Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets picture

Question: At the end of the Chamber of Secrets, Harry gives Lucius Malfoy the diary, showing him that he knows it was him. In the Half Blood Prince we see Dumbledore at his desk mulling over Tom Riddle's destroyed diary - is this an error, or have I missed something? Was it not given back to Malfoy at the end of Chamber of Secrets?

brdwyguy

Chosen answer: After Harry hands it to Lucius, Lucius hands it to Dobby to carry. After Dobby is freed by the hidden sock and protects Harry from Lucius, Lucius leaves it behind.

Question: What happened to the original poster with Roxy and Velma holding guns behind their backs? In all the more recent ones the guns are gone. Why?

Chosen answer: I have both the DVD and the soundtrack. On the DVD cover they have the guns, however on the soundtrack cover, their arms look like they have been cut out of the picture along with the guns. Possibly somebody thought that it was a bad influence, since many young people enjoy the movie as well.

Question: Why was the man in the yellow suit wearing a band-aid on his pointer finger when he was talking to the young priest?

Chosen answer: I looked over and over, he is not wearing a band-aid. My guess is, since he has bumpy fingers and it was dark, you just thought you saw a band-aid.

Question: I know that the images in the tape represent things that happened to or around Samara, but what is the point of the nail going through someone's finger? I know they can't show every second of Samara's life so we might not see a connection, but that part of the tape really grossed me out and so I want to know if someone knows why it was put there, or was it just the gross-out factor?

troy fox

Chosen answer: Samara broke her finger nail clawing at the walls of the well... I guess that's why it's on the tape also.

Paul Plesser

Answer: In the movie Rings, the main girl gets her finger nail stabbed by a nail.

Halloween: Resurrection picture

Question: It was revealed that the person who Laurie thought she killed wasn't Michael but somebody who Michael had subdued and placed his clothes and mask on. Why would Laurie be sent to an institution for this? She wasn't aware of the fact that she killed the wrong person until the mask was removed, and since the staff seem to know about her connection to Michael, wouldn't they consider letting her go since she was only trying to stop Michael's rampage?

Answer: At first impression, Laurie was catatonic not only from the shock of killing an innocent man, but also from a lifetime of being chased down by her murderous brother. She obviously knows from past experiences that nothing she does (including faking her own death) will stop Michael from finding her. It is later revealed she has been faking her mental issues (think when she has been hiding her regular meds in the raggedy Ann doll) and is committed only to stopping Michael, no matter what the cost. She may have also been trying to protect her son and the only way to do that is to allow herself to be institutionalized in order to lure Michael there.

Answer: It's not properly explained (nothing in this stupid movie is), but the implication is that she went a little crazy due to the guilt of killing an innocent man and was institutionalized.

Question: Does the photo at the end with Sy and the family actually happen or is this just Sy imagining what life could have been like with them?

Tallicame

Chosen answer: This is mentioned on the DVD commentary - it's deilberately open ended so one can interpret it as either it's Sy imagining what he wants to happen OR it's what really happened.

Question: Are the pizza delivery guy and The Caller two different characters? I was always under the impression that they were one and the same.

Chosen answer: The pizza man is intended by the Caller to be a decoy so he can get away. The Caller sends the pizza man to the phone booth so that Stu will identify him later in the apartment, giving the police a convenient answer to the mystery while the real Caller escapes. In fact, at the end of the movie, the Caller comes to visit Stu - obviously he's not the dead pizza delivery man.

Question: There's a quote that I don't understand: "The fact that you prevented it from happening doesn't change the fact that it was going to happen." I immediately thought, "Yes, it does change the fact that it was going to happen." If Witwer hadn't put his hand there, it would have happened. However, he did, thus "changing the fact that it was going to happen," right? Isn't this the point of the whole movie: determinism is foolish and that different actions produce different consequences?

Chosen answer: No, he didn't change the fact that it was going to happen. He prevented it from happening. But until he stopped it, it was going to happen. And no matter how many times you look back at that sequence, it was going to happen. Up until a point, it was going to happen. It was just prevented.

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones picture

Question: When Anakin and Padme get married, Anakin is wearing an outfit that is often seen on Jedi and is displaying a Jedi Padawan's hair braid. Do he and Padme not care that the man who performs the wedding is seeing him (as Jedi are not supposed to have relationships and marry)? Why not disguise him? It's a huge risk to let even one person see a Jedi getting married.

Chosen answer: Agolerga, who officiated the wedding, would have known who both people were, especially Padme. Remember they were also keeping the marriage secret because of Padme's position as Senator. Assuming Agolerga was aware a Jedi can't marry, he may simply not care or agree with the rule. Also, as a holy man of Naboo, Anakin and Padme may have trusted him with their secret.

Equilibrium picture

Question: Right before the fight between Preston and DuPont, DuPont re-quotes Sean Bean "you tread on my dreams." How did he know that quote, and why did he know it would mean anything to Preston?

Chosen answer: Since Preston is the one who discovered Partridge's sense-offense and executed him, he was probably required to give a report of how it went down and mentioned Partridge's last words, which one would expect would make its way to DuPont.

Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron picture

Question: Why does the Colonel let Spirit escape at the end of the movie? I know it's meant to be a sign of respect. But why would they respect each other? In my opinion they have no reasons to have mutual respect.

Chosen answer: You don't have to have mutual respect to do what is right or just. Letting Spirit escape was the morally right thing for the Colonel to do.

Answer: Because the colonel saw that Spirit and Little Creek had a strong bond, and how hard Spirit had worked for his freedom.

Answer: Because he probably gave up.

Question: Why did they change Faramir? In the books he wasn't even tempted by the Ring.

DFirst1

Answer: Most likely to emphasize the power of the ring to corrupt men. It shows that Faramir was actually the stronger brother, because he was able to resist its power.
