Continuity mistake: When Monk and Sharona talk to Sylvia in the prison library the second time, the books on her desk change in various shots. At first, you see 3 piles of books, all with blue books on top. In the next shot the blue book closest to her is gone. In the next shot, she's straightening a red book next to her, but it goes back to being crooked.

Continuity mistake: When the Captain is eating his sandwich while talking to Monk, the position of the sandwich and amount eaten keeps changing. He'll have it in his hand, but in the next shot it's on the plate. And you see him take a 2nd bite, but later only 1 bite has been taken.

Continuity mistake: When Monk is talking to Benjy, he buttons up the top two buttons on his shirt, but in the next shot of him they're undone, and he's re-buttoning them.

Continuity mistake: When Stottlemeyer pulls his gun on Mr. Modine, the safety is off and the gun is cocked, but in the next shot it's not cocked and the safety is on. Then we see the safety off, but not cocked.

Continuity mistake: While at the crime scene in the junkyard, Monk is trying to explain things, but is unable to concentrate because one of the stacked junked cars still has a headlight in it. Frustrated, the Captain shoots the light out so Monk can continue, but as the screen pulls back the headlight is still unbroken in the car.

Continuity mistake: When Mrs. St. Claire refers Mr. Monk as "Rain man", her glass is about an inch and a half full. Next time we see her the level of liquid has dropped. (00:16:45)
Continuity mistake: In the flashbacks of Sharona's uncle's fall, he's lying perpendicular to the steps, but in the photos of the incident we saw earlier, he was lying in line with them. In fact in the last flashback showing the murder his position changes again, turning from a 90 degree angle to be more like 45.

Continuity mistake: During the touch football game, when Natalie first throws the ball to Monk, he catches it and a guy in a blue T-shirt and jeans is running up behind him. Angle switches as Monk twists out of the way, and it's a different guy wearing black shorts instead. A few cuts later and Monk runs past the same guy in black shorts again.

Continuity mistake: In the room with the memoirs, Monk turns around and reaches towards a few slightly misaligned books to take one and read it. In the closeup, it's a neatly stacked shelf.
Mr. Monk and the Missing Granny - S2-E13
Continuity mistake: Monk identifies the kidnappers' house by the pizza box outside by the bin. In the wide shot it's upside down on its corner, with "zza" just visible behind a black bag. In the closeup it's turned around, so we can see more letters, and it's moved.
Mr. Monk and the Paperboy - S2-E10
Continuity mistake: Stottlemeyer says "does that make any sense to you?" as Monk is straightening the pots on the mantelpiece - all the lid handles are horizontal. The camera cuts away for a second, cuts back, and the lid on the far right has suddenly rotated 90°, whereupon Monk straightens it to be horizontal like the others.
Answer: The two men are trying to work out a secret deal between them without involving the union, which means the workers' interests aren't being represented and defeats the whole purpose of a union. The mayor would lose labor's support and Cusack's union troubles would just be starting.
