Best comedy movie mistakes of 1988
Continuity mistake: After Ken reverses the steamroller after running Otto over with it, you can see a red patch signifying his splattered body in front of the roller. However, a few scenes later, Otto is seen alive. (Otto was originally meant to die, until test audience feedback influenced a change of mind on the part of the filmmakers.)
Continuity mistake: In a bus scene Crash is shown holding a guitar talking about being in the majors. In one scene he's just holding the guitar, the next he has a pair of sunglasses in his hand while holding the guitar. The next scene the sunglasses are gone. A couple of shots later the guitar is sitting in the seat next to him. When Laloosh challenges Crash to a fight, he's holding the guitar again.
Continuity mistake: During the horse and buggy ride to the church through downtown New York, when one of the girls is holding the reins by herself, you can tell there is a person under a red blanket at her feet (I guess to protect her while filming in case something goes wrong,) and only a moment later, the same blanket is black.
Continuity mistake: During the bear in the cabin scene, after Chet puts the door back up, shortly after, you'll see the door is on the floor while Roman is fighting the bear with the oar from the steps. (Also, note in that same shot, you'll see the bookshelf was destroyed to pieces with its books all over the floor. That scene was never shown and must have been cut from the movie).
Continuity mistake: When Jack and the Duke are in the restaurant car of the first train, Jack is eating a chicken leg in one shot. In the middle of a sentence he changes to eating jelly and ice cream, which he finishes. In the very next shot his bowl is full of jelly and ice cream again.
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Tom Hanks goes back to his mother's house when he's "BIG", he tries to convince his mother it's him by telling her his birthday: November 3rd. However, in the scene (with John Heard and Elizabeth Perkins) showing the milk carton of Tom Hanks "missing" as a young boy, his d.o.b. is shown as 1/20/75.

Other mistake: As the brown truck drives away in the scene after the man working in the newspaper office is "harpooned" by a Critter, if you look closely as the truck turns a corner you can see some Critters rolling after it. Well, after they roll past the truck in the bottom left of the screen you can see the Critters roll right smack into another parked car. Obviously the crew forgot to add a turning feature to their Critter balls (which were just some fur taped to a basket ball).
Factual error: At the end, when Cyndi Lauper touches the glowing pyramid, goes into a trance, and starts translating the inscription, Jeff Goldblum pulls her off and she doesn't finish it. One of the bad guys says that what Cyndi already said will be enough to help him decode the rest and that it's just a matter of "cartography" now. He should have said "cryptography" (skill of decoding secret writings) and not "cartography" (which has to do with making maps).
Continuity mistake: When Celeste explains to the Elders why Earth should be saved she says, "They have sneezes", but doesn't explain what they are. The Elders don't look like they recognize the term. Later, one of the Elders sneezes, and says, "We don't have sneezes here." Now how could he know that he just sneezed, if nobody explained it to him?
