Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Continuity mistake: When Ron, Harry and Hermione drink the polyjuice potion, they all drop their glasses, smashing them onto the floor and presumably making a big mess. However, in the high angle shot looking down at Harry, there is no sign of broken glass or any potion splattered anywhere. (01:20:10)

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Harry, Ron, and Hermione are drinking the Polyjuice Potion, Harry leans toward the mirror and starts to gag or something. You can clearly see his shirt is half-unbuttoned. Then they cut away to another shot farther back. Then they cut back to him, and his shirt is buttoned up, nice and neat. (01:20:20)

Continuity mistake: In Moaning Myrtle's bathroom, the mirrors don't reflect at all, they're very dirty. But when Harry changes into Goyle, his face is clearly reflected in one of the mirrors. (01:20:20)

Other mistake: Near the end of the film, when Harry is leaning on the sink about to change into Goyle, we see his reflection in the mirror. In the reflection, it shows his face is starting to change and his skin is bubbling up, but his actual face (which we see part of in front of the mirror) is not changing at all. (01:20:40)

Continuity mistake: In the Slytherin common room, the green pillow at Malfoy's arm while he sits on the couch differs in the very first shot from behind Malfoy and the ones facing him. The wood logs change behind Malfoy and the marks in the dust on the table between two sofas in front of Goyle differs greatly, after Malfoy asks, "How many times do I have to tell you?" (01:22:30)

Continuity mistake: In the Slytherine common room, when Harry and Ron are talking to Malfoy as Crabbe and Goyle, it isn't only Malfoy's hair that's changed. His voice is also higher pitched, suggesting this scene was filmed before his voice dropped, and he is also shorter and has a younger, chubbier face than in the scenes beforehand. Many of the scenes throughout the movie were shot out of sequence. (01:22:55)

Continuity mistake: In the Slytherine common room, Malfoy sits at the edge of the desk, as he speaks with Crabbe/Ron and Goyle/Harry and the items on the desk are visible around him. When Malfoy says, "It's been fifty years since the Chamber was opened..," he now sits at the left edge, the snake lamp stem is turned around, etc. (01:23:50)

Continuity mistake: During the scene when Harry and Ron are talking to Malfoy as Crabbe and Goyle, Draco has his hair slicked straight back. A couple of seconds later, Draco's hair is parted a bit, and messed up at the back. Some more seconds later, his hair is slicked and tidy once more. (01:23:55)

Continuity mistake: While in the Slytherin common room, as Malfoy says, "But my father did say this," visible behind Crabbe/Ron and Goyle/Harry, there is a Slytherin striped scarf slung over the back of the chair. This scarf changes position when Ron/Crabbe jumps up and Harry/Goyle grabs him and in the very last overhead shot of Crabbe/Ron and Goyle/Harry as they run up the stairs. (01:24:00)

Continuity mistake: When Myrtle is flooding the girls' bathroom, the tap that later doesn't work (the entrance to the Chamber) is happily churning out water - it's on the side nearest the door, so we see it clearly both times. (01:26:05)

Continuity mistake: When Harry and Ron are talking to Myrtle when she said somebody threw a book at her she turns around and starts crying. If you look when she starts crying her face is all screwed up. When the camera angle changes when she stops turning and walks off, her face is no longer screwed up. (01:27:00)

Revealing mistake: When Harry sits in the Gryffindor common room with the diary, in the close-up, the name Tom Marvolo Riddle is gold embossed on the back cover. However in the previous shot, when Harry lifts the diary off the floor in the lavatory, both sides are clearly visible and the name is NOT on either side, nor is it seen on either side when Harry first takes it from Ginny's arm and when he closes it to stab the cover with the Basilisk fang. The name is also NOT embossed on the cover when Dumbledore holds it up in his study or in the close-up of the other side when he places it on the desk in front of Harry and Lucius Malfoy. (01:27:10 - 02:15:10)

Continuity mistake: While Harry looks through the seemingly empty diary, in the first overhead shot, the quill lies semi diagonally on the table at the top right corner of the diary. In the next shot it lies right next to Harry's right hand. (01:27:20)

Super Grover

Continuity mistake: When Harry first dips his quill into the ink bottle, the bottle is a good distance away from the diary. He drips ink on the page and it disappears. As he flips the page in the next wide shot, the ink bottle is much closer to the diary though he hasn't touched it. (01:27:40)

Continuity mistake: When Harry is in the Gryffindor common room with the diary, the candle in the lantern changes height dramatically. It is short in all shots, yet when the diary transports Harry and when it transports him back, the candle is much taller. (01:28:00)

Super Grover

Revealing mistake: In the scene where Harry Potter is writing in Tom Riddle's diary, we see Harry dipping his feather pen into the ink jar. Notice the shape and size of Harry's hand. When Harry actually starts to write in the diary we see a close up of Harry's hand, but it's not his actual hand doing the writing. The "stunt" hand has longer thinner fingers than Harry Potter's 12 year old hand. (01:28:05)

Continuity mistake: When it shows Harry writing in the diary, he writes "My name is Harry Potter." When he does this he says what he is writing. It shows what he is writing until he gets to the letters "Po..." Then the shot cuts out to Harry still continuing his sentence. But he only write about 1 or 2 more letters. That means he couldn't have finished his name. (01:28:10)

Continuity mistake: In the Gryffindor common room, as Harry is preoccupied with the diary, there is a lantern and two stacked books right in front of him. In some shots the lantern is closer to him and in other shots the two books are closer. (01:28:25)

Super Grover

Continuity mistake: When we see Harry writing in Tom Riddle's diary, as he writes, the feather end of his quill is pointing to the right. But when we see the three close ups of Harry's hand writing the words, "Do you know anything about the Chamber of Secrets? Can you tell me?" in the diary, the feather end of the quill is pointing towards Harry. (01:28:25)

Audio problem: When Harry, Hermione and Ron discuss Tom Riddle and Hagrid's supposed link to the Chamber of Secrets Hagrid overhears something and asks if they were talking about him. Harry, Hermione and Ron all turn round and we hear them say, "No!" at the same time. If you watch carefully, Hermione says, "No!" slightly afterwards, but no sound comes out. The line has been dubbed so that they all say it in unison. (01:30:16)

Trivia: When Hagrid is welcomed back to Hogwarts and everyone stands up and applauds, Vincent Crabbe also stands up and starts to applaud as well. This wasn't in the script and Tom Felton, staying in character, quickly grabbed Jamie and pulled him back down.

Question: Does any one know the Japanese golfer joke Uncle Vernon was telling at the beginning of the movie?

Answer: The joke goes like this, "A California business man, while in Japan for some business meetings and a few rounds of golf, arrived in Tokyo a day earlier than expected. Feeling lonely that evening, he employed the services of a beautiful young Japanese girl to be his companion for the evening. Although the Japanese girl spoke very little English and the businessman spoke no Japanese, their passion roared and in the heat of the moment she began yelling "Machigatta ana. Machigatta ana" Hearing this, the Californian believed he had pleased his female Japanese friend and soon afterwards went to sleep. The next day while playing golf with his Japanese business colleague, his Japanese partner holed his shot from 170 yards away. Wanting to impress his friend, the Californian began yelling, "Machigatta ana!" The Japanese business man turned to the Californian and with a confused look on his face asked, "What do you mean wrong hole?"

Answer: The punchline is actually quite vulgar, but you can read a copy of the joke at http://www.sugarquill.net/forum/index.php?s=1a43217a81cc245555ad6ac82d3bcc5b&showtopic=6214&view=findpost&p=225388.
