Mr. Monk and the Big Game - S5-E3

Factual error: All the players have their first names on the back of their jerseys. They should have their last names on the jerseys for better identification considering some of them would probably have the same first name.

Suggested correction: This isn't a mistake just because a school does it a different way than what you expect. Not to mention that some people also have the same last name, so using the last name would create the same "problem." All they would have to do is add a last name initial.

Mr. Monk Goes to Jail - S2-E16

Factual error: When Monk visits the prison for the first time, he is searched, passed, and has a mini-panic attack because people have touched him. Sharona steps forward to comfort him, and she puts her arms around him. This is a very serious breach of procedure and it is not possible for the guards to miss it, because Sharona has not been searched. It's a common technique for trying to pass contraband called 'a touch through' - a person with an item to be smuggled into the prison (drugs, usually), passes them on to a person who has been searched and is therefore 'clean'. Monk would be taken back to the guard's station to be searched again. He would not be allowed leniency because the guards happen to know or to like him - visitor ingress and egress is always done under CCTV and the guard would know he was being watched - quite possibly by someone who doesn't know who Monk and Sharona are.

Suggested correction: Sharona was searched first by the female guard.

In fact Sharona breaks away from the female guard to go to Monk. She has NOT been searched.

The correction is correct. The female guard already finished patting Sharona down before the male guard even had a chance to start his pat down of Monk.

Yeah, the correction is correct. I went back six times through that clip: Sharona and Monk both get searched, and then Sharona touches Monk.

Mr. Monk and the Garbage Strike - S5-E2

Factual error: While Monk and Natalie are waiting for the mayor to exit City Hall with his aide, you can see a cable car turning around the corner behind them. San Francisco City Hall is located on Van Ness Avenue between Grove and McAllister Streets, and this is at least six blocks from the nearest cable car line (which would be the turntable at Powell and Market Streets). (00:20:00 - 00:26:05)

Mr. Monk and the Really, Really Dead Guy - S5-E15

Factual error: The FBI agent runs a computer check and prints out a list of all the pet stores in San Francisco selling ferrets. But he shouldn't have been able to generate any list at all. Pet ferrets are illegal in the state of California, and are not sold in pet stores there. (00:15:00)

Mr. Monk and Little Monk - S4-E8

Factual error: In the flashback where Monk is explaining how the money was stolen, the principal finds the 5 dollar bill he wrote "good luck" on and holds it up for everyone to see. The bill he holds is a 5 dollar bill which was released in 2000, with the enlarged Lincoln. The flashback takes place in 1972.

Mr. Monk Goes to the Asylum - S1-E6

Factual error: The woman who accuses Monk of stealing her necklace shouldn't have the necklace inside the asylum in the first place. For both safety and insurance reasons, patients in mental facilities aren't permitted to keep any potentially harmful jewelry, including pins, broaches, earrings, belts, beads and necklaces.

Mr. Monk Goes to Jail - S2-E16

Factual error: There are a number of unrealistic situations portrayed inside the prison: 1) An inmate scheduled to be executed in less than an hour would not be left so unattended as to require the trustee to yell for help when he went into distress, or to allow the inmate and trustee to exchange objects. 2) A chronic rule-breaker like Spyder, who had just "put a guy's head through a wall," would not have gotten just one day in solitary confinement with no other loss of privileges. 3) The neo-Nazis would not be allowed to wear swastika lapel pins. 4) Death row inmates are not served their last meal by unescorted fellow prisoners.

Mr. Monk Is Underwater - S7-E5

Factual error: Commander Whitaker tries to drown Monk and Natalie by trapping them in the ballast tank of the submarine. The ballast tanks on a submarine are inaccessible from the interior, and wouldn't have dramatic lighting in them either.

