Best history movie other mistakes of all time

Tora! Tora! Tora! picture

Other mistake: When the Japanese planes take off for Pearl Harbor, some of the 3 man torpedo planes only have a pilot.

Add time

Midway picture

Other mistake: Another "Recycled Footage Segment" via Tora! Tora! Tora!: When 3 Officers on Midway come out of their bunker and say that the runway is still operational, the footage of the B-17 with the landing gear problem mentioned elsewhere is blatantly used.

Dunkirk picture

Other mistake: In the scene at the end where Farrier gazes upon his burning Spitfire on the beach, the propeller appears to be supported at the end of a simple rod. In fact the propeller would have been attached to a rather solid engine. There's also no internal structure - the entire spitfire was reduced to ashes which was impossible as this was a metal aircraft. Unlike the Wellington, Mosquito or Hurricane which were partly timber and canvas.

Start the Revolution Without Me picture

Other mistake: About 3/4 of the way through the film a boat arrives at the left quay of the Seine. Looking west down the river with Notre Dame on the right of the scene you can see a tour bus cross the bridge.

Add time

The Alamo picture

Other mistake: When John Wayne is running about near the chapel with a torch. Inside the chapel, you can see a lot of Mexican soldiers just standing there not doing anything.

Add time

Frost/Nixon picture

Other mistake: The Sydney harbor scenes have the backdrop of the opera house. The buildings (aka "The Toaster") beside the opera house were not completed until 1998. The film was set in 1976-77.

Gods and Generals picture

Other mistake: In the battle for Fredricksburg you can see streaks in the sky from jets.

Zulu (1964)

Zulu picture

Other mistake: In the scene when the Zulu warriors have broken through the roof in the hospital. The British make a hole and escape through it. You can clearly see the hole that they are going to cut open because it is a different color

Add time

The Great Escape picture

Other mistake: When Hilts and Ives are taken down to the cooler for the very first time, just after arriving at the camp, watch the wall as the door is closed by the guard behind Ives - it very obviously moves as the door slams shut.

Add time

Other mistake: In the opening scene of this German movie from 1944, a panoramic view of the city of Potsdam is shown with the subtitle "Potsdam 1813". In the background, the two high radio masts of the Potsdam Military Communication Central can be seen very clearly before the sky.

Add time

The Longest Day picture

Other mistake: In the early part of the movie, Rommel is addressing his Officers on the Atlantic Wall. The "mid-shots" and "close-ups" are shot against a back projection. Rommel turns to view the sea/horizon and the view is exactly the same as their "mid-shots". The effect is a horrendous "jump-cut".

Sink the Bismarck picture

Other mistake: When the planes from the carrier Ark Royal first spot a ship through a hole in the cloud cover we see a ship sailing along. (The Sheffield, which they mistakenly attack). Later, they supposedly spot the Bismarck, yet we see exactly the same ship sailing along through the same hole in cloud cover.

Kingdom of Heaven picture

Other mistake: When Balian talks to God on the hill where Jesus died, after he says his line, the next shot is him sitting down overlooking the empty valley below. A white light travels from right to left going 45-50 mph. Nothing back then could go that fast, and even if anything could, a torch is yellow and red, and even if it could be white, no rider can ride that fast with a white-light torch and keep it from going out - leaving us to assume it's a car.

Druids (2001)

Druids picture

Other mistake: One of the shots of the aftermath of the battle is played in reverse - e.g. the smoke from the fires is going down.

Zulu Dawn picture

Other mistake: When Melville and Coghill climb out of the river with the colours you can clearly see that the flag is drenched. a few minutes later when they are trying to hold the Zulus at bay you can see the flag fluttering in the wind. It's impossible that the material could dry that quickly when it's that wet.

There Will Be Blood picture

Other mistake: While laying the pipeline toward the ocean, the pipe is being joined so that the female end flows into the male end. The male end should flow into the female end.

Add time

All the President's Men picture

Other mistake: The chronology of dates on the teletype printer at the end of the film are not in the correct order for 1975 as a date in the middle part of the year is listed before a date in January.

Glory (1989)

Glory picture

Other mistake: In the final scene when they are about to charge Fort Wagner, Mathew Broderick yells "forward march!" and takes his first step with his right foot when it should have been his left foot like the rest of the battalion.

Luther (2003)

Luther picture

Other mistake: When Leo X is hunting a wild pig, a poem is recited which mentions a boar (at least in the german version). But while the pig is running you can see it is a sow (from its longish nose). After the pig is hit, you can even see the teats. In the next shot the sow is supposed to look like a boar: It now has the characteristic big teeth of a boar.

Miracle picture

Other mistake: Just before the second period against the USSR, we see a couple of shots of the benched Soviet starting goaltender Vladislav Tretiak. His hair is dry and combed, and there is no sign of perspiration, despite having just played the whole first period. After the game is over, we see a shot of the Soviet players watching the Americans celebrate. This time Tretiak's hair is wet and his face is sweaty. Shouldn't it be the other way around (i.e., hair is wet after playing one period, then dry after sitting on the bench for two periods)?

Matty Blast

Troy (2004)

Troy picture

Other mistake: While the Trojan warning gongs ring, in the shot of the citizens when they run past the guards to return to the safety within the walls, there is something stuck to the left side of the camera (it looks like a long piece of hair), which flickers on the screen as the camera continues to pan in closer.

Super Grover
The Game of Their Lives picture

Other mistake: When the USA soccer world cup team is practicing in New York, on some field in Long Island, in several shots you can see the steeple for Union Avenue Christian Church, which is actually located in Saint Louis, Missouri.

K-19: The Widowmaker picture

Other mistake: In all scenes where the submarine is running on the surface the surface search radar is rotating CCW (viewed from above). All surface search radars rotate CW.

Add time

Amistad picture

Other mistake: When the slaves are getting into the Portuguese ship (the "Tecora"), the crew shouts in clear Spanish (some Spaniard and some Mexican accent) rather than the expected Portuguese.

Quo Vadis picture

Other mistake: When one of the Christians is being crucified and burnt, we can see that just after the man's "death" the body is substituted by a plastic doll covered in red paint.

Add time

The Man in the Iron Mask picture

Other mistake: When the Musketeers are charging the firing squad at the end, they only have about 20 yards to run which they should cover in just a couple seconds, but somehow it takes them much longer to reach the other men. This is especially noticeable since they're running at full speed. (This has nothing to do with editing or slow-motion, as most of the shots are shown in real time, at regular speed.)

Add time

Krista
The Doors picture

Other mistake: Early in the film, before they were signed to a record deal the Doors were playing small clubs around L.A. in 1966. After one of these gigs, a promoter comes up and asks Jim Morrison how old he is, in which he replies "21." Morrison was born in 1943, so the youngest he could have been is 22, not 21.

Add time

Anna and the King picture

Other mistake: When Chowfa jumps from the wall to escape he injures his shin in a way which looks impossible the way he falls.
