is intact again, to finally be destroyed in the crash.Victor De La Torre
Continuity mistake: After the Warrior Woman is shot in the stomach, she starts to fall over the side. In the close up, the left corner of her mouth is clean. As she settles on the side, there's a trickle of blood going down toward the left side of her chin. Impossible, as the wind would have smeared it along the cheek.Movie Nut
Continuity mistake: Using slow motion, it can be seen that after Toady realizes what the burning fuse is for, and the explosion occurs, his hat is blown off, and he starts to shield his face with his arms. After the cut, the figure that gets blown apart has the hat on, the legs below the knees are at wrong angles, and it's facing into the explosion rather than being turned a quarter way around.Movie Nut
Continuity mistake: In the opening chase when Wez gets hit with the crossbow bolt and the bike goes off to the right of the screen, at this point the rider (Wez) is wearing sunglasses - in the rest of the chase he does not wear sunglasses.
Continuity mistake: During the opening chase we go inside the chasing car, and the passenger points a gun out the window and the hand is bare. Next shot is looking into the car, and the same person is now wearing a glove, holding the same gun in the same position.
Continuity mistake: When Wez gets shot by the crossbow bolt in the opening chase, the bolt should be from left to right feathered end then point through his arm, but when he pulls it out the bolt is from right to left feathered end, then point - it's round the wrong way.
Revealing mistake: The buggy that the landau crashes into is stationary when it should be moving, also the driver has been replaced by a dummy.
Continuity mistake: When Max reverses the interceptor at the end of the opening chase the front wheels are straight. When he runs back to the truck the front wheels are now turned to the right and the side of the car is a lot cleaner.
Continuity mistake: At the end of the opening chase the landau rolls and Max skids to a stop as he passes the truck. Look at the cab - it is facing down the road, but when Max gets out the cab is now facing across the road in front of the skid marks the car has just made, indicating that the interceptor should have gone through the truck.
Continuity mistake: In the final chase scene, Lord Humungus' clothing keeps changing (in fact it's clear that the actor playing him is switching). He switches between bear arms, to wearing a sort of fur vest, to a full length sleeve shirt under the vest. (01:20:00 - 01:29:00)
Continuity mistake: The amount of dirt on the interceptor and engine blower changes throughout the opening chase scene from very dirty to clean on close up shots, and dirty again on the sides.
Revealing mistake: When Max has the head on at the end you see a shot from in front of the truck to show the impact. Look at the cars and bikes behind that should be moving as they are chasing the truck - the motorbike riders and cars are stationary; the motorbike riders even have their feet on the ground.
Revealing mistake: In the opening scene, when Mad Max searches the Mack truck, he finds a clearly fake body in it.
Other mistake: The amount of vehicles leaving the compound at the end doesn't make sense and the amount of fuel they carry is far less than they could carry in the tanker. The amount of vehicles they use apart from the bus being used as the gate are never seen parked in the compound throughout the film, they just appear when needed.
Continuity mistake: When Max opens the can of dog food he uses a can opener that would leave a jagged edge. He the throws it to Dog who starts to eat it, but the can and lid are now smooth around the edges.
Visible crew/equipment: After Papagallo tells the warrior woman to get rid of Max you can see Max's' V8 being towed into the compound and reflected on the side you can see a cameraman holding a camera then a second later as the shot changes to the side of the car a boom mic is visible also reflected on the car.Jack Vaughan
Continuity mistake: As Max gets out his car after first finding the Gyro Copter there is a shot from directly above him and you can see no shadows behind his car on the sand, then as the shot changes to Max's' face as he approaches the Gyro Copter there is a long deep shadow of a tree branch cast just behind his car.Jack Vaughan
Plot hole: Max drives from the hillside to the crashed car to save the occupants but the guy with the crossbow doing up his boots somehow doesn't hear Max's V8 engine approaching, or hear Max get out and sneak up on him, this area would be quiet and Max must have parked nearby to get the injured man to his car.
Other mistake: At the end of the opening chase Max starts to collect the leaking fuel from the crashed car. Only problem is, the fuel is so contaminated from the dirt in the containers he is using, it makes the fuel unusable for his car, considering his red low fuel warning light is on.
