The Notebook (2004)

Question: What is the name of the song that plays in the ads for this film? It played on the radio quite a bit about four or five years ago, but I don't know the name or who sang it.

Krista

Chosen answer: "Tonight and the Rest of My Life" by Nina Gordon.

Lord of the Flies (1990)

Trivia: Ralph wears his arm in a cast for the first part of the film. This is because Balthazar Getty broke both wrists just a couple weeks before filming began, but director Harry Hook liked him so much in the role that he just wrote the injuries into the part.

Lord of the Flies (1990)

Continuity mistake: After the rock hits Piggy on the head and he dies, from one angle his eyes are closed but from another angle they're open.

Futurama (1999)

Trivia: In the opening you can see Amy, Hermes, Kif, Zoidberg, and Zapp Brannigan go by in the people-mover tubes.

Traffic (2000)

Question: Catherine Zeta Jones' character is the daughter of a Mexican drug lord, but she tells her upper-class friends that she's European. I'm assuming she's trying to pass herself off as Spanish or maybe Portuguese because it seems more exotic and socially acceptable among the upper class than being Mexican. Is this correct?

Krista

Chosen answer: The upper classes in Spanish-speaking countries tend to be more of Spanish ancestry, decendants of the original conquistadores. As such, some consider themselves Spanish, distinct from the lower-class Mestizos.

Swingers (1996)

Trivia: The last scene of the movie, where Trent sees a woman who he thinks is making faces at him when she's really looking at her baby, was taken from an actual event that happened to Vince Vaughn in an airport, only it was with a man (and Vaughn was freaked out by it, not playing along like in the film.).

Swingers (1996)

Visible crew/equipment: When the guys are sitting around the table playing cards and the camera is circling them, C-stands and flags are visible in the background.

The Aviator (2004)

Question: When Hughes is scrubbing his hands so hard that he cuts them, what exactly causes them to be cut? Is it something in the soap, or his fingernails? I wouldn't think, his being a man, that his nails would be long enough to do any damage, at least not to the extent shown.

Krista

Chosen answer: Hughes has obsessive compulsive disorder. He washes his hands so often, and so intensely, that he's literally worn away his skin. This is common with OCD sufferers.

The Simpsons (1989)

Trivia: After Uncle Rico throws the steak at Napoleon when he's riding his bike, Rico sits back down on the porch and you can see him discreetly spit something into his hand and put it down. According to the DVD commentary, this was the bite of steak he was eating, because Jon Gries, who played Uncle Rico, didn't eat red meat. Between shots he spat out all the many bites of steak his character had to eat.

Krista

Continuity mistake: At the end when the sled full of Christmas stuff is on the mountaintop, it starts sliding off the edge. It's going fast enough that it should be long gone by the time the Grinch reaches it, but when he does it's still right near the top of the mountain.

Krista

Continuity mistake: When the Grinch goes into the first house, you can see the Christmas tree in the background and it has a silver star on top. But later when he steals the star, it's gold.

Krista

Other mistake: When the Grinch is cutting Max's antler, the pieces that have fallen on the floor suddenly jump several inches closer to Max.

Krista

Revealing mistake: When the Grinch is cutting Max's antler, the cut lines appear on the prongs before he actually starts to cut.

Krista

Continuity mistake: When the Grinch puts the antler on Max's head it has five prongs. But when Max tips forward, one of the prongs disappears as it's hidden behind his body. The Grinch only cuts off four prongs, but when Max goes upright again, the fifth prong is still gone.

Futurama (1999)

A Tale of Two Santas - S4-E2

Trivia: In the elves' workshop, Leela turns the controls up to the highest speed. This is a reference to a classic episode of I Love Lucy, where Lucy works in a chocolate factory, and the candies come out on the conveyor belt much too fast for her to wrap.

Kill the Alligator and Run - S11-E19

Trivia: On spring break there's a veejay named "Sepulveda" who is replaced when she gets too old by another one named "Cienega." Sepulveda and La Cienega are both the names of major streets in Los Angeles.

Krista

Trivia: Napoleon in the films is shown to have a great time at Waterloo, the water park. Waterloo is the name of the battle in which Napoleon was defeated in 1815.
