The position of the camera is at the back of the pile of cars, and there is an outstretched hand at the top of the screen blocking the glare for the camera, which is tilting upwards.

Visible crew/equipment: During the rescue at the auto wrecking yard, when DeSoto says that he's going to get the backboard and the splint, the outlines of the mic transmitter and wire are visible on the back of DeSoto's shirt as he's bending over.

Correct, it was J. Pat O'Malley...he also played the grandfather with his grandson when their rocket exploded, and also played "Old Bill" in the episode with Ann Prentiss, where Gage saves the little girl from the burning tree house, and her mother falls in love with him.
