Deliberate mistake: When the Dragon Emperor is giving his Terracotta army the speech near the end, you see a shot that pans across the faces of several of his soldiers. A few shots later, this exact same shot is played in reverse. It is very easy to tell if you look at the way the camera moves up and down to catch the different faces.
Deliberate mistake: At one point during the big escape chase scene, Finnegan takes a turn and the jet-ski he and Trillian are on side-swipes a wall and it's clear that they're about to fall off. The film cuts away briefly and then we see them and they're zooming along again as though nothing happened. The scene is portrayed in real-time so there's no way they had time to spill, get back up again and build up enough speed in the time between edits. Slightly sloppy editing. (And this is not referring to the other moment in another mistake where the same thing happens when they exit the boat. It actually happens twice during the scene - that moment and this one).
Deliberate mistake: As Rosemary is prepared to be raped by the devil she is lying on white sheets. In the next shot as she is being raped she's on black satin sheets. (00:47:30)
Deliberate mistake: Per his autopsy in Saw IV, John Kramer was 52 years old at the time of his death, and this film takes place between Saw and Saw II. Tobin Bell was around 80 years old at the time of making this film, and thus looks far too old to convincingly play someone in their early 50s. Amanda Young also looks a lot older in this film compared to other entries in the franchise that are chronologically later.
Deliberate mistake: Despite it being demonstrated multiple times earlier in the film that vampires do not have a reflection, a key moment features the undead Mina being revealed in a reflection in water. The filmmakers said they were aware of the discrepancy but ultimately decided the visual was striking enough to bend the rules for.
Deliberate mistake: The closing scene contains one of the most famous deliberate omissions. As Mitch, his mother, and Melanie approach the front door to leave the house, there is no front door; it was removed so the camera can see them. Mitch mimes reaching for the door and pulling the handle. As he does this, a light is panned onto the actors' faces to help sell the illusion that a real door was opened. Victoria Cartwright later reported that she asked Hitchcock why people wouldn't see there was no door there. He replied that it was the magic of movies - no one would notice. And no one ever does! Deliberate mistake: When Baz is driving the 'movie car' the vehicle does not have hubcaps, but in the closeups of the tires there are hubcaps, and the tires change, plus there's tape covering the brand name at the center of the hubcap.
Deliberate mistake: In the first sequence, you see a man riding on the wooden battering-ram, and you can see where two different shots of the same man were spliced together, as the background suddenly shifts from being a forest, to being the exterior of the town, where the stone wall is. It was meant to be one single shot, but you can just see how the trick works. (00:00:30)
Deliberate mistake: The film is presented in a high definition raw footage format, which was not available for handheld cameras in 1988.
Deliberate mistake: So right before the containment team seal up the window with the tarp, the SWAT is shown having police dogs. The virus (which came from a dog in the first place) can be transferred through saliva. The SWAT obviously overlooked the fact that the potentially infected people who might escape could be bitten by the dogs.
Deliberate mistake: At the beginning of the movie while driving through town the old rusty horse trailer was facing from left to right. at the end of the movie as they were leaving town, they showed the same trailer and the picture was inverted, parked in same location,however it was facing right to left.
Deliberate mistake: When Quinn is texting the boy next door, he responds too quickly for it to be real. She sends the "So you think I can stop traffic, huh?" text and gets a response within literally two seconds. She then sends the "Did I wake you up?" text and gets two responses within five seconds. Texts usually take several seconds (at least) to be delivered and opened, so even with great service and lightning-fast fingers, this is obviously far too quick.
Deliberate mistake: Empty magazines aren't that heavy, but when Alice kicks it into the face of one of the zombies, it looks like he's being hit with a baseball bat. (00:22:45)
Deliberate mistake: Nearly every night scene inside the house is lit by very bright lights shining in the windows from outside. Yet every time anyone is outside the house, it's still just as dark. There is no light source from which these lights could possibly originate.
Deliberate mistake: When Kimberly is being revived, it's obvious that they are using a defibulator. But when Kimberly finally comes to and is covered by a sheet, you can see she has a bra on. This is impossible to have because you need direct contact with the skin in order for it to work. And the machine would start the heart working if it was lower on her chest.
Deliberate mistake: When the hillbilly is dragged into the cellar, the resulting explosion of blood has a much greater volume than the actual amount of blood in a human body. This is done to support the campy gore motif of the film. (01:03:20)
Deliberate mistake: The suit, rather than using many large cameras, should be created with many imperceptibly small cameras in between monitors. We need monitors to see what is on the other side of the suit, not camera lenses.
Suggested correction: The monitors are on the inside, behind the cameras.
Deliberate mistake: When the blonde girl is doing a strip tease, she has long hair which reaches far down her back. However when they show a flash shot of her breast as she spins, her hair is only to her neck. Obviously a double.
Deliberate mistake: During the entire movie nothing is mentioned about the rape of Merrin until the very end, even though it is quite obvious for a forensic investigator to determine she was raped, and something like that would be very important to help find a suspect. This is done deliberately to continue the plot as rape would make Iggy less of a suspect (being her boyfriend for years) and someone like Lee more (known by Iggy and others he had feelings for her).
Suggested correction: Boyfriends (and even husbands), are routinely accused of and found guilty of raping their partner. Given that they were seen arguing and told by the waitress that she saw Ig dragging Merrin to his car, there's no reason to think the police wouldn't suspect Ig of rape. We don't see any of the proceedings and we are told only a little bit of information about how the characters got to where they are at the start in order to build suspense, it has nothing to do with continuing the plot.
Deliberate mistake: It's a humorous twist that Randy's killing is covered up by some random guys passing by with a ghetto blaster, but there was dead silence when Randy was talking earlier; not being in frame does not block soundwaves. (01:05:15)