Mr. Monk and the Very, Very Old Man - S2-E5

Factual error: When Stottlemeyer backs up the video tape at Monk's house, we can hear the sound chattering backwards. Only a huge industrial (studio) machine would do that. Little home VCRs, like Monk's, mute the sound during in-play rewind and fast forward modes. (00:34:30)

Mr. Monk and Little Monk - S4-E8

Factual error: When Monk is talking to Sherry about the painting in the art gallery where the painted woman was going to kill her husband, he says that she has a bruise on her left eye. But the bruise is actually on her right eye. While it is viewable that it is on Monk's left, he would not make that mistake.

Mr. Monk Gets Cabin Fever - S3-E12

Factual error: Randy calls the cabin and gets a "not in service" message. But he should have heard an unanswered ring instead. The FBI agent tore the cord from the wall, which in the US does not generate a "not in service" recording. That only occurs when the phone company cuts off your service due to non-payment or cancellation. (00:30:00)

Mr. Monk Is Underwater - S7-E5

Factual error: Monk borrows Lt. Albright's sidearm to prove a point. All weapons on a submarine are locked in a small arms locker until needed, not carried around by officers. Further, medics are traditionally not issued firearms.

Mr. Monk Gets Stuck in Traffic - S3-E13

Factual error: Monk inspects the wrecked VW Beetle and notes that "the air conditioning is off." But it's a standard 1973 VW: they didn't come with A/C, and though you could add it, it tended to overstress the little air-cooled engine. Look closely and you can see that this VW does not have the bulky under-dash compressor needed to run an add-on A/C.

Mr. Monk and the Three Pies - S2-E11

Factual error: In this episode, when Sharona and Monk arrive to visit his brother, they talk about the swing set. Monk tells Sharona that his father put up the swing when he was 8 years old but this is a much newer swing set. Look at the curved plastic seats: these have come about in the last six to eight years. It also doesn't look at all rusty like a 40 year old swing would.

Suggested correction: Ambrose is obsessed with leaving the place "exactly the way dad left it for when he comes back." Hoarding old newspapers for him would be a character mistake, but things like keeping the old swingset maintained and up to current safety regulations so everything's perfect "when he returns" would be a thing he'd find to do around the house. His agoraphobia might not be so bad in the yard. Alternately, he could pay someone for yard upkeep, which would include the swingset.

Mr. Monk and the Three Julies - S6-E13

Factual error: Monk deflects the policeman's rifle shot and the bullet hits Stottlemeyer's car. But the gun fires just as Monk pushes it aside, and the car is behind them. There's nothing that could deflect the bullet back toward them, so at that angle, there's no way the shot could have struck the car. (00:35:50)

Mr. Monk Gets Fired - S3-E4

Factual error: As Monk is removing the crumbs off the keyboard, he flicks one crumb away from the backspace key. It gets flicked up and lands near the 0 button on the numeric keypad. Yet when this happens, the screen then says "Do you want to delete files?" as if he hit the delete button.

Mr. Monk and the End - Part I - S8-E15

Continuity mistake: In 3-7 "Employee of the Month", Joe Christie says he was with Monk when he got the news of Trudy's death. He said Monk had been laughing, and that he never heard him laugh again. In this episode Monk and Stottlemeyer get called to the scene of a crime, a women's clinic. In this episode there is a flashback to the exact same location years earlier and to Stottlemeyer getting the phone call about Trudy's death. He and Monk were working a case that day and Joe Christie was not present.

Trivia: The flight attendant Monk drives crazy in 1-13 is played by his real-life wife. She also plays Sheriff Butterfield in "Monk visits a farm"and the crazy cat lady in 8-14.

More trivia for Monk

Answer: Stottlemeyer was already upset after the phone call. He was trying to get "Kevin" (who would have to be a judge, but no further character information is given) to issue a restraining order with no evidence of needing one, except that Adrian Monk said she needs one. Kevin said he would need to "sleep on it." So it's clear they've been trying to provide protection and unable to get the results they need, which seems to be based on no one trusting Monk the way Stottlemeyer does. He's just angry that they failed to protect Linda despite all their work. Although it does feel like a scene was cut, or altered, from the show that shows the futile attempts to protect Linda which built up to his outrage.
