The Outrage: Part 1 - S9-E1

Factual error: When Toni and John-Boy make a bet about who will locate Jason first John-Boy is holding a book, and just as they agree to the loser buying a bottle of champagne, this book's author and title are visible on the spine. That book is "A Pocketful of Rye" written by A. J. Cronin, and published in 1969, though this episode takes place in 1945. (00:30:35)

The Outrage: Part 2 - S9-E2

Character mistake: The NCO in charge of the Navy construction crew is wearing a commissioned officer's eagle insignia on his hat. A non-commissioned officer would have one with a Navy anchor on it. This mistake appears in several episodes showing Ben's Navy service.

The Move - S9-E8

Continuity mistake: When John and Jason remove the rolltop desk from the pickup, in the exterior shot Jason carries the left side and John carries the right side, but as they walk through the doorway it cuts to an interior shot and with the desk still in the air the two men have suddenly switched sides. The Move - S9-E8

Visible crew/equipment: When Ben and Cindy enter the mill's office to speak to John, as John says, "We've got a lot of talking to do," the chalk T-mark is visible on the floor behind Cindy. John will stand at this spot when he gets up and tells the couple not to worry about him. (00:17:45)

The Move - S9-E8

Visible crew/equipment: While the family starts packing up their car with John's suitcases and boxes, right after John says, "I just don't want any kind of a big scene," a cluster of boom mics dip into view and stays there at the top of the screen, over Mary Ellen and Jason. Then in the closeup, as John agrees that they will all go see Olivia, a crew member wearing a blue shirt (with a front pocket) is visible in the vehicle's window reflection. (00:44:40)

The Carousel - S9-E11

Deliberate mistake: After Elizabeth goes upstairs with the pillowcases for Cindy, in the following shots there are a few long shots of Colonel Brunson's car on the road, and a couple of those shots are flipped - noticeable due to identical trees shown the opposite way. (00:03:55)

The Carousel - S9-E11

Revealing mistake: While Cindy and Ben are going through Colonel Brunson's belongings Cindy finds the Adoption Decree, and begins reading it. The funny thing is there's a closeup of the document, and it's apparent that it's actually a studio contract. Even without pausing we can read things such as: "Use of Double," "Location Expenses" or "Damage to Wardrobe." Though if it's paused we can read entire lines such as: "Location Expenses: Where the services of the Artist are required to be performed outside of the City of Los Angeles or its environs, the Producer shall transport the Artist and the reasonable personal baggage of the Artist..." The Carousel - S9-E11

Factual error: After Cindy admits that she needs to know why she was put up for adoption, when it cuts to a clip of Washington DC with the Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial in the background, we also see vehicles not appropriate for 1945. (00:14:45)

The Carousel - S9-E11

Other mistake: When Jim-Bob comes home unexpectedly while Drew is over, this scene takes place in the boys' bedroom. In the interior shot, when Jim-Bob tells Drew to douse the light Drew gets up and turns off the light in the boys' bedroom, then it cuts to the exterior shot which specifically shows their window going dark as the light is being turned off by Drew. The problem is in this exterior shot we are seeing the light go out in John-Boy's bedroom (where Mary Ellen resides with the baby), not the boys' bedroom. (00:26:00)

The Hot Rod - S9-E12

Continuity mistake: While Miss Mamie is trapped, when Ike and Miss Emily find the special wall panel to control the door, the hidden door opens and the top of the door is plain with no molding, but when Ike leads the Baldwin sisters into the room, in the shot from within the room there is molding across the top of that door. The Hot Rod - S9-E12

Continuity mistake: When John-Boy, Jason, and Ben share the Recipe with Jim-Bob for a celebration, John-Boy sits on the bed directly below the picture of the biplane fighters (seen in three shots), but each time it cuts to the shots facing Jim-Bob we see in the mirror's reflection that it's Jason sitting below that picture, and John-Boy is further up on the bed. The Hot Rod - S9-E12

Continuity mistake: When Ike and the Baldwin sisters prepare to enter the "secret" room, in the shot from the foyer Miss Emily lights two new tall candles and they walk through the room's doorway. Then it cuts to inside the room as they all enter through the doorway, but both candles are now significantly shorter. (00:16:25)

The Hot Rod - S9-E12

Revealing mistake: When John-Boy, Mary Ellen, and Verdie are bringing Jody home from the hospital, during the drive in the two shots facing the front of the vehicle, the edge of the rear projection screen is visible at the left side of the screen. (00:45:25)

The Beginning - S9-E14

Visible crew/equipment: When Toni is setting the table Mary Ellen walks over to give her a hand, and the white tape mark is visible on the floor where Mary Ellen stands. It's most noticeable just as Jim-Bob lifts his leg over the bench, when he sits at the table. (00:13:50)

The Pearls - S9-E15

Visible crew/equipment: After Elizabeth informs Ike that Corabeth's sister, Orma Lee, is resting in the back room it cuts to the Walton family having dinner, and as Jason tells the others they should all stay out of it, the shadow of the boom mic is moving about on the white door. (00:09:55)

The Threshold - S9-E17

Factual error: When John Curtis walks out to the porch he's carrying a storybook, which John-Boy reads to him, and the year is late 1945 or early 1946. This over-sized Golden book is Richard Scarry's "Best Mother Goose Ever," and at its earliest it was published in 1970 with Scarry's illustrations of "Three Little Kittens" on the cover, and "Jack Be Nimble" on the back cover. The Reunion - S1-E14

Ike: How's it feel to be a working man?
John-Boy: Ike, Mama would skin me alive! Everyone knows those two ladies make bootleg whiskey.
Ike: But they don't know what they're doing. They're just following their papa's Recipe.
John-Boy: But sometimes they sell it!
Ike: Yeah, but they're just like two little girls by a roadside selling lemonade.

The Outrage: Part 1 - S9-E1

Trivia: While everyone is at the table eating supper and talking, little John Curtis taps on John's shoulder, then John turns and asks "What?" John Curtis points to his pants and excitedly says, "I got new pants," and John says, "I see that. Who got you those? Your mommy?" Then John Curtis looks offscreen, away from the other actors on set, and replies, "No, from Pat," (no characters named Pat are on the show) and without missing a beat, John responds, "From Pat? Where does she live? On the next farm?" And John Curtis answers, "Yeah," amidst all the giggles we can hear, so John answers with a smirk, "Okay, good!" This is such a hilariously precious unscripted moment, and great they decided to leave it in the episode. (00:26:15)
