Gently in the Night - S2-E2

Factual error: As Gently drives to the holiday camp at speed, he nearly collides with an MG 1100. Although the MG 1100 was introduced in 1962, this particular one is a two-door model, which wasn't added to the range until 1967, three years after this episode is set.

Grange Hill (1978)

Episode #17.18 - S17-E18

These two boys left Grange Hill at the end of series 10. Justine started in series 11, so she would not have known them.

Two Way Stretch (1960)

Factual error: Lenny says that he has seen the film "danger within" which was released in 1959 but two way stretch was released in 1960 and in this film Lenny has been in prison for the last three years so he couldn't have seen danger within.

Suggested correction: This is too vague an entry, what model and year is the car seen? I certainly couldn't identify it. The scene is seems to be set in the early 60's, so what do you consider a modern car when this is a 1973 film.

Suggested correction: More information and evidence needs to be given to make this mistake valid. Which vehicles are from the 70's in what scenes set in the 60's?

Stardust (1974)

Factual error: A rover 2000 is in the car lot when Mike is buying the van, these cars first went on sale in October 1963 and this scene is set a month later in November a car like this wouldn't be for sale in a down market car lot like this so soon.

Common mistakes

Factual error: When a police officer finds a suspicious powder he or she puts some on his or her tongue and knows straight away what drug it is, in reality the powder would need a lab test to analyse it.

eric 64

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: Not true. Generally they are tasting it to see how pure the drug is. Hard drugs are often diluted with milk sugar, so they make a bigger profit. The higher the sweet taste, the less pure the drug is.

stiiggy

First, law enforcement officers don't ever taste drugs, it's a good way to die if you don't know what you're ingesting. But second, the mistake isn't saying they are tasting drugs to know it's strength or purity. The mistake is explicitly about a cop tasting a drug and positively identifying what it is based on taste, which happens a lot in cop movies. Such as when the cop says "that's cocaine", not "that's half pure cocaine."

Bomber's Moon - S1-E3

Factual error: Two cars in this episode set in 1964 are too new, Robert Stratton's Wolseley 1100 or 1300 is a mark two which didn't start production until 1967, and George Gently's Rover 3 litre is a 1966 mark 3 model fitted with rostyle wheels from the 1967 3.5 litre model.

eric 64

Bomber's Moon - S1-E3

Factual error: John Bacchus is trying to sell his MGB sports car for £100, the car is less than a year old and would be worth much more than that - a new one would be about £850, and it wouldn't have lost 90% of its value in a year.

eric 64

The Lost Child - S5-E3

Factual error: At the seaside the Bedford CF ice cream van is wrong on two counts - the CF was first produced in November 1969 and this van has a J registration dating to 1970-71. This episode was set in 1968.

eric 64

The Lost Child - S5-E3

Factual error: When Gently and Bacchus pull up outside the house while looking for Hazel Joyce, Bacchus crosses the road to the sea front, the front end of a modern Vauxhall can be seen in the side road.
